Chapter 836: Fighting Together 45

Xiao Yi clenched his fists, with a flash of anger and determination in his eyes: "I must stop this, no matter what the cost."

At this moment, the console suddenly issued a shrill alarm, and the data on the screen began to flash rapidly. Xiao Yi realized that he might have triggered some kind of self-destruct program.

"Damn it!" He quickly unplugged a storage device from the console, turned around and ran towards the exit.

The building behind him began to shake violently, and the pipes on the wall burst one after another, sparks flying everywhere. Xiao Yi ran with all his might and finally rushed out of the building at the last moment.

Behind him, a huge explosion sounded, and flames and thick smoke shot up into the sky. Xiao Yi was knocked to the ground by the air wave, and rolled several times before he could barely stabilize his body.

He lay on the ground, gasping for breath, holding the storage device tightly in his hand. He knew that he had just escaped death, but the real challenge had just begun.

"Xiaoyu, wait for me," he whispered, his eyes gleaming with determination. The downpour seemed endless, the sky shrouded in thick, dark clouds, like a massive black hand bearing down on the city. The raindrops were no longer gentle drops, but instead pounded the ground like bullets, making a crackling sound. The streets were already ankle-deep in water, the murky water mingling with garbage, gravel, and broken branches, like countless raging snakes slithering freely through the city.

Xiao Yi stood under the eaves of a building, trying to avoid the torrential downpour, but the strong wind, carrying the rain, mercilessly pelted him. His clothes were already soaked through, clinging to his skin and bringing a biting chill. He looked up at the sky. Occasionally, pale lightning flashed through the dark clouds, followed by deafening thunder, as if the sky were roaring, warning of humanity's insignificance and powerlessness.

"This rain... is too abnormal." Xiao Yi murmured in a low voice, frowning.

He looked down at the water beneath his feet. It was rising at a visible rate. Minutes earlier, it had barely reached his ankles, but now it had reached his calves. In the murky water, he could vaguely make out several submerged cars, their headlights flickering faintly in the water, as if sending a final distress signal.

On both sides of the street, the glass of buildings had been shattered by the heavy rain, and the broken windows swayed in the wind, making a "creaking" sound. Some low-rise houses had been flooded, and the roofs were crowded with panicked residents who waved their arms, trying to attract the attention of rescuers.

In the distance, a river surged, its murky waters bursting its banks like an uncontrolled beast, surging toward the city. In its path, the river uprooted trees, toppled power poles, and swept cars from the streets like toys. The flood, mingling with mud and debris, emitted a deep rumble, as if announcing its relentlessness and destructive power.

Xiao Yi's heartbeat quickened. He knew that if he didn't take action, the city would be completely engulfed by the flood. He quickly pulled out a storage device from his pocket, trying to find more clues about the disaster. However, just as he lowered his head to check the device, a huge roar came from the distance.

He looked up suddenly, only to see a flood several meters high sweeping towards him. Like a massive wall of water, it swallowed everything in its path. Cars on the street were swept away, building walls collapsed, and even sturdy utility poles snapped under the force of the torrent.

"Oh no!" Xiao Yi's pupils shrank and he quickly turned around and ran towards a higher place.

His footsteps felt especially heavy in the swamp, each one akin to a race against death. The flood behind him drew closer, its roar piercing his eardrums. He could feel the force of the flood growing stronger, as if an invisible hand were pushing him, trying to pull him into the abyss.

Just as the flood was about to catch up with him, Xiao Yi suddenly grabbed an exposed steel bar and, using inertia, quickly climbed to the second floor of a building that had not yet completely collapsed. The flood roared past his feet, and the huge impact force made the entire building tremble.

Xiao Yi clung to the wall, his heart pounding. He looked down at the floodwaters beneath his feet. Countless debris clung to the muddy water, as if to tell the cruelty of the disaster. The streets in the distance were completely submerged, with only a few rooftops of tall buildings still exposed, floating like isolated islands in the floodwaters.

"This is no longer an ordinary rainstorm..." Xiao Yi whispered, with a hint of despair in his tone.

He knew that this disaster was beyond human control. The torrential rain, floods, and cracks in the ground...all seemed like a carefully planned destruction, and humans were just ants in this destruction.

Just then, his eyes were drawn to a building in the distance. It was a tall building that hadn't completely collapsed, and the lights on the rooftop were particularly dim in the heavy rain. On the rooftop, he vaguely saw several figures waving their arms, trying to attract the attention of rescuers.

"There are still people alive..." Xiao Yi's heart tightened, and he quickly took out the device from his pocket, trying to find a way to the building.

However, just as he was about to act, a violent tremor suddenly struck. The entire building began to shake, cracks in the walls rapidly widened, and debris and dust fell from the ceiling.

"Oh no, the building is going to collapse!" Xiao Yi quickly stood up and ran towards the stairs.

However, the stairs were already flooded, and the muddy water was mixed with broken steel bars and rubble, making it impossible to pass through. Xiao Yi gritted his teeth, turned quickly and ran towards the window. He took a deep breath, slammed the window open, and jumped into the flood outside.
