Chapter 31: Ambush? It's just a way to death

A slightly older girl tried to get around Xiao Han and reach the half bag of cookies that had not been put away.

Xiao Han moved sideways to block the girl's path. He didn't look at the children, but instead looked back at Wang Jianguo.

"Old Wang, your team management is quite interesting." Xiao Han said slowly, "The younger ones come out to explore the way, and the older ones wait behind to pick up the leftovers?"

This was a very rude remark. Wang Jianguo's face turned pale and he moved his lips, but he was unable to refute immediately. The adults behind him, some lowered their heads, some avoided his gaze, and no one came out to stop the child.

Lu Shiyan's eyes became even colder, sweeping across the children and fixing on Wang Jianguo's embarrassed face. He didn't say anything, and the silent pressure made the air around him heavier.

Su Wan looked at the farce in front of her, and her sympathy was completely replaced by disgust. She quietly leaned towards Lu Shiyan, no longer looking at the children or Wang Jianguo.

Xiao Han kicked the pebbles at his feet and said, "See? This is the trouble with having a family."

"Old Wang, right? To be honest, even if we didn't have this car, we'd hardly be willing to go with you." Xiao Han stood straighter, his shoulders relaxed, his attitude full of disdain.

"I've seen a lot of teams like yours." Xiao Han's voice was not loud enough for Wang Jianguo's people to hear. "They use children as a cover, as bait, and push them out to act pitiful, while they're eyeing something truly valuable behind the scenes."

"Brother, don't say such harsh words." Wang Jianguo laughed dryly, his eyes flickering.

"It sounds bad?" Xiao Han raised his eyebrows. "I'm just telling the truth. There are more than 20 people in your team, but only a few of them are children. I see that these children are thinner than the adults. What does this mean?"

Wang Jianguo's face changed, and he said: "In the end times, it's not easy for anyone..."

"Yeah, it's not easy for anyone." Lu Shiyan suddenly spoke, his voice as cold as ice, "So we have no obligation to care about other people's lives."

He looked directly at Wang Jianguo, his eyes stern. "Take your people and leave. Don't make me say it again."

Several children were frightened by Lu Shiyan's momentum and retreated one after another. The youngest one started crying. Wang Jianguo's fake smile was completely gone, and a sinister look flashed in his eyes.

"Just go, who cares." He snorted and called a few children, "Don't waste time here, come back!"

Su Wan watched all this quietly without intervening. In the end times, everyone has rules and bottom lines. Overflowing compassion often means danger.

Wang Jianguo led the group away. He did not leave immediately, and the group slowly stopped at the edge of the woods not far away. Several adults gathered together, whispering something, and looked over at them from time to time.

Lu Shiyan turned to Su Wan: "Are you okay?"

Su Wan nodded: "It's okay."

Xiao Han put away the dagger and sneered: "Who knows what these people are up to. If I hadn't known what was good for me and dealt with them, I would have been tricked a long time ago."

Lu Shiyan didn't respond, but glanced at Su Wan's stomach. "Let's go after we've rested enough. We can't stay here for long."

Su Wan silently picked up the garbage on the ground and thought to himself: In this world, human hearts are more terrifying than zombies.

They set off quickly and continued to move towards the central base. Su Wan leaned back in the back seat and closed his eyes to rest.

Suddenly, the car braked suddenly and she almost hit the front seat.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

Lu Shiyan's voice was unusually calm: "There is an ambush ahead."

Su Wan looked ahead, her heart suddenly tightening. Not far ahead, there were several cars parked sideways, forming a makeshift roadblock. Behind the roadblock, there were more than a dozen people standing, holding various weapons. The children who had just begged were also in the crowd, with faint red and swollen marks of slaps on their little faces.

"Is it the group of people just now?" Su Wan blurted out.

Xiao Han nodded, a hint of coldness flashed in his eyes: "Sure enough, old fox."

Lu Shiyan's eyes remained calm, but the air pressure around him was terribly low.

"It seems like I've chosen the stupidest path."

Wang Jianguo stood in the middle of the roadblock, the flattery on his face disappeared, replaced by naked greed.

"Don't be surprised, everyone. It's the end of the world and resources are scarce. We can discuss it..."

"Negotiation?" Xiao Han sneered, "To put it bluntly, it's robbery."

Lu Shiyan turned his head to look at Su Wan, his voice was very soft.

"After we get out, you stay in the car. A'mo will protect you in the car. No matter what happens, don't get out of the car."

Su Wan nodded hurriedly like a chick pecking at rice.

Ah Mo warned: "Brother Han, be careful!"

"It's okay, just a small scene." Xiao Han smiled nonchalantly, but his hand remained on the weapon.

Lu Shiyan stared at the roadblock ahead, a cold light flashing in his eyes.

"Are you sure?"

Xiao Han shrugged: "Just these few people? I am enough by myself."

Lu Shiyan nodded and opened the car door.

"Remember, no matter what happens, don't get out of the car."

Su Wan's heart was beating like a drum as she watched the two people walk towards the group of people blocking their way.

"It's okay, they can handle it." Su Wan forced himself to remain calm, staring closely at every move ahead. Wang Jianguo saw that only Lu Shiyan and Xiao Han got off the car, and a hint of pride flashed across his face.

"Just the two of you?"

"It's enough to deal with you." Lu Shiyan's voice was as cold as ice.

"Dude, don't be so hostile." Wang Jianguo smiled sweetly, with naked greed in his eyes. "We just want some supplies. After all, there are a lot of supplies in your car, right? And that beautiful girl..."

Before he finished speaking, a silver-blue electric light jumped on Lu Shiyan's fingertips, and a subtle smell of ionization filled the air.

"You are looking for death." Lu Shiyan's voice was like the abyss.

Wang Jianguo's face changed, and he said stubbornly: "Brother, don't be impulsive. Look at how many people we have here. Even if you are a superpower..."

Xiao Han suddenly laughed: "Old Wang, Old Wang, you really don't know who you have offended."

He pointed at Lu Shiyan: "Do you know who he is? The one who can kill three mutants at once."

Wang Jianguo's face changed, and a hint of hesitation flashed in his eyes, but the large number of people behind him gave him confidence: "Stop scaring people! Even if he is a superpower, he..."

Lu Shiyan didn't wait for him to finish. He swung his right hand violently, and a condensed arc of electricity rushed straight to the ground under Wang Jianguo's feet. With a loud bang, the soil splashed and the smell of burning filled the air. The thunderous explosion made the eardrums of the people around him hurt.

The lightning faded away, and Lu Shiyan's voice was like the judgment of the god of death.

"Three seconds, get out of the way, otherwise..."

Wang Jianguo's face changed completely and cold sweat broke out on his forehead.

"you…"

Lu Shiyan stopped talking and just looked at him coldly, with arcs of electricity crackling in his palms.

"Lao Wang, what should we do?" someone behind him asked in panic.

Wang Jianguo gritted his teeth and finally gave in.

"Okay... okay, let's go. But..."

"No buts." Xiao Han sneered.

"You are no longer in a position to bargain."

Wang Jianguo looked at Lu Shiyan with hatred and told his men to remove the roadblock. When he turned around, he whispered to his confidant beside him.

"Remember the license plate number, this matter is not over yet!"
