Chapter 764 Energy Destruction

"When will this energy source be fixed?" Angry voices echoed from every corner of the base, with complaints echoing one after another. An elderly man, his face brimming with age, clenched his fists and trembled as he spoke, "My old bones can't stand this torture. Groping in the dark every day, suffering in the cold, when will it end?" His eyes were filled with helplessness and exhaustion. A young mother, cradling a shivering child in her arms, cried, "The child is still young. How can we live like this? If the energy source is not fixed soon, the child will get sick!" Tears welled up in her eyes. The workers also put down their tools and shouted, "We work so hard every day, but the energy source still doesn't work. Is this going to work?" Their faces were filled with anxiety and disappointment. A man who looked like an intellectual adjusted his glasses and spoke in a low and urgent voice: "Are the relevant departments trying to find a solution? This hopeless waiting is really frustrating!" The complaints in the crowd became louder and louder, as if they had converged into a surging torrent: "When will this energy source be repaired? How long do we have to wait?" Anger, helplessness, and anxiety filled the air, making the already depressing atmosphere even heavier.

However, just as everyone was sinking into despair, a piece of good news arrived, like a brilliant meteor streaking through the dark night sky: the entire floating base had passed inspection and discovered a piece of land with remarkably stable plate tectonics. This news was like a warm spring breeze, instantly dispelling the long-simmering gloom from everyone's hearts. The once lifeless base suddenly became lively, and hope reignited in everyone's eyes. In their imaginations, that piece of land was a paradise full of vitality and possibility. It was no longer a distant fantasy, but a tangible hope. Perhaps there was fertile soil there, capable of growing abundant crops; perhaps there were rich mineral resources there, solving the problem of energy shortages; perhaps there were clear streams there, providing people with sweet water. Everyone began to discuss it enthusiastically, their faces filled with long-lost smiles. Children leaped with excitement, as if they could already see themselves playing to their heart's content on the new land. Elders, tears of excitement glistening in their eyes, murmured their longings for a better future. Young and middle-aged people rubbed their hands, eager to work hard on the new land and carve out a new world of their own. This dawn of hope illuminated every corner, filling the base, once shrouded in darkness and cold, with renewed vitality and anticipation. It was as if a bright future beckoned them, a future filled with hope, warmth, and light.

"Really? Then we are saved!" This surprised cry resounded throughout the base, and the light of hope rekindled in people's eyes. A ragged uncle's eyes, which had been dull and lifeless before, now widened with excitement. His cracked lips trembled as he murmured to himself, "Great, great, finally there is hope." A young woman covered her mouth and tears burst out after hearing the news. They were tears of joy. The light in her eyes was like the bright stars in the night sky, "We can really get rid of this nightmare life." A white-haired old lady had a relieved smile on her wrinkled face, and her eyes were rekindled with bright light, "God has eyes, our hard days are coming to an end." A group of children gathered together, cheering, the light of hope in their clear eyes was so dazzling, as if they had seen a beautiful future, "We can live a normal life!" The workers put down their tools and hugged each other, the light in their eyes was full of strength and determination, "We must work harder and strive for a new life!" The entire base was immersed in joy and hope, and everyone's eyes were burning with a blazing light of hope, as if it could dispel all darkness and coldness and illuminate the way to a better future.

Faced with this rare opportunity, the base's leaders convened an urgent meeting to discuss whether to proceed to the landmass. The atmosphere in the conference room was heavy and tense, with solemn-faced leaders seated around the large conference table. The bright lights seemed exceptionally bright, yet they couldn't dispel the anxiety and conflict within everyone. The base's top commander folded his hands, his brow furrowed, and surveyed everyone present with a deep gaze. He slowly spoke, "This is an opportunity that could change our destiny, but it also carries enormous risks. We must carefully consider it." A senior scientist adjusted his glasses, his voice steady but tinged with anxiety. "Although the tests show the tectonic plates are stable, our understanding of the landmass is still very limited. The ecological environment and potential dangers are all unknown." The officer in charge of resource management then spoke, "The base's current resource reserves are extremely limited. If we decide to proceed, can we afford the journey? This is the key question." Another leader, pounding the table, spoke firmly, "But if we miss this opportunity, how long can we survive in this energy-scarce base? This may be our last hope." The debate raged. Some advocated for a courageous advance, grasping at this lifeline; others, fearing the unknown risks, advocated for continued observation and preparation. The clock ticked, and every decision hinged on the survival of everyone at the base. The wind howled outside, as if urging them to make a quick decision. The air in the conference room seemed frozen, the tense atmosphere almost suffocating.
