Chapter 693: Base Expansion 2

Xiao Yi's body was stretched to a straight position, his hands clenched into fists, trembling slightly, revealing his inner tension and anxiety. "There can't be even the slightest delay. Every second could mean the life or death of the base!" He emphasized again, his voice rising in pitch, as if to penetrate the walls and reach everyone's heart.

As his order was issued, the atmosphere in the room instantly became tense and busy. The communicator turned quickly and ran out, his footsteps echoing hurriedly in the corridor. He wanted to convey this instruction as quickly as possible.

Xiao Yi took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down. His mind raced, thinking about every detail of the emergency plan, fearing any omissions. "I must ensure that every link is foolproof and I must protect the base and the people!" He vowed silently in his heart.

At this moment, Xiao Yi was like a commander on the battlefield, fearless in the face of danger, decisive and resolute, ready to lead everyone to meet this sudden challenge.

The entire base instantly entered a state of emergency, and people put down their work and devoted themselves to flood control preparations.

Farmers working in the fields immediately stopped their work upon hearing the sirens. They hurriedly wiped the sweat from their brows, not even bothering to pack up their farm tools, but rushed to the warehouse to collect flood relief supplies. Some carried heavy sandbags, others rolled up rolls of tarpaulin, their steps hurried but determined.

Inside the factory, the roar of machinery abruptly ceased. Workers quickly evacuated their posts, their faces devoid of hesitation or fear. Skilled technicians began inspecting and repairing the pumping equipment, ready to respond to any flooding. Strong young men formed teams, carrying boxes of emergency food and medicine to safety.

At the school, teachers quickly assembled the students and methodically evacuated the children to a temporary shelter on higher ground. Although young, the children were well-behaved and sensible, quietly following their teachers' instructions.

In the community, residents came out of their homes and spontaneously formed volunteer teams. Some went door to door, informing residents to take precautions, while others helped carry the elderly and those with limited mobility to safe areas. Housewives prepared clean clothes and basic medical supplies at home in case of emergency.

Market vendors also stopped trading, moved their goods to higher ground, and actively participated in building flood control lines. They worked together, passing sandbags shoulder to shoulder, as if forming an indestructible line of defense.

Throughout the base, from the elderly to the young, everyone worked tirelessly to combat the flood. Everyone held a single belief: defend the base, defend their homeland! Xiao Yi personally directed the effort, organizing the movement of sandbags and reinforcing the levee.

"Come on everyone, we must protect our home!" His voice echoed over the base.

Xiao Yi was wearing a simple work suit, which was already stained with mud and sweat, but he didn't care. He stood on the embankment, his posture as straight as a pine tree, his eyes firm and blazing, full of determination to protect his homeland.

He held a megaphone in his hand and shouted loudly, encouraging everyone. "Come on, people over here, speed up and pass the sandbags over!" As he gave orders, he bent down, picked up a heavy sandbag, and walked steadily towards the weak point of the embankment.

Under his leadership, people formed a long line, and sandbags were quickly passed from one pair of hands to another. Xiao Yi kept moving among the crowd, adjusting the rhythm of the team to ensure that the handling work was efficient and orderly.

"Watch your step and don't slip!" He always cares about everyone's safety, and his voice contains both stern encouragement and warm care.

When someone was exhausted, Xiao Yi immediately stepped forward and took the sandbags from their hands, "You go and have a rest, I'm here!" His words rekindled the fighting spirit of the tired people.

Sweat streamed down his cheeks, but he didn't bother to wipe it off, his eyes fixed on the progress of the embankment reinforcement. "Keep working hard, and we'll be one step closer to success!" His voice was particularly loud amid the clamor of work, inspiring everyone.

Throughout the embankment, people's shouts, footsteps and Xiao Yi's calls intertwined to form a passionate flood-fighting symphony, showing the powerful force of unity and defense of their homes.

However, the flood was more ferocious than expected, breaking through the initial defense line and pouring into the base.

What had originally been a faint roar in the distance suddenly became a deafening roar. The surging flood, like a giant beast out of control, rushed towards them with overwhelming force.

The muddy waves rolled, raising water heads several meters high, mercilessly slamming against the fragile defense line. With a loud "boom", the initially established defense line was instantly torn open, and the flood rushed in like a wild horse.

Inside the base, the water level rose rapidly. The previously peaceful houses were submerged one by one, first the ground floors, then the windows, and finally the roofs. The water rushed into the houses with a swift current, sweeping furniture all over the place and leaving it floating on the surface.

The once smooth road has now become a turbulent river, with turbulent water carrying mud, sand, branches and all kinds of debris. Vehicles have been swept here and there, and some have even been swept away by the torrent and disappeared.

People watched in horror, cries of despair echoing one after another. Children were held tightly in the arms of adults, their eyes filled with fear and helplessness. Elderly people struggled through the water, trying to find a safe place.

The floods ravaged the land, leaving devastation everywhere they went. Fields were submerged, crops destroyed, and the green, once full of promise, was instantly swallowed by the murky waters. Warehouses were not spared either, with stored supplies floating and soaking in the water, resulting in heavy losses.
