Chapter 779 The Consequences of Mutation 9

The moment Xiao Yi and the others set foot on this new land, their overflowing joy froze slightly as they took in the sight before them. Before them lay a vast forest, as mysterious and awe-inspiring as an ancient behemoth. At the forest's edge, towering trees stood like silent guardians, reaching into the sky. Their trunks were so thick that even several people could barely wrap their arms around them. Lush branches and leaves intertwined, blocking out the sun. Sunlight could only barely squeeze through the gaps, casting dappled shadows on the ground. Entering the forest, a thick mat of rotten leaves lay beneath their feet, exuding a damp, decaying scent. Vines, some as thick as an arm, others as thin as a hair, snaked through the trunks and branches like giant pythons. A rich, unique scent, a blend of earth and plants, hung in the air. All around was eerily quiet, broken only by the occasional chirp of an unknown bird, breaking the heart-wrenching stillness. The further they went, the dimmer the light grew, as if they had entered a mysterious, secluded world. Xiao Yi and the others nervously gripped their weapons, watching their surroundings with vigilance. With every step forward, they felt an invisible pressure, as if the forest were scrutinizing these uninvited guests. They had no idea what dangers and unknowns lay hidden in this mysterious forest, but for the hope of survival, they could only bite the bullet and cautiously explore forward.

The forest shone with a rich, almost dark green, its lush greenery radiating as if nature had freely applied its richest paint. Tall trees towered like giant spirits, their trunks thick and straight, their veins rough and deep, as if they spoke of the vicissitudes of time. Layers and layers of lush branches and leaves intertwined, forming a dense green canopy that blocked out the sun. Sunlight struggled to penetrate this thick barrier, but could only fragment into tiny beams, scattered across the ground like golden threads. Within the forest, the air seemed to grow heavy, permeated with a moist and mysterious atmosphere. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, yet no pattern could be discerned, as if the forest were whispering untold secrets. Among the grass, unknown wildflowers quietly blossomed, their vibrant colors brimming with an indescribable, hazy beauty. Deep in the forest, faint sounds drift by, perhaps the snapping of branches, the footsteps of animals, or perhaps just the wind playing tricks on you. All of this imbues the forest with an air of the unknown, filling one with both curiosity and awe, as if every step forward could lead to a whole new world filled with unknown challenges.

Xiao Yi stood at the edge of the forest, his gaze fixed on the deep green world. Curiosity flickered in his eyes like a burning flame. The lush trees, tall and mysterious, were like an ancient book, never opened, waiting for him to decipher its secrets. He imagined the wonders hidden within the forest. Could it be exotic flowers and plants he had never seen before? Or perhaps mysterious ancient ruins from legends? Perhaps, deep within the dense forest, lay a treasure that could change their fate. Yet, at the same time, a sense of wariness crept into his heart. He knew all too well that nature's beauty often carries danger. This forest was so quiet and profound, who knew if there were deadly threats lurking beneath its dense shade? Perhaps a ferocious beast was hiding in the shadows, watching them, the uninvited guests, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Or perhaps a venomous snake was slithering through the grass, ready to bare its deadly fangs. Xiao Yi tightened his grip on his weapon, his brow furrowed slightly, his heartbeat quickening with nervousness and anticipation. He knew that facing this unknown forest, every step required caution, as the slightest negligence could lead everyone into an irretrievable situation. However, his strong curiosity was like an invisible hand, constantly pulling him and urging him to bravely take the first step of exploration.

Xiao Yi and the others found a relatively flat spot outside the forest and sat down. They panted heavily, their bodies exhausted, making every movement seem heavy. Someone pulled some dry food and water from their meager packs, and everyone silently shared the food, replenishing their depleted strength. After a short rest, their eyes gradually grew firmer. Xiao Yi stood up and looked around. His voice, though hoarse, was full of strength: "Brothers, we can't stay here forever. This forest may be our hope for survival. Let's go in and explore!" Everyone nodded, their eyes alight with renewed hope. They packed their bags and tightened their clothes, clutching their simple weapons like sticks and daggers. Xiao Yi walked in front, taking his first cautious step into the mysterious forest. The fallen leaves rustled beneath their feet, like a whisper from the forest, warning them not to tread rashly. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, forming golden beams that illuminated their path. But this faint light seemed so insignificant in the deep forest, as if it would be swallowed by darkness at any moment. Every few steps, they would stop, listen carefully to the sounds around them, and observe their surroundings. The occasional drop of water falling from the branches would make their hearts tighten. But they did not retreat, and they walked resolutely deeper into the forest, their hearts full of longing for a future home.

The moment they entered the forest, Xiao Yi and the others felt as if they were being pulled into a strange world by an invisible hand. A thin layer of mist permeated the surroundings, making the already dim light even more hazy. The ground beneath their feet felt soft and pliable, like walking on a thick layer of moss, yet possessed an inexplicable springiness that made every step unsettling. A strange smell, a mixture of decay and an unknown, pungent odor, tingled their nostrils. The surroundings were eerily quiet, almost unsettling. No birds chirped, no insects hummed; only the sound of their footsteps and heavy breathing echoed in the air. The towering trees seemed to silently watch them, exuding an air of indifference and alienation. Suddenly, a cold wind blew without warning, bringing a chill that made them shiver. The wind rustled through the branches, making a sound like a whimper, as if the forest were groaning in pain. The branches seemed to be imbued with life, twisting in the wind and occasionally whipping them. Occasionally, strange shadows would flash through the grass, so fast that it was impossible to see clearly what they were. Sometimes, a faint sound could be heard in the distance, like a low roar or a sinister sneer, leaving one's hair standing on end. Xiao Yi and the others' hearts beat rapidly, and cold sweat broke out on their foreheads, but they could only bite the bullet and continue forward, the fear in their hearts growing stronger with each step.
