Chapter 64 The Key to All Insects (Part 7)

Chapter 64 The Key to All Insects (Part 7)

The car headed north to the northern base.

The Northern Base was north of the Jackdaw River. Initially, the terrain was flat, with desolate meadows and scattered shrubs along the way. The further north we went, the lower the temperature, the more low the wilderness turned into low hills, and the cold wind blew gravel against the car windows, making them clang.

Even if we travel day and night, it will take half a month to arrive.

Xie Mian woke up in the early morning of the next day.

Perhaps due to the absorption of the healing insect stone, he did not feel any discomfort. Instead, he felt comfortable all over and even had a sense of satisfaction.

At this time, the night sky was dotted with cold stars and a crescent silver moon hung high in the sky.

Goose Shifang has turned back into the appearance of a big goose, sitting on the seat with his round body.

Its snow-white wings gently embraced Xie Mian, protecting him by its side. Whenever the car bumped, it would tighten its wings to prevent Xie Mian from being thrown off.

"Gah!"

Seeing Xie Mian wake up, the tears in E Shifang's eyes finally fell, and he felt very aggrieved.

How could Xie Mian not know what he was thinking? He just felt that he was cheating on him.

"Okay, stop crying. Isn't this all you?"

"Quack, quack, quack, quack!"

How can it be me? I don’t even have any memories, it doesn’t count!!

The more he thought about it, the more wronged he felt. E Shifang wished he could cut his other self into pieces.

I also hate myself for being a goose. It would not be impossible for me to be a snake.

Xie Mian suddenly felt cold all over and had a chill.

He moved his arms slightly to shake off the discomfort, then lifted E Shifang's head with both hands, pecked it lightly and said:

"Be good and don't be angry."

"Haha!" Okay!

The three of them had a safe journey.

Perhaps due to the increasingly cold climate, the further north one travels, the fewer insect monsters there are. The few insect monsters one encounters are dealt with by E Shifang or Yang Shu.

During this period, Yang Shu also learned to absorb insect stones, and his insect energy continued to increase.

"The climate here is...wrong."

Xie Mian stared out the car window, frowning slightly.

He remembered that when he traveled here with his brother, although it was winter, there were still large areas of cedars and cold-resistant shrubs growing tenaciously along the way.

But now, though it was summer, outside the window was a dead, desolate wasteland—the ground was covered in frozen, white dirt, with patches of ice here and there. Those hardy weeds and shrubs that used to grow cold were nowhere to be seen, and all that was left was the icy wind that whistled across my face like a knife.

When I saw my brother on TV a month ago, he was still wearing a thin shirt and trousers. The weather then was definitely not like it is now.

Since when did this place become like this?

Is it the weather or the bugs?

In the car, Xie Mian and Yang Shu also put on thick cotton coats.

Xie Mian was wrapped in a dark gray thick parka with the fur collar standing up to cover half of his face, and he was wearing a pair of high-top snow-proof snow boots; Yang Shu was wearing a bulging army green cotton coat and a leather hat on his head.

Although E Shifang was not afraid of the cold, he also took out a green scarf from the space and tied it around his neck to suit the occasion.

Seeing that E Shifang had so many colorful scarves but chose a green one instead, Xie Mian knew that this guy was up to no good.

Sure enough, after I tied my scarf, this guy raised his head, tilted his neck slightly, and said in a teasing voice:

"Look, honey~ I put on a little green scarf specially for you~ so you won't want to cuckold me, right~"

Xie Mian's mouth twitched, and with a cold expression, he grabbed the scarf and pulled the goose towards him:

"If you keep talking, we'll have goose stewed in an iron pot tonight!"

E Shifang was flapping his wings and about to argue when the car suddenly braked and four fully armed soldiers stood in front of the windshield.

They were wearing gray-white snow camouflage combat uniforms, with frost on their cold-proof masks. Their exposed eyes were bloodshot, and they looked tired but still alert.

The leading soldier was thin, his combat uniform looking empty. He knocked mechanically on the car window, his breath forming a mist on the bulletproof glass.

"Get out of the car! Get checked."

His voice was hoarse and dry, as if he hadn't had a proper drink of water for a long time.

Although the other three soldiers maintained their tactical positions, it was obvious that their movements were a little slow. One of them even touched his shriveled abdomen unconsciously.

"How... did you get through the frozen area?"

The captain of the soldiers knocked the barrel of his rifle against the roof of the car, his frostbitten fingers trembling slightly on the trigger guard. "With just the two of you... you can't break through the frozen zone..."

Xie Mian pushed open the car door, and the cold air immediately rushed into his collar.

He frowned and asked, "Frozen zone?"

The captain stared at him, as if trying to determine if he was pretending to be stupid. After a moment, he spoke in a hoarse voice, "You really don't know?"

He raised his hand and pointed north. "Half a month ago, a cold wave suddenly hit, bringing a sharp drop in temperature. Even the insect monsters mutated. They can now move even faster beneath the ice, their shells coated in ice armor. We call them the 'Frozen Zone Insect Swarm.'"

He coughed twice, and the white breath he exhaled quickly condensed into frost:

"Thirty kilometers south of the base is their hunting ground... How on earth did you manage to make it here alive?"

Xie Mian remained silent and did not answer. He himself did not know why he could cross the frozen area.

At this moment, a young soldier suddenly leaned over the car window, staring straight at E Shifang, his Adam's apple rolling:

"Captain! It's a goose! A live goose!"

His voice trembled with hunger.

"Shut up!"

The captain shouted, his cracked lips trembling slightly.

Xie Mian turned around and opened the trunk, then took out the food that had been put in from the space in advance - some bread, ham, and mineral water.

He distributed the food to several soldiers one by one. The soldiers took it with trembling hands covered with frostbite, their faces full of disbelief.

"The captain is bread, bread... and ham."

One of the youngest team members said tremblingly.

He looked at the captain inquiringly, his fingers carefully pinching the package.

"Eat it."

The captain looked at his brothers who had not eaten for many days and closed his eyes.

The next second, the sound of tearing packaging bags came one after another.

One soldier stuffed the compressed biscuits directly into his mouth, and the crumbs mixed with blood fell from the cracked corners of his mouth; another soldier held a bottle of mineral water and gulped it down, not even noticing that the water flowed down his chin and into his collar.

Their Adam's apples rolled wildly, and their hands, with dirt under their nails, trembled constantly.

The captain swallowed, turned his back, and carefully hid the food he was given in his chest pocket.

I have to take this food back. Lao Zhang fainted twice from hypoglycemia, and Xiao Wang secretly ate paper last night...
