Chapter Forty-One: Indulgence

Chapter Forty-One: Indulgence

Lightning struck the zombie, causing it to let out a sharp scream. Following the sound, Lu Yuyang quickly fired the ice arrow in his hand.

Everyone heard the sound of zombies coming from the cave, and everyone's heart sank to the bottom.

"Josh, watch out, zombies have gone in."

Qiao Xi gripped the dagger, keeping a watchful eye on her surroundings, while Lu Yuyang and Feng Ye quickly moved inside.

"I've been bitten! Ah! I've been bitten!"

A man cried out in panic.

"Don't panic, and don't let it scatter; give it a chance to get in."

Just as Lu Yuyang finished his reminder, Qiao Xi suddenly smelled a thick, bloody odor coming from the side.

Then Feng Ye's voice rang out, "I'll lure it out. Lu Yuyang, follow me. Qiao Xi, watch out for that injured person."

The blood of superhumans is just as alluring to zombies as catnip is to cats.

So when Feng Ye cut himself and the smell of blood wafted out, Qiao Xi saw a shadow flash by and knew that it was a zombie chasing after Feng Ye.

After Lu Yuyang and Feng Ye lured the evolved zombies out of the cave, Qiao Xi immediately approached the villagers, her voice strained, "Who's injured?"

Soon, from the left front corner, a man's voice, trembling with sobs, came, "I...I've been bitten."

Josie slowly approached him, only to hear the man break down in tears, "I have a wife and children, what am I going to do?"

"I don't want to die, I want to protect them."

Josie gripped the dagger tightly. If the opponent changed tactics, she had to try to kill him with one blow to avoid further casualties.

After sobbing for a long time, he said, "Kill me... so I won't hurt you. In the future... please help me raise my wife and children."

Towards the end, he seemed to have made a decision; the sobbing in his voice disappeared, leaving only a hoarse tone.

"You're still perfectly fine, how are we supposed to take action?"

They all escaped from the same village, and no one wanted to face this situation. But if they didn't take action, everyone might suffer after he mutated.

The man clutched his injured arm and slowly turned his head to look in Josie's direction.

“Josh, they can’t do anything, you come and kill me.”

Josie gripped the dagger and grunted, "Don't rush. If you really transform, I'll definitely take care of you immediately. But you're still fine, so you might have a chance to become a superhuman."

"What did you say? I could become a superhuman?"

"Yes, so don't rush to die, I'll be there to protect you."

Her words made the man feel a little better, and he secretly prayed that he wouldn't mutate.

Very few ordinary people develop superpowers after being bitten; this was just to give him psychological comfort and make his journey less painful.

So, she kept a watchful eye on the situation outside the cave while listening to the changes in the man's voice.

Feng Ye and Lu Yuyang worked together very well, and Qiao Xi heard the sharp cries of the zombies after they were injured.

The only downside is that the fog obscures visibility, making attacks inaccurate and requiring much more effort.

Suddenly, the man bitten by the zombie let out a painful howl.

"Help me..."

His voice no longer sounded like a human's; it sounded like a zombie's throat had been smashed.

He could still speak, but his tone was becoming increasingly strange.

“I…hehe…”

Josie rushed forward and plunged a knife into the head of the mutated man.

She closed her eyes when she ended the other person's life.

This is the end times; life and death are happening every day.

Soon, the sound of men sobbing could be heard from the surrounding area.

Perhaps it was sadness over the departure of their companions, or perhaps it was grief over the hopelessness of the future.

She drew her dagger, took a deep breath, and said, "Village chief, you must hold this line of defense and prevent the zombies from getting in."

The village chief's voice also went hoarse, "Fine, we'll never back down, even if it kills us."

"Um,"

After Josie finished speaking, she took a few steps forward, focusing intently on the situation outside.

Some flashes of lightning could be seen through the fog.

"Lu Yuyang, if I stand here as a target, are you confident you can hit it?"

Feng Ye's voice pierced through the fog and reached Josie's ears.

"I'm not entirely sure, maybe seven or eight out of ten."

“That’s enough.” Feng Ye made a quick decision. “I’ll draw it away, you find an opportunity to attack.”

The zombie that creates the fog barrier is too cunning; it doesn't get too close and is always looking for an opportunity to ambush.

However, Feng Ye and Lu Yuyang had been on the defensive, so they didn't gain much after their abilities were depleted.

Continuing to exhaust themselves in this way will actually be detrimental to them.

The best opportunity to kill it is to use yourself as bait to lure it in.

Fengye remained motionless and ceased its attack.

Lu Yuyang held his breath and focused on everything around him.

Josie, who overheard their plan, also became nervous.

Time seemed to stretch out indefinitely, and no more sounds came from within the fog.

Josie pursed her lips and waited quietly for the result.

Suddenly, the zombie's shrill voice almost pierced her eardrums, followed by the sound of a heavy object falling to the ground.

Suppressing her worry, she quickly asked, "How is it now?"

Soon, Lu Yuyang's voice came from inside the fog, "Don't be afraid, we've already taken care of the zombies."

As soon as he finished speaking, the surrounding fog dissipated at a speed visible to the naked eye.

In the blink of an eye, light streamed in from outside the cave, and Josie could see what was happening outside.

Feng Ye's arms were stained with blood as he bent over, digging for crystal cores.

Everyone breathed a long sigh of relief, and Josie strode out.

When he got close to the two men, Feng Ye wiped the crystal core he had dug out on his body and then tossed it to her.

"Take it."

"What are you going to do with what you got?"

"You said it yourself, since we both got it, and the distribution is uneven, I'll give it to you first, and we'll split it together later."

Josie hesitated for a moment, holding the crystal core, then said, "Okay."

Supported by Zhao Wenjing, Chen Qiurong came out and saw Feng Ye covered in blood. She said with heartache, "Xiao Ye, come in quickly, let me bandage your wounds."

"The injury isn't serious, it's alright."

"Nonsense, this isn't heavy enough, come on."

Under Chen Qiurong's insistence, Feng Ye had no choice but to take long strides into the house.

Just as Josie was about to turn around, she was tightly embraced by a pair of long arms.

Lu Yuyang rested his chin on her head, said nothing, and simply held her tightly.

Josie wanted to push him away, but having just gone through a life-or-death battle, her willpower was at its weakest.

She indulged her desires.

Lu Yuyang's hands tightened incessantly, as if he wanted to embed her into his chest.

When he faced the evolved zombies, he had only one thought: he couldn't retreat. If he and Feng Ye fell, Qiao Xi would also die.

After the zombies were dealt with, his first thought was to hug her.

In such a world, there's nothing they can do but cherish the present.

After a long time, I noticed that someone's emotions were gradually changing.

"Ahem...we should go in now."

Lu Yuyang didn't let go of her; instead, he picked her up and carried her towards the woods next to the cave...
