Chapter Forty-Nine: How about lying down? More comfortable...
Josie finished the meat in just a few bites.
Turning his head, he saw that Fu Jinxing still had more than half left.
She instinctively spread her arms and stood in front of Fu Jinxing, just like she did when she was a child.
Fu Jinxing stared at the back of Qiao Xi's head, sighed, reached out and grabbed her wrist, pulling her behind him.
The two boys didn't even have a chance to touch Fu Jinxing before two soldiers stepped forward and stopped the two wolf-like boys.
"Let me go! Give me my food!"
Unable to break free, they shouted, "Aren't you soldiers? Shouldn't soldiers prioritize civilians? We pay taxes to support you, where were you when there was a disaster? Now you're eating and drinking well, and you won't even give us a scrap of food?"
After the two boys finished speaking, they found that the soldiers were unmoved. When they saw that some of their comrades had grabbed food, their eyes turned red and they immediately turned back to grab more.
Because of the disturbance caused by these refugees, this place is no longer suitable for rest.
Fu Jinxing's safety was of utmost importance. The officer in charge of the operation immediately said to Fu Jinxing, "Professor Fu, it's not safe here. Please get in the car, and we'll leave as soon as possible."
Fu Jinxing nodded in agreement. Upon hearing this, Qiao Xi immediately called to Feng Ye and Granny Chen, who were not far away, "Feng Ye, Granny, Wenjing, get in the car."
The group quickly climbed into the vehicle, and just as the convoy was about to set off again, the group of refugees suddenly surrounded the military vehicle and refused to give way.
"You are soldiers, you should protect the people! Where are you going? We want you to go with us!" A burly man slapped the hood of the car and shouted at the top of his lungs.
"Yes, officer, there are man-eating monsters everywhere outside. Please take us away... otherwise we won't survive!"
The soldiers were in a dilemma, as they had always put the people first.
However, this mission concerns the future of humanity, and no mistakes can be tolerated.
When the soldiers refused, the more unruly ones started to act aggressively, saying, "If you don't take us with you, then you can't leave either, unless you run over us."
The officer's furrowed brows were so deep they looked like they could trap a fly; he was quickly weighing the pros and cons.
Although they don't have much food left, they will reach the safe zone tomorrow.
To avoid wasting any more time and causing unnecessary trouble, the officer nodded in agreement. "Okay, you can get in the truck in the back. We'll take you to the safe zone while we're at it."
Some refugees were already smiling happily, while others were dissatisfied.
"Why should you sit in the car while we eat dust in the back?"
“That’s right! We’re old, weak, sick, and disabled, while you soldiers are young and strong. Shouldn’t you give way?” a middle-aged woman shrieked in agreement, reaching out to pull the car door open.
The soldiers looked grim, but due to discipline, they couldn't take direct action.
The officer said in a deep voice, "We have agreed to take you with us, but there are limited spaces. Please cooperate and get into the car at the back."
"Bullshit!" an older man retorted, pointing at Josie and the others. "Why are these young people sitting in the front? Make them get off! And those two men, they look strong, make them stand in the back!"
His finger was pointing at Feng Ye and Fu Jinxing.
Feng Ye sneered, not even bothering to lift his eyelids.
Fu Jinxing also remained indifferent. In his world, only Qiao Xi and things related to Qiao Xi could stir his emotions.
In no time, someone reached in through the window and started pulling at Zhao Wenjing's window.
Zhao Wenjing was so frightened that she slapped the ground repeatedly, asking, "What are you doing?"
Upon seeing this, Feng Ye got out of the car, went around to the other side, grabbed the older man by the collar, and threw him aside like a rag bag.
"What are they doing? Are soldiers trying to bully us unarmed civilians?"
Feng Ye was dressed in camouflage, and at first glance, he did indeed look like a soldier.
Josie got out of the car too, and when she heard them turn around and accuse her, she laughed angrily, "What I saw was you guys bullying soldiers. Besides... this world has long lost its order, so what if they bully you?"
"you……"
"Trying to turn the tables on me again?" Josie said with a smile, "Too bad, I'm not a soldier, you can't morally blackmail me."
The refugees were enraged by her rebuttal, and some rushed over to attack her, but Feng Ye had already made the first move.
The man was kicked three meters away and fell heavily to the ground.
Fu Jinxing also blocked Qiao Xi behind him.
“Brother Jinxing, I’m not a child anymore. These people can’t hurt me.”
She had survived three years of hardship in the apocalypse and wasn't afraid of fighting zombies, so how could she be afraid of these starving refugees?
While he was talking to Fu Jinxing, Feng Ye had already kicked several people away.
Josie walked straight up to the man closest to her, looking down at him. "You want to sit in the front?"
Her voice wasn't loud, but it carried a chill.
The man was taken aback, then retorted, "Shouldn't you young people respect the elderly and care for the young? We're old, we should sit in the car!"
"I have respected the elderly, but have you shown love to the young?"
Josie chuckled and squatted down in front of him.
With a flick of his wrist, the dagger shot out with a "whoosh," its cold light flashing as it was pressed directly against the man's throat.
"Okay, you want to sit in the front, right?"
She tilted her head slightly, a chilling smile in her eyes, "I'll take you to the front, how about you lie down? It'll be more comfortable..."
The man felt the cold touch on his neck and couldn't utter a word.
Cold sweat streamed down my forehead.
Josie applied a little force, and the sharp blade of the dagger sliced through the flesh, drawing blood...
The previously noisy refugees fell silent instantly, staring at her in terror.
"Should we sit in the back, or lie down and sit in the front?"
Josie still had a smile on her face, but it sent chills down one's spine.
The apocalypse is a world where the strong prey on the weak. Perhaps because it has only been three months since the apocalypse began, kind people are unable to do anything to those barbaric and vicious people.
But she isn't!
She had long witnessed the ugliness of human nature, and she would have no qualms about killing them all.
"I...we..." the man stammered, his legs trembling.
"We'll sit in the back..."
Some people in the crowd had already started speaking in hushed tones.
Then more and more people made their choice.
Josie could certainly hear their resentment, but so what? If they were unwilling, they could come and take it; if they couldn't win, they could just wait to die!
She put it away, stood up briskly, and coldly swept her gaze over all the refugees. "Get on the bus within one minute. Those who don't will stay here to feed the zombies."
"Let's get on the bus, get on the bus right away!"
After she finished speaking, the refugees all avoided her and scrambled to squeeze onto the truck behind them.
The soldiers secretly breathed a sigh of relief, their eyes filled with gratitude as they looked at Josie.
They are soldiers, and they really can't go too far with ordinary people.
Fu Jinxing looked at Qiao Xi, his eyes filled with an unreadable emotion.
People can't grow up in an instant. What exactly did Xixi go through?
If he finds out who hurt Xixi, he'll make him realize that living is the ultimate pain!
