Chapter 788: Wilderness Construction 6

Once, this city was so prosperous. Crowds thronged the bustling streets, their voices echoing in a sea of joy. Tall buildings towered, reaching the heavens, their glass facades gleaming brilliantly in the sunlight. Shops overflowed with a dazzling array of goods, beckoning everyone's attention. The aroma of delicious food filled the streets, making everyone salivate. However, the relentless flames of war swept through, wiping out everything in an instant. Now, only ruins and devastation remain. Once-grand buildings collapsed to the ground, piled high with broken bricks and concrete like vast tombs. The streets were pitted, riddled with craters and cracks, with weeds stubbornly growing through the cracks. The once bustling commercial district now lay silent, its windows shattered and goods scattered across the ground, buried beneath dust and debris. Xiao Yi stood quietly amid the ruins, his gaze slowly scanning the scene before him. His eyes were filled with pain and sorrow as he recalled the beauty and prosperity of the city. Those bustling scenes seemed to be still before his eyes, yet the reality was so cruel. His heart was trembling, grieving for the suffering the city had endured. But amidst that deep sorrow, Xiao Yi's eyes were filled with firm determination. He clenched his fists and secretly vowed to bring the city back to life. He knew that the road to reconstruction was full of hardships, but he was not afraid. That determined look seemed to tell everyone that no matter what the cost, he would make these ruins rise again and restore their former prosperity.

Standing before the rubble, they took a deep breath, bracing themselves for the daunting, almost daunting task of cleanup. Before them lay the collapsed buildings, like shattered giants, sprawled across the ground. Huge blocks of concrete intertwined, twisted rebar jutting from them like desperate, struggling arms. Broken bricks, cracked stone, and shattered glass piled haphazardly together, forming precipitous hills. Abandoned vehicles lay everywhere, some crushed and severely deformed by heavy objects, others overturned on the roadside, their wheels spinning futilely. Their windows shattered, their interiors scattered, blending seamlessly with the surrounding rubble. These vehicles, once a vibrant part of the city's landscape, now stood as an obstacle to reconstruction. The mountains of garbage were even more shocking. Domestic waste, construction debris, industrial waste, and other materials all mixed together, emitting a foul odor. Waste paper, plastic bottles, worn-out furniture, broken appliances, and other unrecognizable debris piled higher and higher, seemingly swallowing up the entire space. Every piece of collapsed building material, every abandoned vehicle, every pile of foul-smelling garbage was a challenge before them. But they did not retreat, for they held in their hearts the belief in rebuilding their home. That faith, like a burning flame, gave them the courage and strength to face this seemingly insurmountable task.

Xiao Yi straightened his back, his gaze firm and steady as he gazed at the survivors gathered around him. His resonant, powerful voice echoed through the ruins: "Fellow villagers, if we want to rebuild our homes, we must start by cleaning up this mess!" The survivors responded one after another, their eyes revealing hope for the future and their trust in Xiao Yi. Xiao Yi quickly organized everyone, dividing them into teams based on their abilities and strengths. One group was responsible for handling the collapsed buildings. Armed with shovels, crowbars, and other tools, they cautiously approached the crumbling rubble. Strong young men mustered their strength to lift heavy stones and concrete blocks, passing them aside. Experienced elders provided direction, ensuring the safe and orderly progress of the work. Another group focused on clearing the abandoned vehicles. They first checked the interiors for any usable items, then used ropes and cranes to tow them off the road one by one. If a vehicle became unstartable, they worked together to push it to a designated area to make room for the cleanup. There is also a group responsible for dealing with the mountains of garbage. Wearing masks and gloves, they sorted and organized the garbage without fear of dirt and fatigue. Useful materials were picked out for future reuse; unusable garbage was loaded onto carts and transported to a distant landfill. Xiao Yi shuttled between the various groups, sometimes cheering everyone up, and sometimes helping out personally. His figure was like a stabilizing force, making everyone feel at ease. Under his organization, although the survivors were busy, everything went on in an orderly manner. Their clothes were soaked with sweat, but no one complained, no one stopped, and they had only one common goal in their hearts - to bring this ruin back to life.

As the arduous cleanup work progressed, the daunting problem of supply shortages, like a ferocious beast, gradually bared its fangs and began to hinder progress. At first, there were only subtle signs. Tools were wearing out at a much faster rate than expected, yet spare shovels, crowbars, and hammers were scarce. People were forced to use existing tools with even greater caution, fearing that a single mistake would completely break them and bring the work to a halt. As time went on, the situation worsened. Ropes used to lift heavy objects were frayed and broken from constant use, but replacements were nowhere to be found. Protective gear such as helmets, gloves, and masks became increasingly scarce. Hard hats, already worn, became even more fragile from constant collisions. Gloves were riddled with holes, leaving hands exposed to rough building materials and sharp edges of garbage, leaving them scarred. Masks were losing their filtering effectiveness, yet they were not being replaced promptly, allowing dust and odors to invade people's airways with impunity. Food and water supplies were also becoming increasingly scarce. Already meager food reserves dwindled rapidly, making each meal increasingly simple and scarce. The scarcity of water was even more of a source of anxiety, forcing people to carefully ration every drop, their thirst unbearable but helpless. The shortage of medical supplies was even more daunting. Injuries were inevitable during the cleanup, but disinfectants, bandages, and medicines were extremely scarce. Minor wounds, without prompt and effective treatment, increased the risk of infection. The shadow of scarcity hung over everyone, making the already challenging cleanup even more challenging. Yet, despite this, everyone persevered, persevering through the difficult situation, hoping for improvement and a speedy victory over these numerous difficulties.
