Chapter 832: Fighting Together 39

"You're lucky," Xiao Yi quickly gave Lin Yuxuan an injection of antibiotics, "but this isn't enough."

He noticed that the wound on Lin Yuxuan, stained by the monitor lizard's saliva, had begun to turn black, and the surrounding blood vessels had taken on an unnatural purple hue. The toxin was spreading much faster than expected.

"I need more information," Xiao Yi said to Lin Xiaobei, "Did your sister mention how she was injured?"

Lin Xiaobei shook his head, suddenly remembering something: "But... she said before that those who were chasing us didn't seem to be afraid of these monsters..."

Xiao Yi's brow furrowed. He thought of the predators' sophisticated equipment and their composure in the face of the mutants. All this pointed to a terrifying possibility: someone had already mastered the method to combat the mutations.

At this moment, a sound of metal collision was heard from deep in the air-raid shelter. Xiao Yi immediately became alert. He signaled Lin Xiaobei to keep quiet, and he tightened his grip on his pistol.

The sound came from a room at the end of the corridor. When Xiao Yi approached, he found that the door was electronically locked, but the power seemed to be working. He tried several common password combinations, but unexpectedly, the door was actually opened.

The scene in the room took his breath away: it was a well-equipped laboratory, its walls covered with various research materials and photos. The most eye-catching thing was the incubator in the center of the room, inside which floated a creepy biological specimen—the embryo of a mutant giant lizard.

Xiao Yi quickly scanned the documents on the wall, becoming increasingly alarmed. The documents revealed that this was once a secret research base specializing in biological weapons research. The mutants outside were likely test subjects that had escaped from here.

Suddenly, his eyes were drawn to a document. It was an experimental record detailing how to create a vaccine using the toxins of mutant organisms. The record showed that a small amount of toxin combined with a specific serum could induce the human body to produce antibodies.

Xiao Yi's heartbeat quickened. He looked at the unconscious Lin Yuxuan, and a bold plan formed in his mind. But at this moment, a violent banging sound came from the door of the air-raid shelter.

The looters had found them. The apocalyptic sky seemed stained by a thick, impenetrable ink, oppressive to the point of suffocation. A gust of wind, carrying the acrid stench of decay and the odor of burning, carelessly swept through the shattered walls of the city. The once bustling city was now a devastated mess, its crumbling buildings groaning in agony, as if telling of past glory and present despair.

Lin Yuxuan and her younger brother, Lin Yuhao, were like two lone wolves tenaciously clinging to life amidst the ruins. Lin Yuxuan was slender, her neatly cropped hair dancing in the wind. Her eyes betrayed a resilience undimmed by hardships. She clutched her homemade weapon, taking each step with care, ever vigilant of the dangers around her. Lin Yuhao, his youthful face radiating a fortitude belying his age, followed closely behind. In this apocalyptic world where the strong prey on the weak, he had long since learned how to protect himself and his sister from danger.

That day, they were searching the ruins for supplies as usual. Suddenly, a chaotic clatter of footsteps shattered the silence. A group of looters, like hungry wolves, swarmed from all sides. These looters were massive, their faces covered in hideous masks, their weapons gleaming coldly in the dim light. The leader let out a piercing laugh, like the cry of a night owl: "Little bastards, today is your day to die!"

Lin Yuxuan's heart tightened. She quickly shielded her brother behind her, whispering, "Yuhao, don't be afraid. I'm here." Her voice was firm, but her slightly trembling hands betrayed her inner nervousness. Facing the overwhelming number of marauders, Lin Yuxuan and Lin Yuhao remained undaunted and engaged them fiercely. Lin Yuxuan's agility and her wielding of her weapon with ferocious speed made it difficult for the marauders to reach her. However, the marauders were too numerous, and the encirclement gradually shrank. Gradually, Lin Yuxuan and Lin Yuhao were trapped. Lin Yuxuan, wounded in many places, blood staining her tattered clothes, remained fiercely guarding her brother, her eyes gleaming with unyielding determination.

Just as the looters were about to succeed, a loud bang like thunder erupted. A bomb exploded among the looters, scattering them in a hail of blood and flesh. Lin Yuxuan and Lin Yuhao seized the opportunity to escape, desperately running towards an unknown direction. Their figures gradually faded away in the ruins, leaving behind only chaos and devastation.

Chapter 2: The Mysterious Laboratory

While on the run, Lin Yuxuan and Lin Yuhao stumble upon a laboratory hidden deep in the mountains. The lab's doors are tightly shut, and the surroundings are filled with strange instruments and defensive structures, resembling a mysterious fortress. Lin Yuxuan's heart flutters, an inexplicable intuition telling her that this lab may be inextricably linked to their fate.

After a difficult exploration, they finally found their way into the laboratory. It was dark and damp, filled with a pungent, almost nauseating chemical odor. The walls were covered with strange charts and data, and the lab tables were filled with sophisticated instruments and reagents, gleaming with a cold light. In a corner, they found a crucial document detailing experimental data for a vaccine.

This information offered hope for Lin Yuxuan's recovery. It turned out that this vaccine not only protected against the apocalyptic virus but also possessed powerful healing properties, capable of healing a wide range of wounds. Lin Yuxuan excitedly examined the information in her hands, her eyes gleaming with hope, as if she had seen the dawn of hope in the darkness. However, just as they were about to further research the vaccine, a sharp alarm suddenly rang out in the laboratory. A group of people in white hazmat suits swarmed in from all directions, surrounding them.
