Chapter Eleven: He's Looking for Her

Chapter Eleven: He's Looking for Her

Josie was truly at a loss for words.

In an attempt to distract the horde of zombies, she accidentally fell into a small pit. Surrounded by wandering zombies, she dared not transform back into human form.

It could only maintain the shape of a pebble, bouncing around in the pit for two whole hours, almost exhausting its energy before finally jumping out.

Looking up at the setting sun, she became even more anxious; she needed to catch up with Lu Yuyang and the others to replenish their energy.

Although I had ulterior motives for approaching them, I did manage to save their lives.

If they just abandon her like this, she'll find another superhuman who can "recharge" her, and she'll leave immediately, no longer caring about their lives.

The thought that they might abandon me made me feel a little wronged and indignant.

But then I thought, this is the end times, what's the point of talking about humanity?

As soon as you turn the corner, the bouncing stones stop abruptly.

Not far away, Lu Yuyang was running quickly towards them, looking around as he ran.

He seemed somewhat anxious.

Josie's lips unconsciously curled up, and she slowly returned to her human form, standing by the roadside waiting for him.

When Lu Yuyang's gaze finally turned to her, his tightly furrowed brows visibly relaxed.

"It's good that you're alright."

Josie slowly walked towards him, a hint of pleasure in her eyes that she herself didn't realize, and teased him deliberately, "Looking for me? Are you that worried about me?"

She expected to hear a denial, but to her surprise, Lu Yuyang simply hummed in agreement.

His expression visibly relaxed. "Next time, don't run too far. Just lure the zombies away. If something happens, I won't have time to turn back and help you."

The afterglow of the setting sun gilded his tall figure, making his taut jawline stand out even more in the light and shadow.

He wasn't just saying it; he really did come back to find her.

A warm feeling welled up in Josie's heart, and she nodded with a smile, "Okay, I'll listen to you."

As dusk fell, Lu Yuyang glanced around and called out, "Let's hurry back."

Nighttime is extremely unfriendly to humans; human sensory abilities weaken, while those of zombies become stronger.

He turned and led the way, and the two quickened their pace in tacit agreement, neither of them speaking.

As they reached a street corner, Josie suddenly called out to him.

"Wait! I remember there's a small supermarket in this alley that was packed with zombies before. It might not have been searched yet. Should we go check it out?"

Lu Yuyang looked up at the sky, hesitated for only two seconds, and said, "Okay, go and come back quickly."

As the last ray of sunlight disappeared, they found the small supermarket, which was only about 20 square meters.

The slightly ajar door opened with a gentle push, revealing shelves piled high with goods.

"I'll go inside to check," Lu Yuyang said, gesturing for Qiao Xi to wait a moment.

"I'll go find the bag."

Just as Qiao Xi turned around, she heard Lu Yuyang shout urgently, "Watch out!"

A rotting face suddenly appeared in front of her, so close that she could smell the putrid stench.

Just as she was about to transform, a strong arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her into a warm embrace.

Pfft!

The ice spike pierced the zombie's head precisely.

"Are you alright?" Lu Yuyang's voice was tense.

At such a close distance, even a slight delay could have had disastrous consequences.

Josie, still shaken, said, "They didn't touch me."

She just checked the area and there were no zombies. Where did these zombies come from?

The two then realized they were still pressed tightly together, their breaths mingling, their body heat passing through their thin clothes.

Lu Yuyang was the first to let go of her hand. "I'll go inside and take a look."

The ambiguity of that moment vanished.

Whether it was from being frightened or something else, Josie's heart was pounding.

But she quickly calmed down and turned to search behind the counter.

After pulling a stack of plastic bags from the cabinet, he began a shopping spree.

This is just a small supermarket, selling snacks and sundries.

But instant noodles, bread, and drinks are exactly what they need most.

There were eight large bags filled, and Josie looked at the goods piled up in front of her with great satisfaction.

They tried to take everything, but could only manage to take six bags at most.

"Come and get the rest tomorrow," Lu Yuyang decided immediately.

Josie was still reluctant to part with the food, so she stuffed a lot more chocolate and instant noodles into her backpack. Who knows if the alley will still be full of things tomorrow now that there are no more zombies in the alley.

In critical moments, these high-calorie foods can save lives.

Josie only stopped after stuffing her backpack to the brim.

When they left, there were noticeably more zombies on the streets. The two crept close to the walls, not wanting to disturb them.

Fortunately, Lu Yuyang had cleared the route before he came, so the return trip went relatively smoothly.

"arrive."

When he reached the intersection, Lu Yuyang stopped.

Josie simply put down the bag. "Go and get someone to carry it, and give me some ice crystals."

She was too tired and all she wanted to do was wash up and get a good night's sleep.

Lu Yuyang skillfully placed the ice crystals into her folding basin, and Qiao Xi turned around with satisfaction.

Just as he was about to leave, Lu Yuyang called out to him, "Wait, come in with me later, I'll introduce you to everyone."

After spending this time together, he has let his guard down.

If it weren't for Josie, none of them would have made it here alive.

If she's already lost her life, what else matters to her?

unimportant.

Therefore, he had already accepted this companion in his heart.

Josie thought for a moment, then shook her head and refused, "It's fine as it is now, I'm more comfortable."

They can come and go freely without having to deal with complicated interpersonal relationships.

If she wants to leave, she can do so anytime, anywhere.

Lu Yuyang gave her a deep look, then didn't press her further, and took out a piece of bread and handed it to her.

"Okay, it's dangerous outside. Come in as soon as you're done cleaning up."

When Josie finished taking care of her personal hygiene and turned into a piece of paper and floated back to the jewelry store, the college students inside were having a happy meal together.

The joy of escaping death made them temporarily forget their fear.

"I never expected to turn misfortune into a blessing! Fatty, how many good deeds did your family do in your past life?"

"Quickly kowtow to your great-grandmother. She was bitten by a zombie but didn't turn into one of those things, and even awakened superpowers..."

The boy called "Fatty" had actually lost a lot of weight; three months of apocalyptic life was enough for a big fat guy to successfully lose weight.

He raised his arm and waved, looking smug and excited. "Fatty has survived this ordeal, so he's bound to have good fortune. From now on, Fatty will protect you! We'll definitely make it to the safe zone safely."

These past few days have felt like walking a tightrope over a cliff, and everyone has been on the verge of collapse several times.

But now, seeing the fat man awaken his superpowers, a new spark of life finally ignited in their gloomy faces.

"Shh! Keep your voice down, there are zombies roaming outside."

After someone reminded them, everyone quieted down.

Even so, a few zombies still staggered towards this side.

A zombie walked straight towards them, bypassing the other zombies.

A rotting face was pressed against the glass, seemingly trying to peer inside.

Josie's expression changed drastically upon seeing this, her body tensing like a bowstring ready to be released at any moment...
