"Forget it, it's my bad luck." Xiao Yi frowned, his face full of helplessness and reluctance. He sighed deeply, and the sigh seemed to come from the bottom of his heart, with deep helplessness and compromise.
His gaze fell on the woman again, his eyes filled with mixed emotions. There was worry about the trouble he was about to face, and also a hint of pity for the woman's pitiful situation.
Xiao Yi clenched his fists, as if he was making a final struggle in his heart. His lips trembled slightly, and he muttered a few words of complaint in a low voice, but finally made up his mind.
"I'm asking for trouble," he muttered to himself, his voice filled with regret. But even so, he still took a heavy yet firm step towards the woman.
Xiao Yi raised his head and looked at the sky, as if expressing dissatisfaction with his fate, "Why do I always encounter this kind of thing." However, despite saying this, a resolute light gradually ignited in his eyes, which was the proof that he decided to take on this responsibility.
Xiao Yi slowly squatted down, with a hint of hesitation in his eyes, and gently untied the girl. His movements were a little stiff, and his fingers seemed a little clumsy because of nervousness.
After untying them, Xiao Yi took out some food and water from his backpack and handed them to the girl. The girl's eyes were a little wary at first. She shrank back slightly, her eyes moving back and forth between Xiao Yi and the food, as if trying to determine whether this was a trap.
Xiao Yi saw her concerns and said softly, "Eat it, don't be afraid." But the girl still stared at him closely, her body tense, and did not reach out to take it immediately.
However, extreme hunger and thirst eventually overcame her vigilance. She swallowed unconsciously, her eyes fixed on the food and water.
Finally, the girl reached out her trembling hand and took the food. As soon as her hand touched the food, she devoured it like a starving beast. The food filled her mouth so much that she swallowed it without even chewing.
When she drank water, she gulped it down in big gulps. Some water overflowed from the corners of her mouth and flowed down her chin, but she didn't care at all.
Xiao Yi watched quietly from the side, and a trace of pity could not help but rise in his heart. He sighed softly, and his eyes became much softer.
"Eat slowly, don't choke." Xiao Yi said. His voice was gentle and low, with a hint of subtle concern.
Xiao Yi leaned forward slightly and stretched out a hand, as if he wanted to pat the girl's back, but he hesitated and stopped in mid-air. His eyes were fixed on the girl, full of worry.
Xiao Yi frowned slightly, pursed his lips, and continued: "No one is competing with you. Eating too fast is not good for your health." His tone was gentle, as if he was coaxing a young child.
At this moment, a helpless smile appeared on Xiao Yi's face. In that smile, there was both heartache for the girl's hungry appearance and tolerance for her awkward eating habits.
He stood there quietly, motionless, afraid that any movement of his would disturb the girl who was desperately eating. "Eat slowly, there's more after you finish." Xiao Yi added, his voice sounding particularly clear and warm in the silence.
"Eat slowly, don't choke." Xiao Yi said. His voice was soft and soothing, like a warm spring breeze, gently brushing past the girl's ears.
Xiao Yi's eyes were full of concern. His gaze was focused on the girl's figure wolfing down the food. His brows were slightly furrowed, revealing a bit of worry.
The girl raised her head and glanced at Xiao Yi. There was less hostility in her eyes and more gratitude.
Her eyes were red and swollen from tears and hunger, but the icy hostility within them began to melt away. Her gaze was no longer filled with the initial defensiveness and vigilance, but instead had a softer, more tender expression.
That quick glance seemed to be a bridge that bridged the initial barrier between them. The girl's lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but her mouth was full of food, and she finally nodded slightly in response.
There was a complex light in her eyes, with guilt for her hostility just now, and also sincere gratitude for Xiao Yi's help. That trace of gratitude was like a candlelight in the darkness, although weak, it illuminated her cold and helpless heart at the moment.
After a short rest, Xiao Yi stood up, dusted himself off, turned to look at the girl, and said softly, "Let's go, we have to continue on our journey."
The girl nodded and stood up slowly, her body still trembling slightly. Seeing this, Xiao Yi stretched out his hand to help her, but retracted it the moment he was about to touch her, as if worried that such an action would cause discomfort to the girl.
They walked along the winding path, Xiao Yi in front, his steps steady but not hurried, looking back from time to time to see if the girl was keeping up. The girl followed behind him, her steps a little heavy, but her eyes were always fixed on Xiao Yi's back, as if she was drawing a sense of security from that broad back.
Along the way, the trees on both sides were lush and green, and the breeze rustled the leaves. The sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves and sprinkled on them, forming patches of mottled light and shadow.
Xiao Yi remained silent, concentrating on the road ahead, thinking about what he might encounter next. The girl also did not say anything, but followed quietly, occasionally tripping over a stone and letting out a slight cry of surprise.
After walking for an unknown amount of time, Xiao Yi's forehead was covered with sweat. He raised his hand to wipe it, but did not stop. The girl's breathing became rapid, but she gritted her teeth and tried hard not to fall behind.
