Chapter 715: Coveting the Power of the Base 3

Amidst the bustling construction frenzy at Xiao Yi's base, an unfamiliar team suddenly arrived. It was a bright, sunny day, and the base was busily and methodically engaged in various construction tasks. The roar of machinery and the shouts of people blended into a vibrant melody of construction. Suddenly, the distant roar of car engines shattered the harmony. Everyone paused their work and looked in the direction of the sound. Several black SUVs raced towards the base, stopping abruptly at the entrance, kicking up a cloud of dust. The doors opened, and a group of men in uniform black uniforms emerged. They were all tall, with serious expressions, their eyes shimmering with an elusive mystery. Leading the group was a man with short hair and a stern face. His gaze, sharp as an eagle's, scanned every corner of the base. The others behind him also wore aloof expressions, standing in a neat row, creating an invisible sense of oppression. The guards at Xiao Yi's base quickly gathered around, eyeing the uninvited guests warily. "Who are you? What are you doing here?" the captain's voice boomed, his tone filled with caution. The leading man took a step forward, raised his chin slightly, and said coldly, "We're just passing through. We heard about the prosperity here, so we came to see it." His voice was low and magnetic, but it lacked any friendliness. The people in the base began to whisper and discuss. "They don't look like they're just passing through." "Who knows what their real purpose is?" Xiao Yi hurried over, his face filled with confusion and caution. "Friends, since you're here, you're guests. But please state your true purpose." Xiao Yi's gaze was firm, staring directly at the leader. However, the group of strangers remained silent, simply standing there, and the atmosphere grew increasingly tense and eerie.

They came from another base, their expressions filled with anxiety and anticipation. This group of strangers stood at the entrance of Xiao Yi's base, the sunlight streaming down upon them unable to dispel the anxious look between their brows. The man in the lead had a furrowed brow, his eyes no longer merely cold, but filled with a more urgent desire. His lips trembled slightly, as if he wanted to say something immediately, but was trying hard to restrain himself. Behind him, the expressions of the others were identical. A tall, muscular man rubbed his hands together, his eyes flickering around, as if searching for a reassuring answer. A younger member bit his lower lip tightly, beads of sweat forming on his forehead, revealing his inner tension and anticipation. A female member, her once delicate features now looked haggard. Her eyes were filled with anticipation, and her hands unconsciously clenched the corners of her clothes, her knuckles turning white from the strain. There was another old man, his face marked by the passage of time, but at this moment, his eyes gleamed with an eager glint, a glint that seemed to carry the hope and future of their base. Their breathing was slightly rapid, their chests rising and falling with each breath. Every subtle expression and movement revealed their inner urgency, as if they were shouldering an incomparably important mission, and the Xiao Yi base was their last hope.

"Captain Xiao Yi, we've heard your base has mutant vegetable seeds and hope to purchase some," the leading envoy stated bluntly. He took a step forward, his gaze fixed on Xiao Yi, a look filled with sincerity and eagerness. His voice, steady but with a slight tremor at the end, betrayed his inner nervousness. "Captain Xiao Yi, we're truly at our wit's end," the envoy continued, taking a deep breath. "Our base has always relied on traditional farming methods, but the soil is becoming increasingly barren, and our harvests are declining. We've recently been hit by a pest and disease outbreak, and our food reserves have dwindled dramatically. When we heard your base possessed mutant vegetable seeds, it was like a ray of hope in the darkness." He paused, licked his dry lips, and continued, "These mutant vegetable seeds are a lifeline to us. We're willing to exchange our base's precious resources for them, if only you would agree to sell us some." The envoy's hands unconsciously clenched into fists, and he leaned forward slightly, as if awaiting Xiao Yi's judgment. Xiao Yi listened quietly, and every word of the messenger hit his heart like a heavy hammer. He looked at the messenger's expectant eyes, and a hint of hesitation could not help but arise in his heart.

Xiao Yi frowned slightly, lost in thought. The mutant vegetable seeds were a valuable resource for the base, and selling them lightly could have unforeseen consequences. He stood there, his gaze deep and solemn. The surrounding bustle seemed to fade away at that moment, leaving only the churning of his thoughts. Xiao Yi's fingers unconsciously tapped the railing beside him, a rhythmic "thump, thump." He carefully weighed the pros and cons in his mind. Selling these seeds might gain some resources in the short term and strengthen ties with other bases, but what about the future? His own base's planting advantage might be weakened. What if the other base, relying on these seeds, grew stronger than his own? What would happen then? Xiao Yi thought of the people at the base, their hard work and their hope for the future. These seeds were the fruit of everyone's collective efforts, the key to the base's sustainable development. A wrong decision could render everyone's efforts in vain, plunging the base into trouble. He thought again of the anxious eyes and sincere words of the envoy from the other base. They were clearly in dire straits. Would it be unwise to refuse their help? In this challenging world, supporting each other might be the key to survival. Xiao Yi's brow furrowed even deeper, the wrinkles on his forehead as deep as ravines. He paced back and forth, the ground beneath his feet a battlefield of inner conflict. As time passed, Xiao Yi's heart was still grappling with a fierce struggle, unable to make a final decision.
