Chapter Sixty-Five: Bewitching Him

Chapter Sixty-Five: Bewitching Him

Josie immediately put down the woven bag and looked towards the door.

There were lights flashing inside, and she could vaguely see some shadows.

Suddenly, a dark shadow flashed past the doorway, and the open iron gate was slammed shut.

Josie's heart sank.

Was that an evolved zombie that just flashed by?

Will evolving zombies close doors?

Upon realizing this, Josie felt as if a bucket of ice water had been poured into her heart.

These are probably not newly evolved zombies; they've likely eaten many superhumans and leveled up...

Josie knew that the most sensible thing to do was to leave as soon as possible; she simply couldn't fight against an upgraded, evolved zombie.

But... each step felt incredibly heavy.

There are more than twenty superhumans inside. If this zombie eats them all, even Feng Ye won't be able to deal with it.

If it enters the safe zone, the last spark of humanity will be completely destroyed.

We can't let it grow!

Otherwise, all of humanity, including her, will have nowhere to go safely.

But she's just a useless shapeshifter; besides being a little better at surviving than others, what can she do?

Should we open the door and let them run out on their own?

Josie ran quickly to the door and reached for the handle.

To her surprise, the door wouldn't open!

The bottom of the iron gate was not flush with the ground; there was a gap of about one centimeter.

Perhaps it can be opened from the inside?

She quickly transformed into a piece of paper and floated inside.

Once inside, it was pitch black, and the voices of the superhumans in the safe zone were barely audible.

After adjusting to the darkness and confirming that there were no zombies nearby, she quickly transformed into human form and reached out towards the door.

But the sensation under her hand made her uneasy; the doorknob was completely deformed, as if it had melted into a lump.

Upon discovering she couldn't open it, she quickly transformed into a pebble, rolling across the ground as she searched for traces of the evolved zombie.

Although she might not be able to kill it, she can keep an eye on it and warn it if it tries to kill her.

Just then, Josie saw the evolved zombie with its back to her, slowly approaching two people hiding next to the shelves.

The two were completely unaware of the evolved zombies inside and were still discussing how to retrieve the goods from above.

"Watch out, zombies are behind you."

Because of Josie's sudden outburst, the two superhumans simultaneously launched an attack on the evolved zombie.

Her voice attracted the evolved zombie, distracting it, and the two superhumans successfully escaped.

Hehe...

The evolved zombie roared angrily in the direction of Josie.

After venting its anger, it seemed unable to find a target, so it went to look for new prey.

Josie wouldn't dare attempt to ambush an evolved zombie of this level.

She knew she might end up losing more than she gained by trying to steal something; she only wanted to help these people with superpowers and didn't want to risk her life here.

She diligently followed at the zombie's feet, broadcasting messages like a news broadcaster every now and then: "The zombie is here. Scattered ability users, gather together immediately."

The evolved zombie quickly turned around, opened its mouth to bite, but bit empty air.

After going back and forth a few times, the evolved zombie seemed to realize that the person clinging to her was a superhuman.

hiss hiss hiss...

Countless sharp arrows flew out from its body, hitting the nearby shelves and even Josie's side.

Josie took a deep breath. If she had just turned into a human and launched a sneak attack, she would have been riddled with bullets by now.

The zombie glanced back and then continued walking forward.

Unable to find any superhumans, it seemed somewhat anxious, its steps becoming somewhat unsteady.

Just then, countless ice spikes, water arrows, wooden vines, and stones rained down on the zombies.

"Josh, come quick!"

Lu Yuyang's voice was nearby.

After thinking for a moment, Qiao Xi rolled over to Lu Yuyang's side.

Josie had no idea how much damage their attack had done to the evolved zombies.

Just as she rolled to Lu Yuyang's side and transformed into human form, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.

"Captain Lu, we didn't manage to injure its vital organs; it's hiding."

In such an environment, humans have no advantage; it's the zombies' domain.

"Everyone, hide first, don't scatter."

As Lu Yuyang spoke, he pulled Qiao Xi into a narrow gap behind the shelf.

“Lu Yuyang, you just failed. I’ll follow it so I can report your location and help you fight back.”

"This zombie has been upgraded. Even if you transform, you can't withstand its repeated attacks."

Josie always thought that after she turned into stone, neither superhumans nor zombies could do anything to her.

"You mean, no matter what I transform into, as long as my level is high enough, it can harm me?"

"right."

Lu Yuyang's words strengthened her resolve to upgrade.

The sound of zombie footsteps came from outside the shelf.

Lu Yuyang quickly pulled her into a wooden cabinet nearby.

Lu Yuyang covered Qiao Xi's mouth, and the two of them squeezed together in the narrow space.

He whispered a "shh," signaling her not to move.

Josie's attention was entirely focused outside, and she didn't notice that the two of them were pressed together so tightly that there wasn't a single gap between them.

She heard footsteps slowly approaching... then they dragged their feet away into the distance...

Josie tugged at his arm. "It's gone."

Upon touching her, I felt something sticky. "Are you injured?"

"External injury".

The two could hear each other breathing as they spoke, and at this moment, the oppressive feeling of the evolved zombies outside was gone.

Only then did the two realize that their bodies were squeezed together.

Josie tried to move to the side, but there were things next to her, and no matter how she squeezed, she couldn't create any distance between herself and Lu Yuyang.

The man next to her let out a muffled groan, "Josh, don't move."

Josh sensed something and awkwardly tried to avoid the question, "Shall we go out now?"

"You stay here, I'm going out."

As Lu Yuyang spoke, he reached for the cabinet door.

Josie grabbed his arm. "Wait a minute. Your hand is bleeding. If you go out, you'll be a sitting duck. It will find you soon. Bandage it up before you go out."

She had alcohol-soaked gauze in her backpack.

The two women moved closer together, and Josie struggled to pull out gauze and alcohol from her bag.

In the cramped space, Josie fumbled around to help him, and he didn't back down or refuse.

The surroundings were pitch black, yet the senses were amplified to an extreme degree.

Lu Yuyang could smell the sweet fragrance emanating from her, and her body felt as soft as if it had no bones...

Lu Yuyang closed her eyes, reminding herself that she already had a boyfriend and had nothing to do with her.

But a voice inside him seemed to be tempting him.

"alright."

Josie's voice brought him back to his senses, and his rationality returned quickly.

"Hide here and don't come out."

After saying that, Lu Yuyang pushed open the door and went out, saying, "Wait for me to come back."

“I’ll go with you,” Josie grabbed his clothes and stepped out. “You’ll have a better chance of winning if you bring me along. Besides, if something happens to you, this zombie will level up quickly, and I won’t be safe either.”
