Chapter Nine Just Kidding
"You mean to lure the horde of zombies away?" Josie winked playfully. "That's right! Now you know that having me as your companion is only good for you, isn't it?"
When Lu Yuyang realized that it was Qiao Xi who had secretly helped them escape danger time and time again, his wariness of her had long since melted away.
Even if she had ulterior motives, she has saved them so many times, and whatever her motives, they should be grateful.
"Thanks."
Josie tilted her head and looked him over, the moonlight casting dappled silver light on her long eyelashes.
Judging from his noticeably relaxed expression, his gratitude towards her was genuine, unlike the guarded attitude he displayed a few days ago.
She winked at him with a smile, "Then you'd better remember this favor."
He extended his index finger and lightly tapped his temple. "I'll write it down here. You can't refuse to help me in the future."
She's determined to get this favor!
She wasn't surprised that Shen Han would become a powerful figure in the apocalypse and could recharge her energy.
The person in front of her who can also recharge her will definitely not be just another face in the crowd. Giving him a good word will always be beneficial in the future.
Otherwise, why would she risk luring zombies?
Offering help when someone is in dire need is far more meaningful than adding to someone's success.
Without hesitation, Lu Yuyang nodded solemnly, "Okay, I will do my best as long as it is within my power."
Josie smiled like a cat that had just stolen some fish, her eyes curving into crescents.
The moonlight streamed in through the window, illuminating her expression clearly.
Lu Yuyang's gaze lingered on her face for a few more seconds without him noticing.
Just then, the sound of zombies roaring suddenly echoed through the quiet city.
Qiao Xi and Lu Yuyang turned around at the same time and walked quickly to the window to look outside.
Under the moonlight, for some unknown reason, hordes of zombies moved along the main road.
"Why are there suddenly so many zombies?"
Qiao Xi leaned out suspiciously, but Lu Yuyang grabbed her arm. "Be careful."
His face was solemn. Before entering the city, he was investigating the situation while struggling with his inner turmoil.
In the end, we decided to go directly through, saving a little over half the time.
They were running low on food, but supplies could be found in the city.
But the further you go in, the more zombies there are.
Even with Josie drawing the zombies away, they gradually found themselves struggling.
Do you know why they're behaving so strangely?
Through their time together, Lu Yuyang realized that Qiao Xi knew more about the apocalypse than they did.
“I don’t know,” Josie said honestly, turning to look at him, “but… humans can evolve, and so can zombies. Humanity’s living space will continue to shrink, so… try to improve your abilities as much as possible.”
"Zombies can evolve?"
The information Josie provided made Lu Yuyang's face tense; ordinary zombies were already shrinking the living space for humans.
If more evolved zombies appear, humanity will not be far from extinction.
"Ordinary humans do find it difficult to survive and can only move to safe zones as soon as possible, but those with superpowers can move freely in the apocalypse by constantly upgrading their abilities."
Lu Yuyang's gaze grew increasingly dark. "Why do you know so much?"
Josie turned her head to meet his gaze. "Because... I've lived one more lifetime than you."
After saying that, she laughed again, "Just kidding. Don't worry about how I know, but believe me, you'll avoid a lot of losses! I'm going to bed now."
He didn't know where Josie was sleeping these past few days because she hadn't shown up.
As she walked out, he stood still and said to her, "It's dangerous outside. Come inside with me. Tomorrow, when everyone wakes up, I'll introduce you to them."
Does this mean they're planning to accept her into the team?
But Josie changed her mind.
"No, I suddenly feel that it's fine to just stay with you guys."
You don't need to interact with other people.
In the apocalypse, the people around you might leave at any time.
If you don't get too close to them, don't befriend them or develop feelings for them, then you won't be sad.
Lu Yuyang remained silent for a long time before finally respecting her choice.
Of course, Josie wouldn't stray far from them; she still needed Lu Yuyang to restore her depleted superpowers.
She turned into an inconspicuous stone and stuck to the side of Lu Yuyang's head.
He didn't notice that his hands were under his head, and he didn't seem to be resting either.
But Josie couldn't keep going; she was exhausted after leading a whole day of zombies.
Slowly, she fell asleep...
Little did they know that the next day they would face a tough battle.
The building where they were hiding was completely surrounded by zombies, and the main entrance was blocked by them.
"Senior, the zombies have blocked the door, we can't get out."
All the students were in a state of great anxiety.
Lu Yuyang also saw the dense shadows reflected in the window.
If the glass breaks, they will rush in like a tide.
Apart from those few superhumans, the rest of them probably have no hope of survival.
Lu Yuyang immediately made a decision: "Go and look around to see if there are any doors or windows we can use to get out."
Just as he finished speaking, the door and window were suddenly bumped.
Then, more and more impact sounds rang out.
"Run!"
As they rushed into the back room, the glass had already cracked slightly.
The place they were staying in appeared to be a teahouse, with many rooms.
The college students were frantically searching for a way out, like headless flies.
"Oh no, oh no, zombies have gotten in!"
Upon hearing the sound, Lu Yuyang's heart sank. He stepped out of the private room and looked outside, and sure enough, he saw several zombies rolling in through the broken window.
They didn't seem to have noticed anyone around. After getting up from the ground, they made "hoarse" sounds and explored their surroundings.
"Keep your voices down, everyone. The window is too small, and not many zombies have come in yet. Let's hurry."
After giving the reminder, Lu Yuyang immediately went to other rooms to look for a way out.
But all the windows were blocked by security bars, so there was no way to get out.
More and more zombies squeezed in through the window, and in the blink of an eye, there were more than a dozen zombies wandering around the room.
The door that was hit felt like it was slamming into their hearts.
"They're coming this way."
"The door is about to break down, are we going to be unable to get out?"
The timid ones had already covered their mouths and started crying.
Some zombies heard the noise and turned to walk this way.
Several brave male students rushed forward and carefully dealt with the approaching zombies.
But before he could catch his breath, the door was slammed open with a loud bang.
Countless zombies poured in through the doorway, instantly filling half the hall.
At that moment, everyone felt despair.
Lu Yuyang was the first to come to his senses, and reminded him in a deep voice, "If you don't want to die, find a way out quickly!"
After saying that, he turned and rushed inside.
Some of the more level-headed people immediately followed in his footsteps.
More and more zombies squeezed into the house, and after they filled the hall, they continued to pour in.
"Damn it, the zombies have come in."
