Chapter 835: Fighting Together 44

Xiao Yi stared at the computer screen, his brows furrowed slightly. The air conditioner in the lab was whirring, but it still couldn't dispel the cold sweat oozing from his back. The sky outside the window was a little strange. It was only three o'clock in the afternoon, but it was as dark as evening.

He habitually pushed his glasses up on his nose and tapped away at his keyboard. As a data analyst at the Meteorological Research Institute, his daily job was to monitor various weather data and analyze unusual changes. But today's anomaly made him feel unprecedentedly uneasy.

The curves on the display suddenly fluctuated violently, and the data climbed at an alarming rate. Xiao Yi stood up suddenly, and the chair scraped against the floor with a harsh sound. His fingers trembled slightly as he quickly pulled up the satellite cloud map.

"This is impossible..." he muttered to himself.

On the cloud map, a huge dark red cloud was moving rapidly, covering an area unprecedented in size. Even more bizarrely, this cloud was spinning at an incomprehensible speed, forming a huge vortex.

"Dr. Xiao!" Assistant Xiao Wang rushed into the laboratory in a panic, "Look out the window!"

Xiao Yi quickly walked to the window, and the scene before him made him gasp. The sky had turned completely blood red, and the clouds were spinning at a speed visible to the naked eye, forming a huge vortex. The buildings in the distance looked particularly hideous in the strange red light.

Suddenly, a shrill alarm sounded throughout the institute.

";Emergency notice! Emergency notice! All personnel evacuate immediately! Evacuate immediately!";

Xiao Yi's heart was pounding. He grabbed his coat and rushed out the door. The corridor was in chaos, and his colleagues were running towards the emergency exit in panic. He followed the crowd downstairs, his ears filled with screams.

As soon as he ran to the first floor lobby, a deafening roar came from the sky. Xiao Yi subconsciously looked up and saw a blood-red lightning split the clouds and struck the ground directly. Immediately afterwards, countless similar lightning bolts followed one after another, as if the sky had cracked into countless holes.

"Run!" someone shouted.

Xiao Yi rushed out of the building, and the scene before him froze him in place. The streets were filled with fleeing people, cars were parked in the middle of the road, and horns were honking. Even more terrifying was that where the blood-red lightning struck, the ground began to corrode rapidly, forming one bottomless black hole after another.

"Help! Help!"

Xiao Yi looked in the direction of the sound and saw a little girl trapped in the middle of the road, surrounded by collapsed ground. Her crying was particularly piercing in the chaos.

"Damn it!" Xiao Yi gritted his teeth and rushed towards the little girl. The ground shook violently under his feet, and he could feel the rumbling coming from underground. Every step felt like dancing on the edge of a knife, and he could fall into the abyss at any time.

"Don't be afraid! Uncle is here to save you!" he shouted, carefully avoiding the ever-widening crack. The little girl was so scared that she couldn't speak and just kept sobbing.

Just as Xiao Yi was about to approach the little girl, a loud noise suddenly came from the sky. He looked up and saw a huge meteorite with a blood-red tail falling towards the city.

"Hurry!" He scooped up the little girl, turned, and ran in the opposite direction. A deafening explosion erupted behind him, and the shockwave knocked him to the ground. He instinctively tucked the little girl under him, while gravel and dust rained down on him.

After the aftermath of the explosion passed, Xiao Yi struggled to get up. Looking back, he saw that the place where he had just stood had turned into a huge meteorite crater, with all the surrounding buildings collapsed and thick smoke billowing.

"Uncle, I'm scared..." The little girl clutched the corner of his clothes tightly, tears streaming down her face.

Xiao Yi took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down. He looked around and found an entrance to an underground parking lot not far away.

"Come on, let's hide there." He took the little girl's hand and moved carefully towards the parking lot.

The underground parking lot was pitch black, with only the faint green light of the emergency lights. Xiao Yi took the little girl's hand and walked in carefully. The air was filled with a pungent metallic smell that made his throat itchy.

"Uncle, it's so dark here..." the little girl's voice was filled with tears.

"Don't be afraid, let's find a safe place." Xiao Yi comforted softly, while observing his surroundings vigilantly. The parking lot was full of cars, but there was no one in sight. It was eerily quiet.

Suddenly, the ground shook violently, and Xiao Yi almost lost his balance. He quickly held onto the pillar next to him and held the little girl in his arms. The light bulbs above his head made a shrill sound, and fragments kept falling.

";Boom!";

A loud bang came from the entrance. Xiao Yi looked back and saw that the entrance to the parking lot had been completely blocked by the collapsed building. Dust rushed in his face, choking him and making him cough.

"We are trapped..." the little girl said tremblingly.

Xiao Yi took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down. He took out his mobile phone, but as expected, there was no signal. The green light of the emergency light looked particularly strange in the darkness, casting a long shadow.

"Let's find a safe place first." Xiao Yi said, "What's your name?"
