Chapter Seventy-Six: Collision
"Were you scared?" Shen Han said, patting her back as he spoke.
If he were to be brought under control, it would indeed be quite terrifying.
But Josie wouldn't admit it, "What's there to be afraid of? I've already transformed, she won't be able to find me."
Shen Han chuckled softly, "Hmm, your superpower is quite impressive. In the future, if you encounter an uncertain situation like this, just like today, hide yourself well, and deal with the rest later."
"Let go first." She patted the back of his hand, signaling him to release it.
Beneath his palm was a glimpse of her slender waist, the soft touch making him linger, but he slowly released her.
"I've been out for many days and I was planning to go back to the safe zone today. Now that you've come out, I'll say goodbye to you here."
"Go back now?" Shen Han's brows furrowed suddenly, casting a shadow on his high, straight nose.
"Well, I've been away for many days, it's time to go back."
If we don't go back soon, Grandma Chen and Wenjing will definitely worry.
Moreover, although she had threatened Chen Peng, she hadn't actually been watching him closely, so she still had to go back and check on the situation.
As I turned around, my wrist was suddenly grabbed.
His cold, icy fingertips burned with heat. "Can't you stay?"
His voice was deep, “What’s in the safe zone, I’ll have even more of here.”
Josie didn't break free, but just looked up at him: "It's not like it's goodbye forever."
With a deft flick of her wrist, she slipped from his palm like a fish. "See you next time."
"Josh!"
Josie didn't turn around, she just raised her arm and waved at him.
Her figure had already disappeared into the horde of corpses, her deformed form causing a stir, before she vanished into the gray mist.
Shen Han's hand remained suspended in mid-air, eventually slowly clenching into a fist.
He could use his powers to keep her here, but he didn't want to see Josie resist and refuse to compromise in return.
Suppressing his impulses, he watched her figure slowly disappear into the horde of zombies. Her figure appeared and disappeared intermittently, causing commotion among the zombies, until gradually, she went far away...
Two days of continuous fighting made Josie's control over her superpowers more and more proficient, but unfortunately she only encountered one evolved zombie.
The thought of evolved zombies suddenly brought Lu Yuyang's face to mind. Had he safely returned to the safe zone after their parting that day?
She avoided the areas teeming with corpses and hurried along the dilapidated streets toward the outskirts of the city.
The stench was already familiar to them, until they finally reached the outskirts of the city after cutting down the last few zombies blocking their way.
The moment I turned the corner, a familiar voice hit my eardrums.
"Don't be willful." Lu Yuyang's voice was unusually tired. "The city is too dangerous. I don't have the energy to protect you."
"I'm a superhuman too!" The girl's voice was beautiful, like it was coated in honey. "Brother Yuyang, I can protect myself!"
“This is no joke. Listen to me and go back with them.”
"No, I also want to become strong, so that I can advance and retreat alongside you."
The argument abruptly stopped.
Lu Yuyang suddenly stopped at the corner, his pupils lighting up as he saw Qiao Xi's figure reflected in them.
"Xixi!"
He stepped forward with eyes full of surprise, his arm unconsciously rising as if to embrace her.
But at the last moment, he managed to maintain a tense stance, only his eyes blazing with light, "You're alright...that's great."
There are other superhumans here, and Josie has no other support in the safe zone. He can't let his parents know about Josie's existence.
"Yes, I ran into someone I know," she explained briefly, her gaze sweeping over the face peeking out from behind him.
She was the girl standing next to Lu Yuyang that I saw at the banquet that night.
With porcelain-white skin and deer-like clear eyes, she stood out as strangely clean in this filthy, post-apocalyptic world.
"Brother Yuyang, who is this lady?" The girl affectionately reached out and took Lu Yuyang's arm.
Lu Yuyang moved a few steps to the left.
Su Xueyao is the daughter of his father's friend. They have known each other since childhood, but their relationship is not very close.
It was only after the apocalypse that the two sides grew closer because they needed each other's power.
It was his fault last time. He was so angry when he saw Qiao Xi and Fu Jinxing together that he didn't refuse Su Xueyao's advances.
"Hello!" Su Xueyao was not annoyed at all, and smiled sweetly at Qiao Xi, the small mole at the corner of her eye curving up with her eyebrows.
"Hello,"
Josie nodded to her with a faint smile on her lips. "I won't delay your mission. I'll head back now."
She didn't even glance at Lu Yuyang before walking away, her aloofness like an invisible barrier.
"Josh!"
He reached out to stop her, but Su Xueyao blocked his way, her eyes sparkling as she said, "That lady is so beautiful, more beautiful than any celebrity I've ever seen. Is she the school beauty queen?"
Lu Yuyang stared silently in the direction where Qiao Xi had disappeared, his knuckles clenched so tightly they turned white.
In the end, he said to the others, "You all protect Xueyao and go back. I have something to do, so I'll take my leave first."
After saying that, he ignored Su Xueyao's attempts to stop him and turned to walk into the city.
But he turned a corner a street later and left via another road.
Josie walked along the desolate highway in the sunlight, her beautiful face calm, as if nothing had happened.
Until footsteps came from behind.
“Xixi…”
Josie paused slightly, but continued forward at a steady pace.
Lu Yuyang strode forward and grabbed her wrist. "Xixi, why didn't you wait for me?"
Josie was pulled back; it was no longer possible for her to pretend she couldn't see or hear anything.
"Are you coming back with me too?" she asked, raising an eyebrow and smiling.
Lu Yuyang was slightly taken aback. He thought that what had just happened had caused Qiao Xi to misunderstand and upset her, which was why he had hurriedly chased after her to explain.
But she didn't even ask a single question.
In any case, he needs to explain himself clearly.
"Xixi, that girl was my father's friend's daughter, just like my sister. Don't misunderstand."
"Yes, there's no misunderstanding. Didn't you just come out? Why are you going back now?"
Her complexion showed no signs of distress, which relieved Lu Yuyang slightly.
“I originally went out to look for you. After you were taken away by him that day, I thought you would go back to the safe zone and went to your place, but I found that you didn’t come back. I’ve been looking for you outside for the past two days.”
"Then you see, I'm fine."
As she spoke, she tried to pull her hand back, but after two attempts, she couldn't get it out.
She looked up at him with questioning eyes.
"I'll take you back."
After saying that, he held her hand tightly and walked back.
Josie wanted to say that she already had a boyfriend, but she said it more than once.
Whatever, let him do whatever he wants.
“Xixi, the area you’re staying in isn’t very safe. Why don’t you move somewhere else?” Lu Yuyang suggested.
"No need, the safe zone is already much safer than outside, this is fine."
As they were talking, Josie suddenly saw a man standing by a big tree on the side of the road, his arms crossed over his chest, leaning back against the tree trunk. She didn't know how long he had been watching them.
