Chapter 51 Live Well

"We can't go to the base." Su Wan suddenly said.

A'Mo's voice was a little hoarse due to anxiety: "Why? The captain is in this state now, he must receive professional treatment immediately!"

Xiao Han gasped and held his bleeding arm tightly, squeezing every word out from between his teeth: "We are all injured. Once we return, those bastards at the base will definitely treat us like monsters and throw us into the quarantine area first!"

He gasped, his eyes reddened. "Ten days or half a month of observation is the easiest thing to do! He...he can't afford to waste time!"

"Let's find a place to stay temporarily. I have enough medicine and supplies in my space. Let's stabilize his condition first."

A'mo turned the car, left the main road leading to the base, and turned into a remote country road.

The off-road vehicle bumped along the muddy dirt road, rolled over several long-abandoned farmlands, and finally stopped on the edge of an almost forgotten small village.

"It should be safe here." A'mo got out of the car and looked around vigilantly.

They chose a two-story brick and stone building on the edge of the village.

The first floor seemed to have been converted into a storage room, with rusty farm tools and various sundries scattered all over the floor. It was covered with thick dust, which made a popping sound when stepped on. There were two bedrooms on the second floor. Although they had been covered with dust for a long time, fortunately the structure was still intact and the doors and windows were still there.

Su Wan and Ah Mo worked together to carry Lu Shiyan up to the second floor and placed him on the big bed in one of the bedrooms. He was so heavy that every move was very strenuous.

The wound on his chest was visibly improving, but his high fever was still there and his lips were cracked.

Su Wan took out a clean towel from the space, soaked it with cold water, and applied it to his burning forehead.

This day and night was extremely tormenting for everyone.

Xiao Han and Ah Mo took turns to keep watch, one tending to his own wounds, occasionally letting out suppressed gasps, while the other was alert to the movements outside, any disturbance made them nervous. And Su Wan hardly left Lu Shiyan's bedside.

The sky is getting light and a new day begins in depression.

Su Wan almost did not sleep all night, her eyes were red, she kept an eye on Lu Shiyan's body temperature and breathing, every rise and fall touched her heart.

She touched his forehead gently with her fingertips again, and it seemed... the temperature had dropped a little?

Her nerves, which were stretched to the extreme, finally relaxed a little.

“Hmm…”

Lu Shiyan's eyelashes trembled slightly, a vague groan came from his throat, and he slowly opened his eyes.

Those eyes that used to be deep and sharp, although still a little confused at this moment, finally became a little clearer.

"Water...water..." His voice was so hoarse that every word was unclear.

Su Wan quickly took out clean water and a cup from the space, carefully helped him up a little, and fed him little by little with a small spoon.

The cool liquid moistened his chapped lips.

"How do you feel?"

Lu Shiyan leaned against the head of the bed, his eyes slowly sweeping across the strange room, finally landing on Su Wan's little face with a look of deep fatigue.

"You won't die." He pulled the corners of his lips, trying to reveal a soothing arc, but he didn't have the strength to do it, and it looked more like a bitter smile.

Su Wan quickly took out the porridge she had cooked earlier from the space. "Drink some porridge to replenish your energy."

Lu Shiyan looked at her with complicated eyes and did not move.

"Open your mouth."

He opened his mouth silently and swallowed the warm porridge.

Su Wan fed him spoonful by spoonful, her movements gentle yet skillful.

Lu Shiyan ate half a bowl and shook his head slightly.

"That's enough."

Lu Shiyan's face suddenly flushed abnormally.

His breathing suddenly became rapid and cold sweat broke out on his forehead.

"Head...dizzy..." He uttered these two words with difficulty.

She touched his forehead again, it was terribly hot!

It's burning again! Worse than before!

Lu Shiyan groaned, his body began to tremble slightly uncontrollably, and he soon fell into sleep again.

When Lu Shiyan opened his eyes again, the sky outside the window was dark blue, with a few sparse stars dotted in the night sky.

The high fever has gone away.

Although his body was still weak, his mind was much clearer.

As soon as he moved, Su Wan, who was guarding the bed, almost immediately noticed his movement, quickly came over, and touched his forehead with her cold fingertips.

"The fever is gone."

Su Wan fumbled and lit a dim emergency light on the bedside table.

"Change the medicine for the wound."

As she spoke, her fingertips carefully peeled back the gauze bandaged on his chest.

Her movements were much more skillful than before, but still gentle, for fear of hurting him.

Even so, the slight friction between the gauze and the new skin and flesh still touched Lu Shiyan's nerves. He groaned almost inaudibly, and fine beads of sweat oozed from his forehead.

When the gauze was completely removed, Su Wan gasped.

However, within a day and a night, the edges of the originally hideous corrosive wounds had begun to shrink significantly, and one could even see new tender red flesh, revealing a strange vitality.

This healing speed is simply horrifying!

“It’s a quick recovery.”

Su Wan whispered, her tone filled with mixed emotions that she herself wasn't aware of.

Lu Shiyan's gaze also fell on his chest, and it was impossible to tell whether he was happy or angry.

Su Wan silently applied medicine to him again, changed the gauze, and bandaged it carefully.

Her fingers were a little cold, and occasionally touched his skin, causing him to shudder slightly.

"Lu Shiyan."

After the bandage was completed, Su Wan suddenly spoke, his voice unspeakably calm.

"I want to learn how to shoot and how to fight."

She raised her eyes and looked at him directly with her almond-shaped eyes. Her beautiful face looked particularly resolute in the dim light, even with a hint of cold sarcasm. "I don't want to be a waste anymore, watching you fall down while I can only stand there helplessly like a fool."

"A woman who has never even touched a gun, do you think that force can solve everything? Do you think you still have a chance to become that kind of person?" His eyes moved down to her slightly bulging belly, and his tone was full of disdain: "Don't you know what your current situation is? Do you still want to learn these things? Don't torture yourself to death and implicate others."

Su Wan's lips curled up in an icy arc, an extremely aggressive sneer, "I'm pregnant, I need to live, I need to protect him!" She pointed to her abdomen, "I don't want to put my life, the life of my child, on anyone! You are strong, but look at you now, you may fall down at any time! I will not let my survival, my future, depend on the fragility of any one person!"

She took a step forward, approaching Lu Shiyan's bed, her eyes like a sharp blade tempered with ice: "If you think I'm a burden, then I can take the child away and go find my father."

"He can give me and my children the best protection!" She deliberately mentioned Father Su.

Lu Shiyan's face turned pale, and he clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white from the force. This woman... How dare she be so presumptuous! How dare she insult him like this! But her words, like thorns, pierced into his deepest pride and worry.

Her eyes were so firm and resolute, without the slightest hint of joking.

His Adam's apple rolled slightly unconsciously. What exactly was he thinking at that time? Perhaps only he knew it best...

He took a deep breath, suppressed the anger in his heart, and finally, with a hint of reluctance, anger and helplessness, he compromised: "Okay."

His eyes unconsciously fell on the ugly corrosion mark on the back of her hand that had not yet completely faded. But now, the situation is different.

This woman was actually more courageous and harder to tame than he had imagined. He didn't really want her to die.

He wanted both of them to live well...

Just then, the door was pushed open violently.

Xiao Han and A'Mo rushed in with serious expressions.
