The people behind him also looked at Xiao Yi with longing and expectation. Some weak people even couldn't stand steadily and leaned on their companions. The children clung to the corners of the adults' clothes, their eyes filled with fear and the desire to survive.
The man continued, "We don't want to take your things for nothing. If we encounter any danger along the way, we'll face it together and find a solution. The chances of survival are always greater if we all work together. Is that okay with you?" His voice trembled, as if this was their last hope. Xiao Yi's face faltered after hearing the man's request. His gaze swept over these exhausted people, and he was torn.
On the one hand, he knew that his own supplies were limited, and sharing them would mean that his future survival might face greater challenges. Furthermore, he didn't know what kind of troubles and risks would come with traveling with a group of strangers.
On the other hand, looking at their desperate and helpless eyes, a trace of pity welled up in his heart. In this apocalyptic world, everyone was struggling to survive, and it was not easy for anyone.
Xiao Yi stood there, his brow furrowed, lost in thought. Time seemed to stand still at this moment, with only the rustling sound of the breeze. The survivors looked at him nervously, not daring to breathe, fearing that he would refuse.
Finally, Xiao Yi took a deep breath, as if he had made up his mind. He raised his head, looked at the leading man with a firm gaze, and said slowly: "Okay, let's go together."
Hearing Xiao Yi's answer, the survivors' faces instantly showed ecstatic expressions, and they all expressed their gratitude to Xiao Yi. Xiao Yi just nodded slightly, knowing in his heart that the road ahead would be more difficult, but he was willing to face it with them.
However, when night fell and everyone was resting in a relatively safe place, Xiao Yi was unable to fall asleep because of a vague uneasiness in his heart. He closed his eyes and dozed off. The surroundings were silent, with only the occasional chirping of insects.
At this moment, he heard a very faint voice. Xiao Yi opened his eyes slightly, and in the faint moonlight, he saw the group of people who had pitifully asked for his help during the day gathered in a corner not far away, whispering something.
He quietly turned sideways to hear more clearly. He heard the leading man say, "Wait until he's sound asleep, then we'll take his backpack and all his supplies. That way we can hold out a little longer." The others echoed him, their words filled with greed and determination.
In the shadows of the night, the group sat together and began their conspiracy in hushed voices.
The leading man's eyes flickered with a hint of ruthlessness. He first carefully looked in the direction where Xiao Yi was sleeping. After making sure there was no movement, he spoke softly: "Wait a minute, I count to three, and we will attack together."
The others nodded nervously and eagerly, their eyes filled with desire for supplies.
A thin man said in a trembling voice, "Brother, is this really okay? Will he wake up?"
The leading man glared at him and replied fiercely, "What are you afraid of? Let's move quickly. Even if he wakes up, it won't be too late!"
Then, he began to lay out a specific plan: "You, go around from the left and hold down his arm when he is not paying attention. And you, be responsible for grabbing his backpack." He said, pointing with his finger.
The others listened nervously, not daring to breathe.
"Does everyone understand?" the leading man confirmed again.
Everyone nodded, their expressions nervous and excited.
"Okay, get ready, one, two..." The leading man's voice became increasingly low, as if it was a call from hell.
Just as he was about to shout "three", everyone clenched their fists, their bodies tensed, ready to pounce on Xiao Yi at any time. Xiao Yi stood there angrily, his eyes blazing with anger, staring closely at the group of people in front of him with evil intentions.
His hands trembled slightly with anger, and he spoke in a low and powerful voice, "I really wanted to help you, but I never thought you would do such a thing of ingratitude!"
Facing Xiao Yi's accusation, the group showed a trace of panic on their faces, but soon the man in the lead pretended to be calm, took a step forward, and responded viciously: "In this world, who doesn't think about themselves? Your supplies can make us live longer!"
Xiao Yi snorted coldly and said through gritted teeth: "Do you think you can succeed like this? Even if I risk my life, I won't let you take my things away easily!"
At this moment, some people in the crowd began to murmur guiltily: "Why not, just forget it..." But they were immediately interrupted by the leading man's angry shout: "It's already this late, don't back down!"
Xiao Yi's eyes widened with anger, and he raised his voice and shouted, "If anyone of you dares to take a step forward today, don't blame me for being rude!" His eyes were firm and resolute, as if he was ready to fight at any time.
The group looked at each other, a little hesitant, but at the urging of the man in the lead, they slowly approached Xiao Yi. Xiao Yi retreated step by step, while keeping his eyes on their every move, looking for the best opportunity to counterattack.
The air seemed to freeze, the tense atmosphere making it almost impossible to breathe. A fierce conflict was about to break out. As soon as Xiao Yi opened his eyes, he saw the leading man pounce on him like a wolf. He quickly dodged to the side, and the man missed and almost fell.
Before Xiao Yi could find his footing, another person swung a punch at him. He instinctively raised his arm to block, only to feel a sharp pain. However, he couldn't afford to retreat at this moment. Xiao Yi took advantage of the situation and pushed forward, pushing the person back repeatedly.
