Chapter Sixty-Three: In a Cloud of Black Mist

Chapter Sixty-Three: In a Cloud of Black Mist

Qiao Xi came out carrying a backpack and said to the two people sitting in the living room, "Mother-in-law, Wenjing, I plan to go out for a few days. Try not to go out. If you really have to go out, ask Chen Peng to send someone to protect you."

Zhao Wenjing stood up from the sofa. "Sister Xixi, are you going out? Leaving the safe zone?"

"Yes, zombies are evolving, and I also need to improve my abilities."

"But... Feng Ye isn't here. What if you encounter danger if you go out alone?" Zhao Wenjing anxiously tried to persuade her to stay. "How about we wait for Feng Ye to come back and he can take you with him?"

Josie shook her head. "No need. I'll only be gone for a day or two. I might be back before him."

She went there to improve her own strength. If Feng Ye were there, he would protect her, and she would easily become dependent on him.

She can't rely on anyone but herself.

Once she becomes powerful, she can go anywhere, and all crises will be easily resolved.

Before turning to leave, she emphasized again, "Remember, if you have any problems, go to Chen Peng and let him handle them."

Zhao Wenjing hesitated before asking, "Will he... help us?"

"Yes, don't worry, he will do it as long as you ask."

Chen Peng is a smart man; otherwise, he wouldn't have survived this long.

Therefore, he will definitely have high hopes for Granny Chen and Wenjing.

What happened just two days ago probably means Wenjing won't go out easily.

If we need to go out, it will be much safer with Chen Peng watching over us.

"Okay, Sister Xixi, you must also be careful."

"Okay, I'm leaving."

Qiao Xi opened the door and went out, where she saw Chen Peng downstairs again.

He seemed to have figured it out; when he saw Josie, he put on a fawning smile and dared not stare at her too openly anymore.

"I'm going away for two days. Please keep an eye on my family."

Chen Peng cursed inwardly, but kept agreeing verbally.

Josie didn't say much to him, and walked towards the gate of the safe zone with her bag on her back.

People like Chen Peng, who only act arrogantly within safe limits, will soon be left behind by other superhumans.

This is why Josie dares not slack off.

The powerful superhumans are constantly absorbing crystal cores and continuously improving their combat abilities.

She did not register in the safe zone, so naturally she did not have a team.

She planned to go alone.

Having lived in the apocalypse for several years, she was less afraid of the outside world compared to humans who had only lived there for three or four months.

Entering the safe zone requires a thorough check, but leaving seems to have fewer complicated procedures; you just need to tell the gatekeeper.

The iron gate slowly slid open to both sides, and Josie walked out slowly with her bag on her back.

A large crowd had gathered outside the gate of the safe zone.

A quick count revealed that there were more than twenty.

They all emanated faint energy fluctuations.

With just one glance, Josie knew that they were all people with superpowers.

Without stopping, they continued walking forward.

Soon, she saw the familiar figure standing on the far side.

Lu Yuyang...

As if sensing something, Lu Yuyang turned around and saw her.

His expression seemed unchanged, but his eyes flickered.

Josie recalled what he had said to her in the garden at the banquet in the safe zone last time.

She calmly looked away, with no intention of getting closer to these superhumans.

However, her outstanding appearance has made male superhumans eager to get close to her, even though she doesn't want to.

Are you also a superhuman participating in this mission?

"If so, join our small team, and we'll protect you."

The men tried to be friendly, hoping to get Josie to choose them.

Before Josie could speak, Lu Yuyang said, "Stand in your squads, we'll depart in five minutes."

The men immediately asked her, "Which squad are you from? Should we tell Captain Lu to switch to our group?"

Josie shook her head. "I'm not doing this mission with you guys. Goodbye."

After saying that, under everyone's watchful eyes, she started walking slowly forward.

Lu Yuyang watched her departing figure, his handsome brows furrowing.

Is she about to leave the safe zone?

Despite the agreed-upon five minutes, Lu Yuyang frequently checked his watch and gave the order to depart after only three minutes.

A large group of people with superpowers headed towards the largest city next door.

Their purpose in this trip was to harvest as many crystal cores as possible from the brains of the evolved zombies, and also to bring back supplies from a large supermarket there.

Josie walked at a moderate pace, and after hearing footsteps behind her...

She deliberately turned into a stone at the corner.

Lu Yuyang didn't know why either, even though he had clearly said there would be no future.

But seeing her come out alone with her bag, and thinking about how the zombies outside are constantly evolving...

He unconsciously quickened his pace.

He wanted to catch up with her, but what could he do after he did?

With mixed feelings, Lu Yuyang followed behind Qiao Xi. He clearly saw her turn a corner, but after chasing her for another mile or two, he still couldn't see her again.

He quickly realized what was happening.

Josie used her powers to avoid him.

She remembered what he had said, and she didn't want to have anything to do with him.

Lu Yuyang's steps slowed down, his heart tugged by strange emotions.

It made him feel very depressed and uncomfortable.

The other superhumans looked at each other in bewilderment.

I don't understand why Lu Yuyang was rushing so hard before suddenly slowing down.

After turning into stone, Josie waited for a long time to make sure they were far away before turning back into human form.

She had no destination, but this place was near a safe zone, and the zombies in the vicinity had been completely cleared out by the superhumans who came out to do missions.

They could only follow Lu Yuyang and his group of superhumans to the neighboring big city.

Half a day later, the superhumans entered the city.

Josie trailed far behind, and by the time she entered the city, she had lost all trace of the superhumans.

She slowed down; she didn't intend to go any further for the time being.

With her current reserves of supernatural abilities, she could easily transform into a small object and last for two days.

They had only walked one street forward when they were suddenly discovered by zombies in the alley.

"Hehe..."

Five or six zombies let out excited cries and pounced on her.

Josie remained calm, drew her dagger, dodged one of the zombies, and then swiftly stabbed the second zombie that was biting at her.

As the third zombie approached, Josie quickly drew her dagger and vanished from the spot.

Having lost their target, the zombies wandered around like headless flies, sniffing the surroundings aimlessly.

Just then, Josie reappeared and plunged a dagger into the head of another zombie.

After a few rounds, Josie easily dealt with the several ordinary zombies.

She shook the blood off the dagger and continued walking.

As she walked, she suddenly felt as if something was locking onto her with its gaze.

She turned her head quickly.

His gaze swept over several nearby buildings, and after a while, he found nothing suspicious before turning his attention away.

Not far away, behind the wall of a tall building, amidst a cloud of black mist, stood a tall and handsome man.
