A'mo led them to a hidden cave. The entrance was small, and the inside was dark and damp, barely enough to accommodate the few of them.
The rest of the people huddled in a corner, still in shock.
Su Wan sat down against the cold stone wall. She felt a slight twitch in her abdomen and subconsciously reached out to protect it.
The image of Xiao Han's resolute departure flashed through my mind.
She suddenly felt a little ridiculous. She was still worried about those people. They were just characters in the book, with a predetermined fate.
Only she herself was truly alive. Staying alive was the most important thing.
As for Lu Shiyan...what does his life or death have to do with her? Besides, he is the male protagonist, he will not die, and she, the cannon fodder, is in great danger.
She closed her eyes, trying to clear her chaotic thoughts.
After an unknown amount of time, a strange sound was faintly heard from outside the cave.
It wasn't the sound of gunfire, nor was it the sound of human footsteps.
It was some kind of... dragging, sticky friction sound.
There was also a low, suppressed hoarse sound, getting closer and closer.
The guards at the cave entrance were instantly alert; the sound of weapons being loaded was particularly harsh in the narrow space.
"What is that?" someone asked in a trembling voice.
A'mo didn't answer, but just made a defensive gesture.
The next second, a roar suddenly broke out!
Several dark shadows suddenly rushed towards the cave entrance, bringing with them the stench of decay.
Zombies!
How come so many zombies suddenly appeared? !
"Hold on!" A'mo growled, and gunshots suddenly rang out.
The firelight briefly illuminated the cave entrance, reflecting the distorted and terrifying outlines of the zombies and the dense crowds of their kind behind them.
Screams and gunshots mixed together. Someone was dragged out, leaving only a short wail. The survivors in the cave screamed and retreated backwards in chaos.
Su Wan was pushed by the crowded crowd and his back hit the stone wall heavily.
There was a sharp pain in my abdomen.
"Auntie Zhang!" she cried out.
"Miss, don't be afraid, I'm here!" Aunt Zhang's voice was tearful. She grabbed her arm tightly and used her not-so-strong body to protect her.
The men led by A'mo fought desperately, and bullet shells fell on the wet ground with a clang.
"No more bullets!" someone shouted in despair, and the bolt made a hollow clicking sound.
She watched as Amer and his men tried in vain to block with their empty guns or daggers.
These people will die here.
She closed her eyes, moved her wrist slightly, and a few heavy, peculiarly shaped black pistols appeared in her palm.
Weapons in space.
Without hesitation, she put the gun into the hands of the man closest to her and threw one to A'mo.
"Next!" Her voice trembled a little in the confusion.
New gunshots rang out, and the firepower intensified again, temporarily repelling the approaching zombies. But the roars outside the cave never stopped, but became more and more numerous and closer.
The stench was so thick that it seemed to drown people.
They just slightly delayed the time of being devoured.
Su Wan was so anxious that she was about to cry. She wasn't going to die here today, was she? Her abdomen started to ache again. She groaned and pressed her hands even harder.
Lu Shiyan!
That damned male protagonist! Where is he? !
Where is the hero saving the beauty in the script? Why hasn’t your exclusive BGM started playing yet?!
Your son! Your biological son! He's about to turn into a zombie baby!
Su Wan was so anxious that even her stomach started to hurt.
"Miss! Miss, please bear with it!" Aunt Zhang's voice was shaking like a sieve, and she hugged her tightly.
In despair, a more intense burst of gunfire was heard outside the cave entrance, which was crisp and clear, and completely different from the firepower of the guards inside the cave.
Along with the dull sound of falling to the ground, the roar of the zombies quickly weakened.
The tall figure stood in the dim light, his outline clear, and behind him was a fallen, motionless black shadow.
The smell of gunpowder mixed with blood replaced the previous stench.
It’s Lu Shiyan.
There is also Xiao Han who came back.
Su Wan's tense nerves suddenly relaxed, her legs went limp, and she almost collapsed, relying entirely on Zhang Ma to hold her up.
The pain in my abdomen had not yet subsided, but a sour feeling after surviving a disaster suddenly surged into my nasal cavity.
Tears rolled down without warning, hot and turbulent. She held her stomach, her body shaking uncontrollably.
You are here at last.
The two men were smelling of gunpowder and blood, and they quickly cleared out the last few zombies that tried to rush in.
The cave finally became quiet, with only heavy breathing and sobbing from those who survived the disaster.
Lu Shiyan's gaze swept through the cave and finally fell on Su Wan who was protected by Zhang Ma.
He didn't say anything and walked over.
Xiao Han followed behind him and casually rubbed a filthy saber against the wall.
Lu Shiyan approached Su Wan, his eyes fixed on her hands protecting her belly, his expression unreadable. He squatted down, stretched out his hand, but stopped just before touching her.
"Can you go?" His voice was low, suppressing some complex emotions.
Su Wan nodded and tried to stand up, but staggered because of the pain in her abdomen. Lu Shiyan did not hesitate and supported her, his strong arms firmly supporting her shaky body.
"It's not safe here. We must move immediately." As he spoke, his eyes swept over the survivors in the cave and finally landed on Su Wan's pale face.
Su Wan's face turned even paler, and even her lips lost their color. She nodded with difficulty, but when she took a step, she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen again, and she fell forward.
Lu Shiyan made a quick move and picked her up. Su Wan's eyes widened in surprise and she subconsciously wanted to struggle, but he stopped her coldly.
"Don't move. I'm not responsible if you hurt the child."
This sentence made Su Wan calm down instantly. She could feel the tense muscles in Lu Shiyan's arms and the subtle distance he deliberately kept from her.
Xiao Han walked in front to explore the way, and from time to time he looked back at Lu Shiyan holding Su Wan, with complex emotions flashing in his eyes.
"There is an abandoned military base two kilometers ahead, a temporary resettlement site." Xiao Han whispered, "Amo, you take the others and follow closely."
The team moved forward slowly, passing through the winding mountain road. It was already dark, with only the faint moonlight illuminating the rugged road. Lu Shiyan walked in front, holding Su Wan. His breathing was steady and his steps were steady, as if the weight in his arms was insignificant to him.
The interior of the abandoned military base was gloomy, with only the emergency lights casting a bleak glow.
Lu Shiyan laid Su Wan on a dusty camp bed without any extra tenderness in his movements.
He pulled his hand back, keeping some distance.
Aunt Zhang rushed over immediately, her voice trembling: "Miss, how are you? Is your stomach still hurting?"
Su Wan shook her head. She supported herself on the edge of the bed with one hand and unconsciously pressed her other hand on her lower back, where she felt a dull pain.
A'mo was quickly checking the supplies piled in the corner with quick movements.
Xiao Han leaned against the cold metal door frame, his body slowly sliding down. He pressed one hand tightly against his side, a thick dark color seeping out from between his fingers.
Ah Mo's face changed, he dropped what he was holding and rushed over: "Brother Han!"
He supported Xiao Han's shaky body and carefully laid him flat on the ground.
The bloodstained coat was torn open, revealing the hideous wound. The bullet had torn the flesh, and blood was still oozing out.
