Chapter 143: Vermicular Splitting (I)
The afterglow of the setting sun once again dyed the abandoned community red, almost no different from that evening a year ago.
The rubble cast long, twisted shadows in the orange light, and the air was thick with the stench of insect monsters.
Xie Mian and E Shifang stood in the center of the ruins, at the place where they had once separated from their brother.
It's been a year.
Xie Mian stood quietly, his eyes sweeping over every inch of the surrounding land.
His expression was as cold as ever, but if you paid a little attention, you could see the joy and anticipation in his eyes.
E Shifang stood beside him, his tall figure blocking half of the wind for him.
Goose Shifang's eyes fell on the box of faded, dirt-stained bear biscuits. It must have been left behind by those children.
"Mianmian, do you want to go see Niuniu and the others?"
Goose Shifang's eyes fell on a little bear biscuit at his feet.
Xie Mian's gaze didn't shift at all, and he said calmly, "No need."
He won't go anywhere until his brother comes.
After saying that, Xie Mian walked to a broken wall, brushed off the dust on it, and sat down.
He just sat there, looking in the direction where Lin Heng left, without blinking.
E Shifang sat down beside him, took out the dried mango from the space, tore open the package, and handed it to Xie Mian's mouth.
Xie Mian didn't open his mouth, just shook his head.
E Shifang sighed and started eating slowly, but his eyes were always on Xie Mian, never leaving for a second.
A day passed.
The sun rose and set, but Lin Heng did not appear.
A week passed.
A gentle drizzle began to fall within the ruins, washing away the dust, which was then quickly dried by the sun. Still, Lin Heng did not appear.
Half a month passed.
Xie Mian still sat in that position every day, from sunrise to sunset. He spoke very little, so little that it almost made E Shifang suspect that his wife had become a mute.
E Shifang stayed with Xie Mian. He had killed all the insect monsters nearby, not even a single insect egg was left.
It's been too long since the agreed time.
Anxiety grew wildly like a vine, tightly strangling Xie Mian's heart.
My brother is definitely not someone who would break his promise, especially to me. He hasn't come yet, unless... unless he's in trouble and can't get out of it.
Northern Base...Fu Ze...
Xie Mian clenched his fists tightly, his nails digging deep into his palms.
He couldn't wait any longer, he had to go find his brother!
"Let's go."
Xie Mian spread his wings and flew into the sky with fluttering butterfly wings.
"To the northern base."
"good."
E Shifang threw away the spicy noodles in his hand and stared at his wife flying into the air. "Honey, how do I get over there?"
It turns out that when he turned into a goose, his wife could hold him. But when he was horizontally more than two meters long, how could his wife hold him?
"Turn back into a goose and I'll hold you."
"Oh, okay!"
Just as the two were about to set off, a shrill roar suddenly came from not far away!
Then came a childish roar!
"Get away! You monsters!"
Goose Shifang stopped transforming into a goose, Xie Mian paused his wings, and they all looked in the direction where the sound came from.
Behind a half-collapsed residential building, a thin figure was seen fighting with a huge mantis.
The mantis's entire body was pitch black, its two sickle-like front legs flashing with cold light, and every time it swung, there was a sound of breaking wind.
The little boy who was confronting it looked only eight or nine years old.
The boy was dirty, his clothes were tattered, and his face was covered with dust and sweat.
Xie Mian's pupils shrank slightly. He knew this boy.
Brother Lin Heng nearly turned into a bug monster while trying to save three children, one of whom was this little boy.
He remembered his name was Little Wolf.
The little wolf is in a precarious situation.
The mantis's level was obviously higher than his, and he could only rely on his agile body to barely dodge.
There were several wounds on his body that were deep enough to see the bone.
Xie Mian stood there in a daze, looking at the insect power displayed by the other party.
"Tangled with thorns!"
The wolf growled and slammed his hands to the ground.
The next second, countless thorny vines broke out of the ground, like living poisonous snakes, instantly wrapping around the mantis monster's limbs, fixing it firmly in place!
The mantis monster roared angrily and struggled hard, its sharp front legs constantly chopping the vines.
"A moment of beauty!"
The boy's face flushed crimson from the overuse of his insect energy, and he roared again, using all his strength.
With him as the center, within a ten-meter radius, the ground instantly blossomed with gorgeous red roses. Rose petals swirled up, transforming into countless razor-sharp blades, showering the trapped mantis monster with them!
The sound of the flower blades cutting into the shell rang out frequently, and dark green juice splashed everywhere.
This familiar insect can...
Xie Mian's body suddenly stiffened, as if struck by lightning.
Heart of Thorns.
This is Brother Lin Heng's insect power! It's an insect power that belongs only to him!
Why?
Why did it appear on Little Wolf? Why would Little Wolf use it?!
Xie Mian's mind went blank, and his heart felt like it was being gripped by a big hand, almost stopping beating.
He stared intently at every move of the little wolf and the roses he had created. A bone-chilling chill rushed from the soles of his feet to his head.
Up ahead, the little wolf's insect energy has reached its limit.
The roses he had induced to grow began to wither rapidly, and the vines grew brittle.
The mantis monster seized the opportunity, let out a sharp scream, and suddenly broke free from the restraints.
Its huge compound eyes locked onto the figure lying on the ground. It raised its coldly shining sickle-like forelegs high in the air and chopped down without mercy!
The little wolf closed his eyes in despair.
"I'm sorry, brother. Syaoran didn't fulfill your request."
The pain did not come, and the expected death did not come.
A barrier with the power of thunder and lightning appeared in front of him, firmly blocking the mantis's fatal attack.
“Clang!”
The mantis's front legs slashed on the barrier and it was instantly burned to ashes.
The little wolf opened his eyes in astonishment and saw two figures standing in front of him.
One man had flying silver hair, while the other was as beautiful as an angel in a cartoon.
Angel? !
Little Wolf thought about the photo that Brother Lin Heng gave him, and his eyes suddenly widened. This was his brother asking him to find someone.
However, the look in this person's eyes frightened him a little, scarier than the insect monster, because he was looking at him with an incomprehensible, icy gaze.
