Chapter 771 The Consequences of Mutation

The camp's entrance was secured by a heavy iron gate, locked with a thick chain. The watchtower had been heightened and reinforced, equipped with high-performance telescopes for constant observation. Every detail had been meticulously considered, striving to make the fortifications impenetrable. At this moment, they were fully prepared, bracing themselves for the arrival of an unknown threat.

"There can't be any loopholes. This is a matter of life and death." Xiao Yi's voice was deep and powerful, each word hammering down on everyone's hearts like a hammer. His eyes were stern and resolute, without a trace of hesitation or retreat. Xiao Yi stood in the center of the crowd, his posture as straight as a pine tree, his gaze scanning the busy people around him with a resolute fire. His eyes burned with a determined fire that seemed to penetrate all fog and difficulties. It was an unquestionable determination, a dedication to survival and a desire for victory. "Hurry! Close that gap!" Xiao Yi roared, his voice echoing in the air. He pointed to a weak point in the defense, his expression serious and urgent. "Check the weapons here again to ensure they are flawless!" His eyes were sharp, not missing a single detail. Under his command, everyone worked more intensively and orderly. Xiao Yi's eyes revealed a strong leadership and decisiveness that inspired people to believe and follow him. He knew that every decision and every action at this moment depended on everyone's survival. Therefore, his gaze remained firm and never wavered for a moment, as if declaring to the unknown threats: We are ready and will never fall easily!

Suddenly, amidst the hectic atmosphere, a burst of excited shouts erupted. "Look! I caught it!" Everyone looked in the direction of the voice, only to see a figure dancing with excitement, their face beaming with uncontrollable joy. A closer look revealed that someone had successfully captured a mutant octopus. This octopus was completely different from those usually seen: its body was larger, its tentacles thicker and covered in strange patterns, its vibrant colors emanating a mysterious aura. The octopus twisted and struggled desperately in the man's grasp, its tentacles flailing wildly, trying to break free. Its eyes shone with an eerie light, as if expressing its reluctance to be captured. The crowd gathered around, eyes filled with surprise and curiosity. "What a surprise!" someone exclaimed. Everyone chatted enthusiastically about the mutant octopus, their previously heavy moods lightened slightly by this unexpected surprise.

The octopus was enormous, like a behemoth. Its unfurled body almost took up a vast area, its thick tentacles snaking and extending like a giant python, their length astonishing. Its appearance was breathtakingly bizarre. Its head was irregularly shaped, covered in strange wrinkles and protrusions, as if it were a whimsical creation of nature. Its skin, unlike the smooth texture of a typical octopus, was rough and grainy, its colors shimmering with an almost eerie variegation: deep purple, mysterious blue, and eerie green, interwoven into one another, creating a sense of mystery. However, the crowd at that moment had no time to dwell on its bizarre appearance. Long-lasting hunger had overwhelmed their minds, and each was consumed by a single urge for food. As they gazed at the giant, writhing octopus, their thoughts lingered not on its strangeness but on the aroma of it roasting over the fire, the delicious taste of its succulent flesh. "This should taste good!" someone muttered, swallowing hard. The others nodded in agreement, as if they had witnessed a sumptuous meal, as if the pain of hunger was about to be dispelled by this unexpected harvest.

"Haha, we're in for a treat!" The excited shouts spread like a gust of wind, sweeping through the camp. Everyone's face lit up with smiles of relief, the joy of finally seeing hope after being suppressed by hunger for so long. The cry first burst from one throat, then spread like a relay, one after another. "We're in for a treat!" "Finally, we can have a good meal!" The cheers rose and fell, mingling together into a sea of joy. The men clapped their shoulders, their hearty laughter echoing in the air. Their eyes, dimmed by hunger, now brightened. The women hugged each other, tears of excitement glistening in anticipation of the delicious meal to come. Children ran through the crowd, shouting joyfully as if cheering were their favorite game. The entire camp was engulfed in this atmosphere of hope and joy, the sounds growing louder and louder, as if they were about to break through the clouds, announcing to the world the wonderful moment that was about to arrive. Xiao Yi stood quietly on the mobile base's observation deck, his gaze fixed on the turbulent ocean. The howling wind tugged at his clothes, threatening to engulf him in endless anxiety. The ocean was no longer the familiar one he remembered. The once azure and deep waters had become murky, tinged with an eerie hue, as if eroded by some dark force. Wave after wave crashed against the base's edge, creating a deafening roar like the ocean's furious roar. Xiao Yi's brow furrowed, the wrinkles on his forehead as deep as ravines. His eyes were filled with anxiety and fear, as if he could see an unknown threat quietly awakening beneath the waves. The surging waves were no longer the breath of nature, but rather the prelude to a catastrophe. Each surge carried a chilling force, as if threatening to swallow the world whole. His heart felt heavy, as if weighed down by a boulder. This ocean, once a source of boundless resources and hope, has now become a source of fear. He doesn't know where this terrifying mutation will lead the world, nor does he know if humanity has enough strength to face this unknown catastrophe. But he knows this is just the beginning, a beginning filled with uncertainty and danger.
