Chapter 853: Blue Star Destruction 8

In this wasteland shrouded in the shadow of apocalypse, Xiao Yi and his companions are like glimmers of light, stubbornly flickering in the darkness. Though the embers of the nuclear explosion have gradually cooled, the earth remains devastated, and the shadow of radiation lingers like a ghost. Yet, with their tenacious will, they have established a thriving agricultural base on a relatively fertile patch of land.

Inside the base, verdant crops thrive under meticulous care. In neat rows of vegetable plots, tender green vegetables stretch out their leaves, as if proclaiming the unyielding spirit of life to this desolate world. From thick corn stalks, plump cobs hang heavy, their golden hue a ray of hope. The tomatoes on the vines are plump and plump, radiating an alluring red, as if expressing the hope of a bountiful harvest. These crops are not only their hope for survival, but also a rare ray of life in the wasteland, a dazzling sight amidst the gloom.

However, the peaceful days didn't last long. It was a scorching afternoon, the sun blazing high in the sky, scorching the earth until it seemed to be smoking. A reconnaissance team member, riding a battered but meticulously modified motorcycle, rushed back to base at lightning speed. His expression was hurried, exhaustion and anxiety evident. Before he could even stop the motorcycle, he shouted, "Oh no! A powerful mercenary group has appeared nearby, and they seem to have taken a keen interest in our plantation!"

Upon hearing this, Xiao Yi's brow furrowed. Standing atop the base's observation tower, his hands resting on the pergola, he gazed towards the rising dust in the distance, a faint worry welling up in his heart. This mercenary group, called the "Shadow Blade," was renowned for their ruthlessness and unscrupulousness. They roamed this wasteland world where the strong preyed on the weak. Whenever there was profit to be made, they pounced on their prey like hungry wolves, merciless and ruthless. Their ambitions were undoubtedly a sword hanging over the cultivation base, a profound crisis looming.

Xiao Yi knew full well that Shadow Blade was no good. He quickly gathered his companions for an emergency meeting in the base's makeshift conference room. The atmosphere was heavy, worry written across everyone's face. Xiao Yi stood before them, his expression serious and resolute: "Everyone knows Shadow Blade might attack us. We can't just sit there and wait for death. We must find a way to deal with it."

The team members nodded, their eyes revealing determination. A young woman named Lin Xiao spoke first. "We can strengthen the base's defenses, set traps, and place spikes and tripwires around it to give them a head start." Her eyes gleamed with intelligence. Though frail, she possessed a tenacious spirit.

Another strong team member, Li Qiang, went on to say, "Defense is important, but we also need the power to fight back. We can modify those obsolete weapons to increase their lethality." Li Qiang used to be a mechanic and had a lot of experience in weapon modification.

Xiao Yi pondered for a moment and said, "Everyone has a point. Lin Xiao, you will lead a group of people to strengthen the fortifications, paying attention to the reasonable layout of concealment and traps. Li Qiang, you will be responsible for weapon modification and prepare more long-range attack weapons, such as crossbows and simple catapults. At the same time, we will also send people to the surrounding area to collect more intelligence and understand the specific movements and number of 'Shadow Blade'."

With the arrangements complete, everyone sprang into action. Lin Xiao and several team members, armed with shovels, spikes, and other tools, busied themselves around the base. They dug traps, buried sharp spikes inside, and cleverly camouflaged them with branches and hay. At the base's entrance, they set up numerous obstacles, constructing a sturdy barrier made of thick tree trunks and barbed wire.

Li Qiang led a team of soldiers, rummaging through the base's abandoned warehouses to find various spare parts and weapon debris. Using old car engine parts and steel pipes, they crafted simple crossbows, polishing scrap metal into sharp arrowheads. They also used discarded building materials to construct several simple catapults. While crude, they were surprisingly powerful.

The intelligence-gathering team, riding modified motorcycles, sped toward the mercenary group's location. They carefully navigated the ruins, keeping a close eye on their surroundings. After a difficult reconnaissance, they finally brought back crucial intelligence: the Shadow Blades numbered approximately fifty men, equipped with advanced weaponry, including light machine guns and semi-automatic rifles. They appeared to be planning a large-scale attack, aiming to seize the plantation in one fell swoop.

After Xiao Yi learned the information, his mood became increasingly heavy. He knew that the strength of the two sides was greatly disparate, and a head-on confrontation would undoubtedly be a futile attempt. But he did not give up, constantly thinking about countermeasures in his mind. Suddenly, he had an idea and thought of a risky but possible solution.

Xiao Yi gathered the team members again and said, "We can't just passively take a beating. Although the 'Shadow Blade' is powerful, they also have weaknesses. They covet our planting base simply because they want resources. We can take advantage of this and turn the tables on them." He explained his plan in detail. After listening to it, the team members felt that it was risky, but they were also moved by his courage and wisdom, and expressed their willingness to give it a try.

Soon, a cloud of dust rose in the distance as armored vehicles roared toward the plantation. A mercenary envoy swaggered from his vehicle. His armor, though magnificent, was tarnished by the dust, a stark reflection of his hypocritical nature. A sternly arrogant smile graced the envoy's face, one filled with contempt for the base and a determination to seize it. Behind him followed a group of armed soldiers, their expressions grim, their weapons gleaming coldly in the sunlight, as if ready to reap lives.
