Chapter Thirty-Four: Outsiders Are Not Welcome

Chapter Thirty-Four: Outsiders Are Not Welcome

Lu Yuyang's eyebrows relaxed, and a bright smile appeared on his lips, like a ray of sunshine suddenly breaking through a dark, cloudy sky.

"Josh, get back here!"

Qiao Zhian's furious roar echoed through the rugged mountain path, but as they continued to climb, the sound was gradually dispersed by the mountain wind and eventually disappeared.

The steep mountain road left everyone exhausted.

Although Feng Ye and Lu Yuyang carried most of the weight of the supplies, the others were also busy.

After several hours of continuous trekking, everyone was nearing their physical limits, too exhausted to even speak, with only heavy breathing echoing through the silent mountains.

"It's getting dark, we need to find a place to rest." Josie supported her aching back, her voice so weak it sounded like she might stop breathing at any moment.

She looked up and around, and suddenly her eyes lit up.

In the valley ahead, a patch of bright red tomatoes gleamed enticingly in the setting sun.

She couldn't remember the last time she had eaten fresh fruits and vegetables, and her mouth involuntarily watered.

But before she could take a step, Feng Ye grabbed her wrist.

"Don't move, there are survivors here."

Josie then noticed that a ring of wooden stakes was planted around the vegetable garden, with thin ropes wrapped around them and several rusty bells hanging from the ropes. This was clearly a man-made warning device.

Feng Ye stopped in front of the warning line, his sharp eyes scanning the surroundings.

After confirming there were no other traps, they returned and helped Granny Chen walk around the area.

There's no need to clash with the survivors here; they can simply go around them without causing any trouble.

"Go this way."

However, before they could leave, a rustling sound came from the bushes above.

Several men armed with homemade weapons rushed out from the shadows; spears and kitchen knives gleamed coldly in the twilight.

"Get away from here! Outsiders aren't welcome here!"

The burly man at the head of the group had a face full of scars, and his eyes gleamed with a ferocious, beast-like light.

Behind him stood five or six equally burly men, each with a tense body, as if ready to pounce and fight at any moment.

Josie also saw the child and woman peeking out of the cave above.

They expressed their understanding of their hostility, saying, "Don't get agitated, we're just passing by and will be leaving soon."

The men said nothing more, gripping their weapons tightly and watching them leave with hostile eyes.

The spears were almost touching them.

Lu Yuyang took a step without making a sound, shielding Qiao Xi behind him.

The group moved slowly along the edge of the vegetable garden.

Even with their backs to those people, Josie could feel their gazes fixed on them like needles on their backs.

As darkness fell, they needed to find a safe place to spend the night as soon as possible.

The dangers of sleeping outdoors are self-evident; no one knows what might suddenly pounce out in the darkness.

They walked about a hundred meters forward and saw a stone forest.

Fengye nimbly climbed onto a protruding rock and stood on high ground, surveying the surroundings.

A moment later, he jumped down nimbly, his military boots landing with a dull thud.

“We’ll spend the night here.” He pointed to the surrounding rocky area. “It’s open, with no trees to block the view, so we can spot zombies quickly.”

No one objected.

Zhao Wenjing and Qiao Xi helped the exhausted Granny Chen to sit down by the rock.

The old man fell asleep as soon as he touched the ground, without even having a sip of water.

Josie took out cookies and handed them out to everyone.

"Just hang in there a little longer," Josie said, taking small bites of her cookie. "If we get over these two mountains, we should be there in two or three more days."

Then she turned to Lu Yuyang and asked, "By the way, how are your juniors doing?"

Lu Yuyang held the biscuit but didn't eat it: "I told them to go first. There are three superhumans in the team. As long as we avoid the city and the zombie horde, we shouldn't be in too much danger."

"That's good. As long as they don't enter the city, they should be able to find the safe zone by following the road."

As Josie spoke, exhaustion washed over her like a tide, leaving her without even the energy to wash up.

She leaned against the cold rock, intending to close her eyes and rest for a while.

Unexpectedly, the moment I closed my eyes, my consciousness quickly sank into darkness.

In the hazy state, a sharp cry suddenly pierced my eardrums.

Josie woke up with a start and found that it was pitch black all around her.

Feng Ye and Lu Yuyang had already stood up, looking warily toward the source of the sound.

"What happened?" Josie asked, rubbing her sleepy eyes.

Lu Yuyang shook his head: "It's not clear yet."

Just then, a heart-wrenching scream came from the hillside: "Zombies! Zombies! Ah!"

The cries of the woman and child were especially clear in the quiet night.

Feng Ye stood on the edge of the rock wall, the moonlight outlining his tall and straight figure.

Without turning his head, he said to Lu Yuyang, "There are children up there. You stay here, I'll go check on them."

Before he finished speaking, he had already leaped off the more than three-meter-high rock face, his movements as light as a black panther.

Josie climbed to the edge of the rock and looked down.

In the pale moonlight, she saw more than a dozen zombies rushing into the vegetable garden.

The survivors were in chaos; some fought back with weapons, while many more fled in all directions with their children in their arms.

Suddenly, several blinding bolts of lightning cleaved through the night, illuminating the entire vegetable garden as if it were daytime.

In that instant of intense light, the zombie's rotting face looked particularly grotesque.

The survivors discovered Feng Ye as their savior and immediately rushed towards him with the elderly and children.

"Help! Please, please save us!"

Twenty-odd zombies would be a devastating blow to ordinary people, but for Feng Ye, it was just a matter of a few breaths.

Lightning bolts struck continuously, each one hitting a zombie's head with pinpoint accuracy.

*Snap! Snap!*

One after another, rotting corpses fell to the ground, and the survivors' faces showed the joy of surviving a catastrophe.

"Thank you, my savior! You saved my whole family!" The woman's legs went weak, and she knelt down, weeping bitterly, tightly hugging her child.

The man also came over, and when he saw that his family was still there, his eyes also reddened.

They looked at Feng Ye with complicated expressions. "We're sorry, we shouldn't have treated you like that just now. We just thought you were going to take our things. We've offended you!"

Feng Ye didn't want to accept their favor, because zombies had appeared here as soon as they came up.

It's highly likely that the zombies heard their commotion and followed them.

"You're welcome."

After saying that, he turned and left, his black figure quickly disappearing into the night.

The survivors were left looking at each other, but the gratitude in their eyes remained undiminished.

"We were so wrong to treat them like that. Wang Yang's wife, quickly take some tomatoes and cucumbers to them."

"Okay, I'll go right away."

As the woman finished speaking and was about to leave, a shadow rushed over and snatched the basket from her hand.
