Chapter 668 High Shelter

He leaned against the door, his body tense, his ear pressed against it, listening carefully to the noise outside. The roaring seemed to be getting closer and closer, as if a group of demons were approaching him. He could feel his hands trembling, and cold sweat kept coming out of his forehead and sliding down his cheeks.

The shop was filled with thick dust, and the air was filled with the smell of oldness and decay. Xiao Yi's eyes quickly searched for a place to hide in the darkness, praying in his heart that he could escape this disaster.

Xiao Yi held his breath, slowly approached the gap in the window, and peered out nervously. He saw a group of zombies dragging their stiff steps, slowly and mechanically walking across the street.

The sunlight shone on their rotting skin, highlighting the disgusting black spots and pustules. Some zombies' clothes were already tattered, and the strips of cloth hanging on their bodies swayed weakly with their movements; others were almost naked, revealing their white bones and rotting muscle tissue.

Their eyes were hollow, yet shone with a chilling greed and cruelty. Their mouths were wide open, occasionally emitting low roars, revealing broken teeth stained with dried blood and rotting flesh.

One zombie had half its face rotted away, revealing its cheekbone and jawbone. One of its eyes hung out of its socket, dangling as it moved. Another zombie's arm was only bone, yet it kept waving it around, as if trying to grab something.

Xiao Yi gasped at the horrifying scene. The chill seemed to chill him to the very core, causing his body to instantly stiffen. His heartbeat raced, threatening to burst from his throat. He feared that even the slightest sound would attract the attention of these demons, plunging him into a state of irretrievable doom. Through the narrow crack of the window, he peered out in horror. He saw a group of zombies moving across the street at an eerie, slow pace.

The bodies of the zombies were twisted and deformed, some had incomplete limbs, bones sticking out abruptly from broken flesh; some had rotten faces, revealing white bones and empty eye sockets, but one could still feel their greedy gazes full of desire for the living.

Their clothes were tattered, stained with blood and dirt, and made a creepy friction sound as their bodies moved. Every movement seemed stiff and mechanical, as if controlled by some evil force.

He saw one of the zombies' heads tilted to one side, a deep wound on its neck visible to the bone, and black blood clotted into lumps. Another zombie had a large hole in its abdomen, its intestines dragging on the ground, but it was still moving forward unconsciously.

They let out a deep roar, a sound that seemed to come from the depths of hell, filled with pain and resentment. This horrific scene made his heart tighten instantly, and he couldn't help but gasp, his body involuntarily stepping back, as if he was afraid that the zombies would sense his presence and rush through the window to enter the house.

When the terrifying group of zombies finally slowly left, Xiao Yi's tense nerves relaxed a little, but his eyes were still full of vigilance.

He took a deep breath, carefully pushed open the door of his hiding place, and set out on the road ahead with light steps. With each step, he carefully observed his surroundings, listening carefully to even the slightest sound, and holding the worn weapon tightly in his hand.

Xiao Yi walked along the deserted street, the gravel and debris under his feet making a creaking sound, which seemed particularly abrupt in this deadly environment. He avoided the bloodstains and body parts left by unknown creatures on the ground, silently calculating the distance between himself and his target.

The sun was high in the sky, its scorching rays mercilessly shining down, but it couldn't dispel the gloom in his heart. Sweat continued to drip from his forehead, soaking his clothes, but he didn't bother to wipe it off, just walked forward resolutely.

Finally, after a difficult journey, Xiao Yi saw the slightly raised hill in front of him. He quickened his pace, and his heartbeat also accelerated as he was about to reach his destination.

As he reached the top of the hill, a gentle breeze blew by, bringing a brief sense of coolness. He looked out, and the surrounding scene took in the whole scene. The vast wilderness, abandoned buildings, and the road that loomed in the distance all appeared before him.

Xiao Yi found a relatively flat stone and sat down to rest for a while. He was breathing heavily, his eyes still scanning the surroundings, thinking about the next action plan in his mind, and praying that this relatively safe place could give him a moment of peace and restore some physical strength to deal with more dangers that might arise in the future.

In this desolate world, Xiao Yi shuttled tirelessly, his eyes bloodshot, but still revealing a determined light. He stepped over the overgrown weeds and bypassed the ruins, each step full of hardship.

The sun scorched the earth mercilessly, and the heat wave rolled in, making his throat so dry that it almost smoked. But he did not stop, with only one thought in his mind - to find a place to stay.

After walking for an unknown amount of time, when Xiao Yi was almost in despair, an abandoned high-rise building suddenly appeared in his sight.

The tall building stood alone amidst the ruins, its exterior in tatters. Chunks of cement had fallen off the walls, revealing the rusted steel bars within. Most of the window glass had been shattered, the sharp fragments gleaming coldly in the sunlight.

Xiao Yi's pace quickened unconsciously, a glimmer of hope rising in his heart. He approached the tall building, and the rubble under his feet made a creaking sound.

At the entrance of the building, a heavy iron door was half-open, the paint on the door peeling off, revealing the rotten wood inside. Xiao Yi pushed the iron door open carefully, and a stale and decayed smell hit him in the face.
