Chapter 72 Modern Base

After everyone exchanged greetings for a while, they finally got down to business.

The First Base, led by Huang Xiongwei and Cheng Meng, was the first to arrive at the designated location, and according to current data, their losses were minimal. After entering the base, the entire military and political system may undergo a major integration, but the final outcome remains unknown.

With Ye Ming leading the way, the rest of the journey was faster. After passing a towering mountain that reached the sky, a base standing in mid-air appeared before people's eyes.

This was completely different from all previous imaginations. Previous bases had always relied on natural structures, such as those inside mountains or underground. But this base seemed to be suspended in mid-air. A closer look revealed that it was connected to the surrounding mountain by three exceptionally tall metal pillars, seemingly towering over the peaks, yet seemingly detached from the world.

It’s hard to imagine that this is something that human civilization can create at present.

Everything was so dazzling that even Xiao Yi, who always prided himself on being worldly-wise, was amazed.

The large group drove in, and different vehicles entered different passages. The passages were like a huge sightseeing elevator, carrying all the things up and down to all floors and places.

From the outside, the entire base resembles a massive, metallic, oval sphere. But once inside, it's revealed not only is it clad in a layer of silver metal, but the interior is also made of a transparent shell of some unknown glass. Even the very top allows sunlight to filter through.

After entering, it is like a town world, but the difference is that the previous towns were flat, while the current towns are all distributed in levels, which has the flavor of a "mountain city".

Residential buildings, commercial streets, offices, and so on, all of them are in abundance. It looks pretty much the same as it did before the apocalypse.

Such joy and thoughts did not last long, because at the next checkpoint, no matter who you are, you must undergo instrument testing, and after the test, you must participate in the hierarchical selection held in the base.

The final admission quota will be determined based on ability assessment and contribution to the base. Xiao Yi looked at the grand display and couldn't help but sigh. This truly represents the ultimate in the survival of the fittest. A pure land in the apocalypse obviously can't become a haven for pests, but there's nothing wrong with that approach.

Everyone also happily accepted this condition and lined up to pass through the gates. The green light means everything went smoothly. The red light means there is a suspicion of virus...

But no one expected that when it came to Xiao Yi, the light turned yellow, which meant that no one could pass through, but no one was prevented from passing through either.

The person in charge of traffic immediately informed his superiors when he saw this situation.

Moreover, their communication method is much more advanced. Everyone has something like a smart watch on their hand, which can clearly show the status of the base signal coverage, work, communication, contribution points, location, whether infected with the zombie virus, etc.

Just by looking at it, Xiao Yi felt that this place was many times more advanced than all the other bases.

After the information was reported, a woman in a light blue uniform with a lightning badge on her chest quickly emerged, holding an unknown instrument and beginning to scan Xiao Yi's body. She then looked at the monitor in her hand and muttered something. Finally, she looked at Xiao Yi intently and said in a calm voice, "Sorry to bother you. There's a problem with our equipment. You can leave now." She bowed slightly apologetically and led everyone away.

As the saying goes, people come and go in a hurry. Many people in the original place still don't understand what's going on. They just see people coming and going, leaving people confused. Xiao Yi didn't take this little episode to heart. After all the inspections were completed, the entire No. 1 base was clean and there was no infection. There were no special problems. Everyone moved in smoothly.

But this move-in doesn't mean you can officially live in the base. Now they are only entering an outer corner, temporarily housing everyone. The houses here are very similar to pigeon cages, two meters high and three meters wide, with two single beds, temporarily settling in. Of course, people like Xiao Yi who have cars can also choose to live in their cars.

Many people chose to get off the bus to explore and satisfy their curiosity. After all, the place was so spectacular. You could even see cars driving on the different roads. To everyone, this was no more than a paradise on earth. Even Granny Liu visiting the Grand View Garden was astonished. Many people even cried with excitement, unable to believe they could live in such a place in the future.

Xiao Yi didn't feel very deeply touched. No matter where he was, Xiao Yi felt that he lived a good life. The current situation here was still unknown what energy it relied on to maintain it. Once the energy was exhausted, would this place still be so bright and beautiful? Compared with the present, Xiao Yi still felt that a few lifetimes in his own space were more secure than the supplies that could not be used up in dozens of lifetimes.

But there is also a benefit to being inside this sphere, which is the temperature. I don’t know what kind of heating device is used here, but the temperature inside this sphere is almost maintained at around 10 degrees. Many people think it is warmer here than in a car.

Lying on the bed in the temporary house over there, I didn’t seem to be cold at all.

Xiao Yi sat in the car, cutting a watermelon and giving Yu Wei half each, while watching a movie and chatting: "Why don't you go out and have a look?" Yu Wei took a bite of the sweet watermelon, squinting her eyes because it was so delicious: "No, I don't like it. This is almost like a science fiction movie. I don't know if it will work."
