Chapter Twenty-Four: Almost Exposed

Chapter Twenty-Four: Almost Exposed

Lu Yuyang's gaze lingered briefly on her face, keenly catching the fleeting look of disgust and annoyance.

Her furrowed brows seemed to indicate that she was trying her best to endure something.

Following her gaze, they quickly spotted the figure approaching them.

Xu Linchuan.

It was him.

"Don't mention me later, I'm going to hide in your pocket for a bit."

Her voice was extremely low, and before the last syllable had even faded, she transformed into a thin piece of paper and silently floated into his pocket.

Lu Yuyang subconsciously raised his hand to press on his pocket, his fingertips touching the cool texture of the paper.

Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps approached the outpatient hall.

"Brother Chuan, look..."

The newcomers were clearly after the hospital's medical supplies. I thought I was going to face a fierce battle, but what I saw instead was a field of zombie corpses and a young man alive in the shadows.

Apart from Xu Linchuan, the others all took a half step back in unison.

A man who can stand calmly amidst a horde of zombies, no matter how handsome, is definitely not a kind soul.

Xu Linchuan's gaze swept over the zombies that had been accurately blown off their heads, finally settling on Lu Yuyang in the shadows.

He narrowed his eyes slightly and said cautiously, "We have no intention of getting into a conflict with you; we just need some medical supplies."

Lu Yuyang did not respond immediately.

He stood silently in the shadows, his slender figure somewhat blurred by the dim light, exuding an aloofness that kept strangers at bay.

One second, two seconds...

Just as the atmosphere was becoming increasingly tense, he finally moved.

His shoes crunched through the sticky blood as he stepped out of the shadows, the zombie corpses crunching beneath his feet with a sickening squeak.

After standing still, his gaze swept coldly over the group, finally landing directly on Xu Linchuan's face.

They just stared at each other without saying a word.

Standing next to Xu Linchuan, Gu Yuan felt a chill run down his spine from Xu's gaze and couldn't help but lower his voice: "Brother Chuan, is he... is he really a person?"

Xu Linchuan did not answer.

He had already observed Lu Yuyang carefully from the very first moment he saw him.

Breathing, pupils, and body movements all prove that this is a living, breathing person.

If they were zombies, they would have pounced on them long ago. How could they just stand there staring at them?

and……

This face looks strangely familiar.

In a flash, the memory suddenly became clear.

He encountered a group of people when he left the city to look for Xixi.

He was the key figure in that group.

As the two sides stood in a standoff, Xu Linchuan frowned, on the verge of losing his temper, when Lu Yuyang finally spoke, "This place was cleared by us. If you want supplies, go to another hospital."

Hearing him speak, Gu Yuan felt relieved.

Having been used to running rampant both before and after the apocalypse, Gu Yuan wasn't afraid of him anymore once he realized he was a person. He raised his head and yelled at him, "The hospital has your name on it? With so many supplies, can you even move them all?"

Whether I can finish moving everything is my business.

The air froze instantly.

Sensing the other party's undisguised hostility, Xu Linchuan also felt displeased.

But the zombie corpses on the ground, each one with a precise headshot, all reminded him that the man before him was no benevolent being.

"Brother Chuan, there are six of us superhumans, and he's the only one. Let's just charge in and take him..."

"Exactly! Why are we afraid of him?"

Amidst the clamor and encouragement from his subordinates, Xu Linchuan had not yet made up his mind when he saw a sharp ice spike suddenly condense in Lu Yuyang's palm.

A crystal-clear icicle hung in mid-air, its tip reflecting a chilling light that made his handsome face appear even more aloof: "Will you leave on your own, or should I ask you to leave?"

Xu Linchuan's pupils contracted slightly.

Having been the leader of the survivor camp for several months, this was the first time someone had dared to threaten him so openly.

A sharp glint flashed in his eyes, and he was about to speak.

Where's Josie?

A deep, cold male voice suddenly came from the shadows in the outpatient hall.

Everyone looked in the direction of the sound and saw a tall man in camouflage striding towards them.

The dull thud of military boots on the ground was particularly clear in the silent hall, and the tall, imposing figure exuded an innate sense of oppression.

He didn't even look at the people at the door, but looked straight at Lu Yuyang.

Josie, who was in her pocket, immediately pursed her lips.

To avoid Xu Linchuan, she didn't even dare to peek outside through the edge of her pocket.

At that moment, Xu Linchuan was struck dumb.

He staggered forward two steps, his voice trembling: "You...who were you just talking about? What did you mean?"

Feng Ye turned around, gave him a cold glance, and then asked Lu Yuyang, "Who is he?"

"I don't know them," Lu Yuyang said calmly. "They're here to steal supplies."

Upon hearing the words "seize supplies," Feng Ye's eyes turned cold.

"If you come in, it's tantamount to declaring war on us. Otherwise, just wait outside."

Xu Linchuan didn't hear what he was saying at all.

The name "Josie" exploded in his mind like a thunderclap, making his eardrums buzz.

Is it his Xixi?

He watched as she fell from the city wall and was torn to pieces by zombies...

But... he didn't see Xixi's remains.

His heart pounded wildly in his chest. He stared intently at Feng Ye, his voice hoarse: "Were you talking about Qiao Xi just now? Xi Xi... she's still alive?"

Josie, who was in the pocket, caught her breath.

She only had time to tell Lu Yuyang, but forgot to remind Feng Ye.

Feng Ye turned around and saw Xu Linchuan's eyes, which were on the verge of breaking.

It contained a near-desperate hope, like a drowning person grasping at the last piece of driftwood.

He suddenly scoffed, "What are you talking about?"

"You were just asking about Qiao Xi!" Xu Linchuan rushed forward uncontrollably. "She's right here, isn't she? In the hospital, isn't she?"

He then tried to barge inside.

"Crack!"

A bolt of eerie blue lightning exploded in front of his toes, instantly scorching the ground black.

He was just a hair's breadth away from being struck by lightning.

Gu Yuan was so startled that he grabbed him: "Brother Chuan! Calm down! It wasn't Qiao Xi, I heard someone asking about 'things'..."

"You're lying to me! He's talking about Josie!"

Gu Yuan couldn't actually tell whether it was "Qiao Xi" or "Dong Xi," but both men in front of him were mutant ability users, and if they really fought, they would definitely not have the upper hand.

He held onto Xu Linchuan tightly, his voice strained: "Brother Chuan, wake up! Qiao Xi has fallen into a horde of zombies, she can't possibly still be alive!"

"Xixi isn't dead!" Xu Linchuan turned around, his eyes filled with terror.

"He's not dead, he's not dead," Gu Yuan quickly echoed.

Xu Linchuan's emotions gradually calmed down, and he turned to look at Feng Ye and Lu Yuyang.

His voice became very sincere, "I was emotional and offended you two just now, I'm sorry! But I really love my girlfriend. We started dating in our freshman year of college, for four whole years. Her name is Josh, and she's very beautiful. If you know where she is, I'll trade anything for her."

Feng Ye's eyes were as still as a deep well, making it impossible to discern any emotion from his deeply contoured face.

Qiao XZ was in Lu Yuyang's pocket when he heard the sudden silence around him.

Her heart was racing. Would Feng Ye tell him?
