Chapter Forty-Four: Let's Talk
Josie paused. "No need to wait for him, he has something to do and has left."
Chen Qiurong noticed the change in her emotions, glanced at her face twice, and then did not mention Lu Yuyang's name again.
They quickly arrived at the landslide site, where a large section of the mountain had collapsed.
The group could only wander around in the nearby woods.
After walking for two days and two nights, we finally emerged from the towering mountains.
The road ahead resembled a winding snake, meandering through fields overgrown with weeds on both sides.
Although Chen Qiurong is old, she is still agile and has not been a burden to them.
"This town isn't big. We can take a detour; it would be safer."
Feng Ye raised his hand to stop them from turning onto the side path.
He braced himself against an abandoned vehicle with one hand and landed nimbly on the roof.
A gentle breeze blew by, ruffling the hair on his forehead. Beneath the hair, a pair of deep eyes were fixed on the horde of zombies roaming the town.
Josie looked up at him. "What did you find out?"
"The zombies are all on the outskirts of the town, and the inner areas are mostly empty."
Josie immediately understood what he meant, "Evolved zombies?"
Feng Ye nodded, then quickly jumped off the roof of the car and patted the dirt off his hands.
"It's getting late. Let's find a house nearby to stay for the night and leave tomorrow morning."
The others had no objections.
The town was surrounded by houses, and they found a house that was closed off and had not been damaged by zombies.
At this moment, the setting sun bathed the entire sky in golden light.
Standing on the second-floor balcony and looking down, the scenery is so beautiful it could be a wallpaper.
But the real world is devastated.
The four of them ate instant noodles, and as it got dark, Feng Ye quietly pushed open the door and went out.
But Josh stood at the door first, asking, "Going out?"
Feng Ye didn't hide anything, "Yes, I need the crystal core to evolve zombies."
He guessed that there must be many superhumans in the safe zone, who had the upper hand and might already possess many crystal cores from evolved zombies.
He needs to further enhance his superpowers; he needs enough trump cards.
“I’ll be with you. If there are more than two evolved zombies, having me help you disperse their attacks will give you a better chance of winning.”
Feng Ye paused for a moment, then looked up at her.
The last glimmer of light flickered in his deep eyes, reflecting his clear rejection.
"Trust me, I can help you."
Feng Ye stared intently at her. "Tell me, what made you choose to help me and disregard your own life?"
Josie laughed. "First of all, I can cross the horde of zombies on my own without any danger to my life. Secondly, what if I said I went to the safe zone and needed you to take care of me the whole time?"
Feng Ye's gaze swept across her face before he finally replied, "Okay."
As he spoke, he walked towards the town in his military boots.
Josie followed quickly with a smile.
The safe zone is only safer than the outside world; it is not as orderly as pre-apocalyptic society.
Her superpower is not offensive; without a powerful superpowered individual to back her up, she would quickly be targeted once she entered the safe zone.
They did not enter through the widest road in town.
Feng Ye clearly had excellent survival experience. After leading Qiao Xi over a blocked iron gate, he successfully avoided the hordes of zombies on all the roads.
Gradually, they would occasionally encounter small groups of zombies, but Josh didn't need to lift a finger; Feng Ye would take care of them with lightning speed.
Gradually, they broke through the area where the zombies were concentrated on the outskirts.
The further you go, the more empty it becomes.
The broken shop window, like an empty eye, stared blankly at the intruder. The air was thick with the stench of rotting flesh and dust, nauseatingly foul.
Just then, a sharp sound of something scraping against the ground suddenly came from the quiet city.
Feng Ye made a gesture, and the two of them moved forward close to the wall.
At this moment, the sky was already dark, and the moonlight shone on the ground.
Various items were scattered on the street: red children's shoes, an overturned stroller, and a torn backpack.
In front of these messy piles of things, a zombie wearing a blue dress was pacing back and forth.
The sharp sound was coming from the high heels hanging on her ankles.
Qiao Xi wanted to take another look, but Feng Ye suddenly pulled her back against the wall.
"Shh!"
Evolved zombies are much harder to deal with than ordinary zombies, and besides, they don't yet know what abilities the other zombies possess.
Josie lowered her voice and said, "Why don't I go over and test its abilities for you? That will save some time."
"No need, just stand here. Remember not to be reckless and take care of yourself."
After saying that, before Josie could speak, he had already taken long strides toward the zombie wearing the blue dress.
The zombie clearly sensed the presence of humans. It suddenly looked up and, upon seeing the "food" in front of it, let out an excited "hoho" sound.
Josie watched from behind, sweating bullets.
His eyes were fixed straight ahead, unblinking.
Feng Ye's fingertips were searching for an opportunity when suddenly, the zombie in the blue dress vanished from the spot.
Feng Ye quickly turned around, then turned around twice more, but still couldn't see any trace of the zombies.
At that moment, Josie's eyes widened. "Feng Ye is behind you."
This zombie can not only teleport, but also disappear for a period of time and then reappear.
That's terrifying!
Crack!
A bolt of lightning struck, and the zombie vanished.
Josie pressed her back against the wall, but her gaze remained fixed on Feng Ye's direction.
Suddenly, she felt a chill on her neck, and an intense sense of crisis made her transform swiftly.
As she turned into a stone and landed on the ground, the zombie appeared next to where she had just been, its mouth opening and closing three times in the air as it lunged to bite her.
Then he turned his neck with a "click-clack" sound, seemingly surprised that the "food" he was about to eat had suddenly disappeared.
Smash!
The lightning struck the zombie, and in an instant, it vanished again.
This time, however, her teleportation seemed to be affected by her injuries, and her broken body flickered intermittently.
Smash!
Smash!
Two bolts of lightning struck in quick succession, and the evolved zombie collapsed to the ground with a "thud."
The charred brain shattered on the ground, and a green crystal core appeared in the pile of ashes.
Josie was relieved and immediately transformed back into human form.
This is also thanks to Feng Ye's powerful abilities and quick reflexes.
If this were an ordinary superhuman, they probably wouldn't have even adapted to the zombie's abilities before being bitten to death.
Feng Ye picked up the crystal core from the ground and strode towards Qiao Xi.
"Let's go back."
After thinking for a moment, Josie took out all the remaining crystal cores in her hand and handed them to him.
“You should absorb them all.” She added, “There’s a portion for Lu Yuyang here. You can return it to him later when you have the chance.”
These first-level crystal cores become worthless later on, but they are extremely valuable in the early stages of evolution when you need to save time to upgrade.
You don't want it?
"This is useless to me, you can take it."
He would use a level-one crystal core to do her a favor, allowing her to stay by his side and continuously increase her supernatural power reserves.
It's more cost-effective than buying several crystals.
Just as the two were about to leave, they suddenly heard rustling sounds coming from the surrounding streets...
