He looked up and around, his eyes filled with anxiety and fear. He knew that if he could not find a safe place as soon as possible and effectively treat and bandage his wound, the infection would spread rapidly and he might lose his life due to sepsis or excessive blood loss.
Moreover, in this dangerous environment, the smell of blood may attract more zombies at any time, and by then, he will be powerless to resist.
Xiao Yi's heartbeat became more rapid, and his breathing became heavier. Various terrible consequences kept emerging in his mind, and his body couldn't help but tremble. But he suppressed the fear in his heart and told himself that he must cheer up and find a safe shelter as soon as possible.
Xiao Yi frowned, biting his lower lip tightly with his teeth. The piercing pain hit his nerves like a tide. Every step he took felt like countless steel needles piercing deep into his left leg, causing him to groan in pain.
But he knew that stopping at this moment would mean death, so he had to move forward. Xiao Yi clenched his fists, veins popped on his forehead, and sweat streamed down his cheeks, dripping onto the dusty ground.
He dragged his injured leg and limped along, his figure looking lonely and resolute on the empty streets. Every time he passed a street, he had to endure the double torture of the dead silence around him and the severe pain in his body.
The wind blew, lifting the dust on the ground and hitting his face, but he didn't bother to wipe it off. He just stared straight ahead, looking for possible hope.
Finally, after crossing countless streets, his eyes caught sight of an abandoned hut. The hut looked dilapidated, with doors and windows tightly closed, and the walls covered with traces of time.
A glimmer of surprise flashed in Xiao Yi's eyes, as if he saw a ray of light in the darkness. He quickened his pace, and although every step brought unbearable pain, his eyes were full of desire for survival, and he approached the hut step by step with difficulty.
Xiao Yi stood at the door of the hut, his body tense, his eyes as sharp as a hawk, scanning the surroundings vigilantly. His gaze moved slowly, not missing any corner, and his ears pricked up, listening carefully to even the slightest sound around him.
The wind whistled in his ears, sending his messy hair flying. He breathed softly and subduedly, fearing even the slightest sound could cause potential danger. Occasionally, strange noises echoed in the distance, making his heart leap into his throat. But upon closer inspection, he realized they weren't the movements of zombies.
After repeated observations to confirm that there were no traces of zombies, Xiao Yi finally lifted his injured leg with difficulty and stepped into the house. With every step he took, he had to endure the severe pain from the wound, and beads of sweat covered his forehead again.
Entering the house, a stale and decayed smell hit him in the face, but he didn't care about that. He turned around quickly and used all his strength to drag a heavy wooden board to the door, pressing it against the door frame, trying to block any possible intrusion.
Then, he limped to the window, and with great effort, he lifted another wooden board and placed it on the window, securing it as best he could with nails and stones. In the process, his wounds were pulled, and the pain made him pause from time to time, but he never gave up. Only when the doors and windows were firmly sealed did he collapse to the ground with a sense of relief, gasping for breath. As soon as Xiao Yi stepped into the house, a strong smell of dust and decay rushed over like a tide, drilling straight into his nostrils. It was a mixture of the musty smell of old wood, the smell of damp earth, and the stench of unknown decaying substances, which was nauseating.
Every time he took a breath, he could feel the tiny dust particles swirling in his throat, irritating his respiratory tract and causing a violent cough. However, Xiao Yi just frowned, suppressing the discomfort, and had no time to care about it.
His mind was completely occupied by the thought of how to survive, and his mind was filled with the urgent matters of treating his wounds and avoiding the zombies. The pungent smell had become insignificant to him at this moment.
Xiao Yi's eyes narrowed slightly because of the unpleasant smell, but his gaze was still determined to search the house for useful items, looking for a corner where he could get temporary safety.
His breathing became rapid and heavy, but it was not because of the unbearable smell, but from the deep desire for survival and the tension of unknown danger. Dust danced in the weak light coming through the window, as if mocking his predicament, but Xiao Yi ignored it and walked deeper into the house with a firm step.
With trembling hands, Xiao Yi slowly took off the worn backpack on his back. His movements were cautious, as if the backpack contained the most precious treasure in the world.
He placed his backpack on the ground in front of him and impatiently unzipped it, his eyes filled with anxiety and anticipation. When he finally pulled out the somewhat crude first aid kit from the depths of his backpack, a wave of mixed emotions surged in his heart.
The surface of this first aid kit has already shown a lot of signs of wear and tear, and there are even some dried blood stains on the corners. Xiao Yi gently opened the first aid kit, and the medicines and tools inside were displayed in front of him one by one.
A few rolls of loose bandages, a small bottle of disinfectant alcohol with little left, a few anti-inflammatory and analgesic tablets, and a small but not very sharp pair of scissors. These things looked so simple and shabby, and seemed so insignificant compared to the serious injuries he was facing.
However, in this desperate moment, Xiao Yi knew clearly that this was his only hope. He stared at these simple items, as if they were the most dazzling treasures in the world. His eyes were filled with determination and a desire to survive, as if as long as he had these things, he would have the strength to fight against pain and death.
