Xiao Yi took heavy steps and walked slowly alone on the deserted city streets.
The once bustling streets were now hushed and silent. Broken windows stared coldly at him like hollow eyes. Abandoned cars lay dotted along the roadside, their bodies covered in rust and dust.
A foul smell permeated the air, a strong, pungent, and sickening smell, like the smell of death, a mixture of rotting wood, spoiled food, and unspeakable decay.
With every step Xiao Yi took, he could feel this breath following him like a shadow, tightly wrapping around him. The road under his feet was bumpy, piled with garbage and rotten debris, and it would make a creepy sound if he was not careful.
The crumbling buildings lining the streets, their ruins telling of the disaster that had befallen them. An occasional gust of wind, stirring up a cloud of waste paper and dust, swirled through the air, adding to the desolation.
Xiao Yi frowned and covered his mouth and nose with his sleeves, but the foul smell still penetrated his nostrils. His eyes were full of vigilance and sadness. He didn't know what kind of danger and despair was hidden in this desolate city.
Suddenly, a deep roar like muffled thunder rolled in from afar. The sound echoed in the empty and silent city, crashing against the ruins and walls, carrying a chilling deterrent force.
Xiao Yi's originally heavy footsteps stopped instantly, and his heart seemed to be tightly grasped by a cold hand. His pupils contracted sharply, and his breathing became rapid in an instant.
The roar sounded like a call from hell, instantly making him realize that he was in big trouble.
His mind raced, pondering the possible dangers. Was it a horde of zombies? Or some kind of mutated, ferocious monster? Countless terrifying scenarios flashed through his mind, each one enough to put him in a desperate situation.
Xiao Yi's body tensed up involuntarily, his muscles trembling slightly due to tension. He gripped the weapon in his hand tightly, his knuckles turning white due to the force, and cold sweat oozed from his forehead and slid across his tense cheeks.
He pricked up his ears, trying to determine the source and distance of the roar, while vigilantly observing his surroundings, ready to deal with the impending unknown threat.
At the street corner ahead, he saw a group of zombies staggering towards him like demons emerging from a nightmare.
Their figures appeared distorted and terrifying in the dim light. Some zombies had mutilated bodies, exposing their bones; some had faces rotted away, their eyes drooping from their sockets; others had tattered clothing, their bodies stained with dried blood and unidentified stains.
They walked with stiff, uncoordinated steps, each one carrying an eerie rhythm. The shuffling of their feet echoed in the silent street like the drumbeat of death.
The zombies let out low roars, and the sounds mixed together, forming a terrifying wave of sound. Their eyes were dull but full of desire for fresh life, and they locked directly on Xiao Yi's figure.
As they approached, the stench became stronger and stronger, making it almost impossible to breathe. Xiao Yi looked at the approaching zombies, his heart instantly sinking to the bottom, and his brain was rapidly thinking about how to deal with it.
Xiao Yi closed his eyes tightly and took a deep breath, trying to calm his pounding heart. His chest rose and fell with each breath, and the cold air poured into his lungs, causing a stinging pain, but he ignored it.
When he opened his eyes again, the initial panic was gone from his eyes, replaced by determination and calmness. Xiao Yi clenched his teeth, secretly cheered himself up in his heart, and forcibly suppressed all the fear and anxiety.
He stretched his stiff fingers, gripped the weapon tightly, and kept his body in a posture ready to attack at any time.
Xiao Yi narrowed his eyes slightly, carefully observing the movements of the zombies. His brain was working at high speed, thinking about the best response strategy. He adjusted his breathing rhythm, making each breath steady and powerful, as if this could inject more courage and strength into himself.
At this moment, Xiao Yi's body and mind are ready for this fierce battle. He is like a beast about to pounce on its prey. Although he is in danger, he still exudes an aura that cannot be underestimated.
He tightened the gleaming long knife in his hand, the blade reflecting a chilling cold light in the dim light. The heavy weight of the modified submachine gun on his back gave him a sense of security.
Around his waist were hung various homemade weapons, including sharp daggers, strangely shaped darts, and bundles of carefully prepared ammunition. These weapons collided with each other, making a slight jingle, as if telling of the upcoming fierce battle.
His eyes became firm and cold, like the stars in the cold night, cold and bright. There was no hesitation or retreat in his eyes, only the determination to fight and the desire to survive.
He straightened his spine, tilted his head slightly, and stared directly at the approaching zombies, as if to pierce through them with his gaze. Every muscle in his body was tense, every inch of his skin filled with strength and alertness.
Xiao Yi took a deep breath, letting the cold air fill his lungs, feeling the sobriety brought by the coolness. He said to himself silently in his heart: "This is a battle of life and death. Either they die or I die."
At this moment, he has completely entered the combat state, exuding a fearless aura, ready to face this cruel life-and-death battle.
The zombies staggered closer and closer to Xiao Yi. Their twisted and hideous faces became clearer and clearer, their rotting skin crawling with maggots, and their mouths emitting a disgusting breath.
