Chapter 807: Fighting Together 14

This creates a soft cushion between the building and the earth, minimizing the destructive force of earthquakes. The building's main structural design utilizes a frame-shear wall system. The frame supports vertical loads, while the shear walls primarily absorb horizontal seismic forces. The two work together to ensure the building maintains good stability during earthquakes. Furthermore, the shear walls are carefully designed for even and symmetrical distribution, avoiding seismic weaknesses caused by a shift in the structure's center of gravity. Furthermore, key areas of the building, such as beam-column joints and stairwells, have been reinforced. The increased reinforcement and stirrup density in these areas enhances shear resistance and ductility, preventing premature failure during earthquakes and ensuring the safety of the entire building structure.

The walls of the base are a sturdy fortress for the entire structure. Carefully constructed from a thick new composite material, they exhibit astonishing strength. The walls are incredibly thick, each panel tightly joined and seamlessly fitted together, appearing to be a single, natural unit. The material's texture is delicate yet tough, its surface radiating a cool metallic sheen, giving the impression of indestructibility. Close inspection reveals the walls' fine, regular grain, a testament to their intricate internal structure. Neither intense pressure nor violent impact leaves a noticeable mark on their surface. A powerful hammer strike yields only a dull thud, the hammer rebounding, while the wall remains unmoved, not even the slightest dent. Even the most advanced drilling equipment, attempting to drill holes, finds progress extremely slow, the drill bit rapidly wearing out from the material, while the wall remains unbroken. While ordinary walls might weather and crumble under the ravages of wind and rain, the base walls constructed from this new composite material remain unaffected. Facing the frenzied onslaught of zombies, they stood like an impenetrable barrier, firmly protecting everything within the base. Even the most powerful force could hardly break this impenetrable defense. This thick, new composite wall served not only as a physical barrier but also as a symbol of safety and hope for the survivors, ensuring they could withstand any threat in this apocalyptic world, protected by such a barrier.

The peaceful days didn't last. Just as people thought life was returning to normal and the base would offer them lasting peace, the appearance of a new type of zombie shattered this fragile tranquility. One gloomy morning, a patrol discovered some unusual sightings in the wilderness outside the base. Initially, they thought they were just ordinary zombie activity, but as they investigated further, a sense of foreboding overtook them. When the first of these new zombies appeared, everyone was stunned. Its body was significantly taller than that of a typical zombie, its muscles twisted and bulging, as if imbued with boundless power. Its skin was an eerie dark blue, covered in strange patterns, like some sinister totem. Its eyes were no longer blank, but gleamed with a cunning and fierce light, as if possessing a certain intelligence. Its movements were no longer slow and clumsy, but swift as lightning, capable of covering distances of several meters in an instant. The new zombie's claws were as sharp as knives, capable of tearing through metal with ease. Their fangs are sharp and laced with venom. Once bitten, the venom rapidly spreads throughout the body, resulting in fatal consequences. Even more terrifying, this new zombie appears to possess the ability to organize and command. No longer acting alone, they coordinate with one another to launch strategic attacks. The sight of them approaching the base in droves is terrifying. Their roars are also distinct from those of ordinary zombies: deeper and more sinister, like a roar from hell, sending shivers down the spines of those who hear them.

One morning, the sun had barely peeked over the horizon, and the base was drenched in tranquility. However, this peace was soon shattered. Atop the base's watchtower, the sentry stared intently into the distance as usual. Suddenly, his pupils constricted, his face awash with fear and anxiety. Then, with all his might, he blasted the alarm. The shrill, piercing sound seemed to rip through the still-awakened sky. "Woo-woo-woo," one after another, echoed across the base, instantly shattering the stillness. The sudden alarm startled the slumbering residents, their hearts leaping to their throats, a sense of foreboding gripping them all. Those working stopped their work, looked up, and eagerly gazed toward the watchtower, their ears straining to catch the relentless sirens, trying to discern the impending danger. Children clung to their parents, their eyes filled with fear and confusion. At this time, the voice of the sentry on the watchtower had become hoarse, but he still used his last bit of strength to keep shouting, reminding everyone in the base that a huge crisis was approaching.

When Xiao Yi and the others heard the alarm, their hearts suddenly tightened. They quickly dropped their tasks and climbed the watchtower as fast as they could. They raced down the narrow staircase, their heartbeats and hurried footsteps echoing throughout the tower. When they finally reached the top, they looked out and saw a dark mass of figures looming on the distant horizon. The sight made them gasp. The shadows, like a surging black cloud, rolled toward the base. As they drew closer, they could see a dense mass of figures—the terrifying zombies. These zombies moved with incredible speed, a stark contrast to the slow movements of ordinary zombies. They leaned forward as they ran, their twisted limbs moving with incredible speed, as if propelled by an invisible force. From afar, their hideous faces could be seen, some with saliva dripping from their mouths, gleaming eerily in the rising sunlight. Their eyes shone with madness and greed, as if they had locked onto the base, eager to devour everything within. Among the zombies, some of the largest ones were particularly eye-catching. They were much taller than ordinary zombies, their muscular bodies full of power, and every step they took made the ground tremble slightly. Xiao Yi and the others looked at this approaching horror with solemn expressions, knowing in their hearts that a fierce battle was about to begin.
