Chapter 56: A Knock on the Door at Midnight

The two men followed Su Wan closely, their eyes quickly scanning the room, touching here, looking there, their faces full of disbelief.

This place is simply heaven for them!

Compared to the doghouse where they had curled up before, this place was clean, spacious, and even had a soft sofa!

"Miss Su... Miss Su," Li Xinhu bent over and pointed at the tall man next to him who was still looking around and had an inexperienced look on his face, with a bit of flattery and fawning in his voice.

"His name is Li Kui, he's a distant relative of mine, he's an honest guy, a little silly, but he can definitely work! If you need any dirty or hard work, just tell him to do it!"

Li Kui grinned naively, revealing a row of white teeth that looked a little yellow due to long-term malnutrition. He rubbed his tattered pants with his two big hands nervously, looking uneasy.

Su Wan said "hmm" without even raising her eyelids, indicating that she understood.

Xiao Han leaned over and glanced downstairs, frowning.

"Master Lu, I feel something is wrong."

"What's wrong?"

Xiao Han lowered his voice, almost whispering, "There are quite a few people down there, shadowy figures, coming and going, but damn, not a single one of them is chatting in a group! They all walk hurriedly with their heads down, as if they were hiding from some plague god! It's so quiet!"

When Li Kui heard this, he straightened his chest and volunteered as if he was going to the battlefield. His voice was loud and clear:

"Mr. Lu! Ms. Su! Otherwise, Brother Li and I won't sleep tonight! We'll take turns keeping watch for you downstairs! We'll know immediately if there's any movement! If anyone dares to mess around, I, Li Kui, will be the first to disagree!"

Lu Shiyan finally opened his bottomless eyes and glanced at him indifferently. His eyes were calm, but carried a majesty that brooked no questioning.

He shook his head slightly, his tone unquestionable:

"No, just save it."

Su Wan took advantage of this opportunity, turned around and went into the bedroom, intending to organize the supplies in her space.

Ever since she dealt with Sister Hong's gang, especially after experiencing that short but extremely dangerous fight, the mysterious energy in her body seemed to have become much more active.

But I have been running around all the time and haven't found a suitable opportunity to investigate carefully.

She sat cross-legged on the bed, closed her eyes, and let her consciousness sink into her body.

The warm energy was much stronger than before, from a small ball that was only enough to cover her abdomen to now covering her entire upper body.

The nights at the Central Base were exceptionally quiet, with only the occasional barking of dogs and shouting of patrolmen.

Su Wan concentrated on feeling the flow of energy in her body, and suddenly, she noticed the fetus in her abdomen moved slightly.

She opened her eyes suddenly and her hands instinctively covered her lower abdomen.

That’s right, the fetus did move just now!

This feeling is strange and strange, like a feather gently brushing against the tip of your heart.

The bedroom door was gently pushed open at this time.

Lu Shiyan stood at the door, the moonlight pouring in from the window, outlining his slender figure.

"What's wrong?" He walked over to the bed and sat down, his voice a little softer than usual.

"The fetus... moved a little." Su Wan said softly, looking up at him.

Lu Shiyan's expression paused slightly, then he stretched out his hand, suspended it in mid-air, and paused for a few seconds.

"Is it okay?" he asked.

This was the first time he took the initiative to touch her belly.

Su Wan nodded, took his hand and gently placed it on her abdomen.

The two were silent, feeling the faint pulse of life in the darkness.

Suddenly, there was a hurried knock on the door.

Lu Shiyan immediately stood up and put one hand on the holster at his waist.

"who?"

A flat male voice sounded outside the door: "Pan Yong sent us here to deliver something to you guys."

Pan Yong.

The name flashed through Lu Shiyan and Xiao Han's minds.

The two exchanged glances, understanding each other tacitly.

As soon as they entered the base, they noticed that the chief guard at the entrance looked like Pan Yong's men.

It seems that the first moment they stepped into the base, their whereabouts were exposed to the hands of "Thunder Tiger"'s confidant.

Li Xinhu and Li Kui suddenly became nervous, their hands and feet became stiff.

They didn't know who Pan Yong was, but judging from his title, he must be some big shot in the base.

Xiao Han opened the door a crack.

Two men in base uniforms were standing at the door, holding several bulging packages in their hands.

The two men had standard smiles on their faces, but their eyes scanned the room quickly and undisguisedly, passing by everyone, and finally lingered on Lu Shiyan for a moment.

"Captain Pan is very pleased that you have returned safely, and he has specially asked us to send some small gifts as a token of our respect." The tall man spoke with a polite tone and handed the package into the door.

As soon as the package was opened, there were fresh vegetables with the fragrance of soil, large pieces of meat with a shiny oily texture, and several boxes of commonly used medicines next to them.

In this end times of food and clothing shortages, these things are of great importance.

"The base has been full of mixed people lately, and it's not peaceful. You guys are new here, so you must be more careful about everything." The short man took over the conversation, speaking slowly, but with hidden meaning in his words, "Some people are not careful about what they do, and they are ruthless. Don't be careless and get yourself into trouble."

The tall man continued, "Captain Pan has always valued people with real abilities. The captain said he would like to take some time to come over tomorrow to meet with you and have a chat. It won't take up too much of your time."

The two men put down their things, turned around and left without staying for long.

The whole process was clean and efficient, with a sense of everything being under control.

The door was closed again and no one spoke in the room for a while.

Xiao Han locked the door with his backhand, and there was a crisp "click".

He sneered and said in a playful tone: "This Pan Yong is really persistent. He has been trying to pull us onto his boat again and again."

Lu Shiyan waved to Su Wan, and the two of them moved closer to the packages and examined them carefully.

The vegetables were fresh, the meat was the right color, and the medicine packaging was unopened.

"Wait," Su Wan suddenly stopped and pulled out a tiny piece of paper from the bottom of a box of cold medicine.

When I unfolded it, there were only a few words on it: "The net has been tied, the tiger is in danger, be careful."

Ah Mo also came over and stared at the words on the note, frowning: "What do you mean? Net? Tiger?"

Lu Shiyan took the note, his fingertips moved slightly, a very thin flash of lightning flashed, and the note immediately turned into ashes and fell to the ground.

"In the base, the forces of Thunder Tiger and Scorpion are secretly competing with each other. Pan Yong is on the side of Thunder Tiger." Lu Shiyan's voice was not loud, but it was resounding. "His move is both a gesture of goodwill and a test."

Xiao Han leaned against the wall, casually tossing a folding knife in his hand: "How come he knows exactly where we are staying? Isn't this too well-informed?"

"The guards at the entrance." Su Wan recalled the scene when they entered the base. "They must have been waiting there from the beginning for us to fall into their trap."

Li Kui lowered his voice and carefully interjected, "I heard that the accommodations in the base are divided into different levels. We were able to live in Area A as soon as we arrived. It's likely that we've been targeted by the higher-ups for a long time."

"Pan Yong has been keeping an eye on us since we entered the base. I suspect that he knows our background, and even...his special ability may allow him to spy on other people's abilities." Lu Shiyan's voice remained steady, but as soon as these words came out, it was like a huge rock hitting the calm water.
