His voice was quiet, lost amid the chatter and footsteps of the surrounding people. A few passing companions heard him and casually replied, "Maybe you're imagining it," continuing to chat about their work and daily life. No one took his words seriously. Back home, he shared his feelings with his family: "These past few nights have been much colder than usual. I feel the chill seeping into my bones while working in the fields." His family, busy with their work, smiled and said, "You're just too tired from working. You're just too sensitive." The next day, he brought this up with other workers in the fields, but they just laughed it off, joking that he was too delicate and couldn't handle the chill. After all, the daytime sun was still warm, and life at the base was as busy and fulfilling as ever. No one cared to dwell on the occasional chill. The worker himself began to wonder if he was being overly sensitive and gradually stopped talking about it. However, the subtle chill grew intensified with each passing night, unnoticed.
The monitoring officer watched the ever-decreasing temperature curve with a wave of unease. He sat in the cramped space of the monitoring room, his eyes fixed on the steadily declining temperature curve on the screen. The cold light from the screen reflected on his face, making his already serious expression even more solemn. His fingers tapped the table unconsciously, his eyes following the curve, as if trying to find a pattern or flaw through this focused gaze. With each drop, his heart sank. "How could this happen?" he whispered to himself, his voice filled with confusion and worry. The previously stable temperature readings had now dropped so drastically, completely exceeding his expectations. He recalled his previous knowledge and training, searching his memory for clues that could explain this phenomenon, but his mind was in turmoil. Unease spread like ripples within him. He began to imagine all the possible consequences. If the temperature continued to drop, would the base's energy supply be able to keep up? How would the crops be affected? What difficulties would the residents face? He picked up a pen and began recording the data in his notebook, his hands trembling slightly. The numbers weighed like a heavy stone on his mind. He took a deep breath and tried to calm himself. He knew he had to remain clear-headed and report this situation as soon as possible so the base could take timely action. However, the ever-decreasing temperature curve hung like a shadow over him, haunting him, preventing him from shaking off a growing sense of unease.
He immediately reported the situation to Xiao Yi. He practically trotted down the long corridor, his heart aching. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead, but he didn't bother to wipe them. Arriving at Xiao Yi's office door, he didn't even bother to straighten his disheveled clothes as he knocked hastily. "Come in," Xiao Yi's voice echoed from inside. He pushed the door open and quickly approached Xiao Yi, his steps stumbling slightly in his eagerness. "Chief Xiao Yi, this is bad!" He panted, his voice trembling with nervousness. "The temperature is continuing to drop significantly!" Xiao Yi, previously focused on the documents in his hands, suddenly looked up at his words, his gaze piercing. "Tell me clearly, what's going on?" He struggled to catch his breath and spoke quickly, "The temperature curve has been declining continuously, exceeding the normal fluctuation range, and the downward trend shows no sign of slowing down." As he spoke, he handed Xiao Yi the notebook containing the data, his fingers stiff with nervousness. Xiao Yi took the notebook and carefully examined the data, his expression gradually becoming serious.
"Captain Xiao Yi, the recent temperature drop has been exceeding normal. We may be facing an impending hypothermia crisis." Upon hearing this, Xiao Yi's expression darkened, his eyes revealing a deep sense of worry and determination. Without hesitation, he stood up and declared, "Notify the core members of the base immediately and call an emergency meeting!" With the order in hand, the entire base sprang into action. Staff members rushed around, spreading the news of the emergency meeting. Soon, the core members arrived at the meeting room. Xiao Yi was already seated in the main seat, his expression serious and solemn. His gaze swept over each member, and he spoke gravely, "As you all know, we are facing a potentially extremely severe hypothermia crisis. The temperature is dropping far faster than usual, posing a significant challenge to the survival of our base." The members looked tense, exchanging worried glances. Xiao Yi continued, "We must quickly develop a response plan to ensure the safety of the base's personnel, material reserves, and energy supply. This is a race against time, and we can't slack off in the slightest." He placed his hands on the table and leaned forward slightly, "Now, everyone, share your ideas and suggestions. We must pool our wisdom and work together to overcome this difficulty." The atmosphere in the conference room was tense and depressing. Everyone was aware of the seriousness of the crisis, and they all understood that they shouldered the hopes and future of everyone in the base.
The atmosphere in the meeting room was solemn, as everyone looked at the latest weather data with serious expressions. The core members of the base sat around a rectangular conference table. The dim lighting added to the oppressive atmosphere. Each person had a thick stack of documents in front of them, the top page with the latest weather data standing out. They stared at the figures and charts, their eyes focused and heavy. Some had their brows furrowed, forming deep wrinkles; others had their lips pressed together, their corners slightly downturned; and still others shook their heads unconsciously, sighing softly. An older member picked up the documents, donned his reading glasses, and leaned in to examine them carefully. His fingers moved slowly across the paper, mumbling to himself, as if he were repeatedly confirming the alarming data. Another young and capable member folded his arms over his chest, staring intently at the weather information scrolling across the screen, his face so gloomy that it seemed as if water could drip out. Xiao Yi, sitting in the middle, folded his hands on the table, his gaze sweeping across everyone's faces. He could clearly sense the heaviness and anxiety in everyone's hearts. At this moment, the conference room was so quiet that only the occasional shuffling of papers and heavy breathing could be heard. The ever-decreasing temperature readings weighed on everyone's hearts like huge rocks, making them feel extremely heavy and uneasy.
