Chapter Thirty-Eight: Don't Move!

Chapter Thirty-Eight: Don't Move!

The thick fog, like solidified milk, soaked the surrounding space in chaos.

Lu Yuyang tensed his back muscles, standing like a wall in front of Qiao Xi.

The icicle he had conjured in his left hand was poised to strike, his eyes warily watching all the movements around him.

Josie gripped her dagger tightly, her breathing slightly labored.

“Lu Yuyang,” Qiao Xi lowered her voice, turning her ears to catch the faintest sound in the mist, “Did you hear anything?”

The surroundings were so quiet it felt like being in a vacuum.

Before Lu Yuyang could respond, he suddenly exerted his strength and pulled Qiao Xi behind him.

The icicle in his hand pierced the thick fog with a soft "hiss".

Josie also used her dagger to slash forcefully in the white mist, trying to drive away anything that was approaching, but she only stirred up a few wisps of mist.

"careful!"

Josie turned her head sharply, but it was too late.

Something darted out from the left. Lu Yuyang had just fired his ice spike when he was caught off guard and stepped forward to shield Qiao Xi behind him.

Josie heard the sound of sharp teeth tearing through flesh, and in anger, she raised the dagger and stabbed down hard.

They quickly retreated upon noticing the thing.

Qiao Xi immediately reached out to touch Lu Yuyang beside her, "How are you?"

She couldn't see clearly, but when her hand reached out and touched the air, the place it touched was wet.

"You are badly injured."

"It's alright."

"That beast is too fast," Lu Yuyang said through gritted teeth, the muscles around his wound twitching unnaturally.

He forced himself to ignore the pain, his sharp gaze sweeping across his surroundings.

A creaking sound came from the mist, like bones rubbing against each other.

The thing was clearly toying with them, enjoying the hunt like a cat playing with mice.

“Josie,” Lu Yuyang suddenly lowered his voice, “you turn into a piece of paper and hide in my collar, to be my back eye.”

In this situation, her rudimentary skills were simply not enough; maintaining her human form wouldn't help, and she might even be a hindrance to him.

"good,"

In the blink of an eye, her body rapidly collapsed into a yellowed sticky note.

Lu Yuyang carefully tucked her into his shirt collar, the piece of paper pressed tightly against his warm skin.

“Try moving forward, make it move,” Josie said, and the paper began to vibrate gently.

A tingling sensation permeated his skin, and Lu Yuyang quickly steadied himself and followed Qiao Xi's instructions to move forward slowly.

Every step was taken with the caution of walking a tightrope.

A shadow suddenly flashed through the thick fog.

Without hesitation, Lu Yuyang raised his hand, and three ice arrows shot out in a triangular formation, piercing into the thick fog.

But at this moment,

The piece of paper at the collar suddenly began to tremble violently.

"Lu Yuyang, behind you."

Lu Yuyang almost instinctively sidestepped, and the ice spike stabbed backward.

"roar!"

With a painful roar, the ice spike seemed to pierce the zombie's body.

"Great, give it a few more."

As Josie's voice rang out, ice arrows were fired in unison, all of them disappearing into the spot where the incident had just occurred.

No sound could be heard from within the fog.

Did you win?

Josie's heart was still pounding, because wounds to a zombie's body wouldn't cause much damage; only a blow to the head could kill it completely.

With such a thick fog barrier, attacks are impossible to land accurately.

"I'm not sure, so I'll keep going and see if it attacks me."

Lu Yuyang covered his bleeding wound and began to gather his supernatural power once more.

But just then, the surrounding fog suddenly lifted.

In the blink of an eye, all the fog dissipated, as if it had never existed.

Josie immediately transformed into human form and looked around.

"That zombie isn't dead!"

Josie felt regret not only for losing a crystal core, but also because its survival meant potential danger.

She pursed her lips and turned her head, immediately seeing Lu Yuyang's arm completely soaked in blood.

His shoulder was bitten so badly that it was a bloody mess, and blood was gushing out all over the ground.

Ignoring the search for any trace of the zombies, she stepped forward to support Lu Yuyang, saying, "Don't move around."

Lu Yuyang hummed in agreement and obediently allowed her to help him sit down.

Josie carefully observed his complexion and found that, apart from being pale, it did not appear bluish.

The heart that's been raised can't settle down.

Superhumans do indeed have some immunity to the zombie virus, and their physical abilities have even evolved to an incredible degree.

In addition to boosting immunity to any virus, it also has an extremely strong ability to heal from external injuries.

But... the one that just bit Lu Yuyang wasn't an ordinary zombie, it was an evolved zombie.

The risks have increased significantly!

Although she didn't say anything, her eyes, filled with worry, said it all.

"Worried about me?"

Josie pursed her lips. "If you hadn't pushed me away just now, I would have been the one bitten."

A smile appeared on Lu Yuyang's pale face. "Time flies by too quickly, there's no time to think. But if I had to think... I would still save you."

Josie's gaze slowly moved from his wound to his face.

“Lu Yuyang, we’ve only known each other for less than a month. To risk your life for a complete stranger isn’t noble; it’s foolish.”

Lu Yuyang didn't seem to care. "Maybe... but I won't change my mind about what I've made up my mind, Josh... how about we make a bet?"

Josie frowned. This person was so badly injured, and they didn't even know if he would get infected or mutated, yet he still had the mood to make a bet.

"You survive first, then I'll gamble with you." She vaguely guessed what he wanted to say.

Just as she was about to move aside, he grabbed her wrist. "But I'm afraid there won't be a future."

His gaze fell on her rosy lips, and before Josie could react, he raised his other, uninjured hand and cupped the back of her head.

His slightly dry lips pressed against hers, haphazardly, yet carrying the excitement and restlessness unique to young people.

Josie originally wanted to push him away, but then she thought of how he had protected her all the way and how he had been injured because of her.

And she was indeed somewhat tempted.

So she raised her hand and began to respond.

Noticing her initiative, Lu Yuyang's lips became noticeably hotter.

Josie gently bit him and whispered against his lips, "Don't move, I'll do it."

Lu Yuyang stopped his offensive and humbly followed her lead.

However, the academic genius lived up to his reputation. Josie's initiative did not last long. The balance of power shifted, and he pressed forward relentlessly, while she retreated, panting.

Later, Josh felt his mouth was a little numb, so he reached out to push him.

Having tasted the sweetness, Lu Yuyang looked at the beautiful girl in his arms and reluctantly released her lips.

His hands, which were wrapped around her slender waist, did not loosen their grip even an inch.

"I feel a little dizzy, let me lean on something."

Josie quickly steadied him and examined his complexion, fearing that he might suddenly mutate.

If she mutates, will she be able to kill the man who was just being affectionate with her with a single blow?

Lu Yuyang tilted his head and leaned on her shoulder, his nose filled with her unique fragrance, but the corners of his mouth slowly curled up.
