Xiao Yi's hands clenched unconsciously, and his palms were full of sweat. He thought of the expectant eyes of the farmers and the hard work everyone had put in to fight the insect plague. "If protection is given priority, what will happen to the farmers who have lost their farmland? Their lives will be in despair." Xiao Yi thought secretly in his heart, "But if it is distributed equally, everyone may have to face the dilemma of food shortage." He paced back and forth in the field, and the land under his feet seemed to be urging him to make a decision as soon as possible. Every moment of delay would make the damage caused by the insect plague more serious. Xiao Yi looked up at the sky, took a deep breath, and tried to calm himself down. But the inner entanglement made him feel extremely heavy. This decision was related to the future of everyone, and he knew that he had a heavy responsibility.
Seeking external assistance. To secure more resources and support, Xiao Yi dispatched envoys to neighboring bases for assistance. At dawn one day, the envoys, burdened with the hopes of the people, embarked on an uncertain journey. They rode fast horses, the clatter of their hooves echoing along the silent road. Xiao Yi personally saw the envoys off, his gaze filled with eager anticipation. "This journey is arduous. Please inform us of our plight truthfully and request their assistance," Xiao Yi said, shaking the envoys' hands tightly. The envoys nodded solemnly, their eyes determined. They journeyed along the winding mountain road, braving the wind and sun without a single pause. After several days of travel, the envoys finally arrived at the first neighboring base. Despite their exhaustion, they immediately sought an audience with the base's leader. "Our base has suffered a severe insect infestation and is extremely short of resources. We implore your assistance," the envoys said earnestly, their voices tinged with urgency. However, the base itself was facing numerous challenges and could not offer much concrete assistance. They nonetheless offered some encouragement and advice. The messengers were not discouraged and continued to the next base. Along the way, they encountered bad weather and the roads were muddy and difficult to walk on, but the faith in their hearts supported them to keep moving forward. After arriving at the second base, the messengers described in detail the severity of the insect plague and the hard work that Xiao Yi had done in leading everyone to fight. The person in charge of the base was moved by their sincerity and, after some discussion, decided to provide some pesticides and insect control equipment. The messengers were grateful and had no time to rest. They hurriedly set out on their return journey with the hard-earned supplies and hope. When they returned to their base with the resources, everyone cheered. Xiao Yi looked at the exhausted but joyful messengers, and his hope of defeating the insect plague was rekindled in his heart.
But in this apocalyptic world, each base is vulnerable, and the hope of aid is slim. This is a world shrouded in disaster, with scarce resources and peril lurking everywhere. Each base is struggling to survive. When Xiao Yi's envoys arrived at the first base, full of hope, they found only desolation and desolation. The base's walls were riddled with cracks, as if on the verge of collapse. The people inside looked haggard, their eyes revealing a deep sense of exhaustion and helplessness. The base's leader shook his head helplessly, saying, "Our own food reserves are running low, and our farmland is suffering from pests and diseases. We simply don't have the resources to support you." The envoys' hearts sank. On their way to the second base, the envoys passed a once-thriving town, now reduced to ruins and a dead silence. This made them realize even more clearly how difficult survival is in this apocalyptic world. Upon arriving at the second base, the envoys found the situation there equally dire. While not as dilapidated as the first, it was still struggling to survive. The person in charge said with trepidation, "We barely have enough pesticides and pest control equipment. We can't give you much. Besides, we're facing other threats and can't afford to take care of ourselves." The situation was the same at the third base, the fourth base... Each base faced its own intractable challenges, whether resource shortages, internal strife, or external threats. The emissaries' hearts grew heavier. They knew that in these apocalyptic times, aid was elusive, and hope, like a candle in the wind, could be extinguished at any moment. Yet, they refused to give up, continuing their search for help, knowing that the people back home were still eagerly waiting for a glimmer of hope.
Despite facing numerous difficulties, Xiao Yi and the people at the base never gave up. In a land ravaged by insects and lacking resources, Xiao Yi stood tall, his gaze fixed firmly on the horizon. His face was etched with fatigue and age, yet the fire within him remained undimmed. Every morning, Xiao Yi was the first to arrive in the fields. Bending down, he carefully inspected the crops for damage, never missing even the slightest glimmer of hope. He encouraged those around him, "As long as we're alive, there's hope!" The people at the base followed Xiao Yi's lead. The farmers, once masters of the fields, their hands calloused and their eyes bloodshot, remained devoted to each crop. With their rough hands, they meticulously disinfested and fertilized the crops, as if they were protecting their most precious children. Behind the scenes, the women diligently conserved every grain of food, meticulously preparing simple yet heartwarming meals, providing solid logistical support for those fighting on the front lines. The children stopped playing and took the initiative to take on tasks within their abilities, helping pass tools and bringing water to the adults. Their innocent eyes were filled with anticipation for the future. At night, when people gathered together, there were no complaints, no tears, only mutual encouragement and longing for the future. They recalled the good old days and firmly believed that they would overcome this difficult time. "We will definitely defeat the insect plague and rebuild our home!" This voice echoed throughout the base, becoming the most steadfast belief in everyone's heart. Even though the difficulties were as huge as a mountain and hope was as weak as a candlelight, Xiao Yi and the people at the base always persevered, using their tenacity and courage to grope forward in the darkness, waiting for the dawn to come.
