Qinghe frowned as he looked at the food in front of him. He divided a large portion of the food into smaller pieces, leaving only a small amount that was not even as big as his palm. He looked at the other students and said, "These are all non-mutated."
"That's all?" A girl with long, golden-haired hair frowned as she looked at the handful of vegetables in Qinghe's hand. "This isn't enough for me."
Hearing the blonde girl's words, a tall, thin boy with pigtails next to her also looked depressed. "That dish isn't enough for anyone. Zhang Lili, did you sneak in to eat outside?"
Zhang Lili was furious when she heard the tall, skinny boy say that to her. "Tang Jiacheng, stop stirring up trouble here. I risked my life to find food and was nearly caught by the Self-Defense Forces, and you actually accused me of cheating! Next time, go find food on your own."
Zhang Lili looked at several people angrily. They all avoided her gaze and avoided the quarrel between her and Tang Jiacheng.
"Why can't I doubt you? We haven't had enough to eat for several days, but you still have the energy to go out and find food. How do you still have the energy if you haven't been stealing food outside?" Tang Jiacheng's words were well-reasoned.
Zhang Lili felt like she was about to explode with anger, but the other three girls actually looked like they agreed. Some even looked at Zhang Lili with unfriendly expressions, as if they suspected she was cheating on them.
"She's been wronged!" Zhang Lili thought sadly. She'd grown up in the mountains, accustomed to starvation, and two or three days without a meal was commonplace. Even a small amount of food would allow her to quickly recover and find other food. She came to study in Country J, sponsored by a kind-hearted individual. If it weren't for the sense of being a fellow countryman, she wouldn't have cared about these pampered classmates from the beginning. These days, they'd almost always found their own food.
Tang Jiacheng looked at Zhang Lili, whose face had turned purple and she couldn't utter a word for a long time. Instead, he started to gloat, "See, I was right. You must have eaten a lot outside, otherwise why wouldn't you be able to say a word?"
She was about to explode with anger, but the angrier she got, the harder it was for her to open her mouth.
Zhang Lili glared at these people angrily. How could these people be such bastards!
"Lily, where did you find the food? If you're tired, we can go out with you next time." Seeing the situation getting increasingly tense, one of the girls stood up, trying to lighten the mood. She was the unluckiest person, having come here to relax and unwind, only to stumble upon the apocalypse. If she hadn't run into these foreign students, she might have starved to death. These past few days, they'd been hiding from zombies, but most importantly, from the Self-Defense Forces.
Therefore, she knew that finding food outside wouldn't be easy. However, she also felt that Zhang Lili must have eaten her fill before going out to find food. This was human nature, and she had done nothing wrong.
Zhang Lili looked at the young lady she had rescued and nodded. "Sister Ouyang, I'll take you there next time."
"Okay, we still had some food yesterday. Let's quickly find a way to cook these and eat them. Otherwise, we'll be in trouble if those people find out." As Ouyang Gang finished speaking, he saw Tang Jiacheng and the remaining two girls immediately start working and cook the vegetables in boiling water.
"Sister Ouyang, don't you want to eat?" Zhang Lili looked at Ouyang who was standing aside, and she didn't seem hungry.
Ouyang shook her head. "The food around here is getting scarce..." She stopped mid-sentence. How could they find food? This question became increasingly uncertain. Even if Chen Lili had hidden some food, it certainly wouldn't be much. She was more worried about the fact that more and more food was mutating. Did this mean their living conditions were becoming increasingly difficult?
"Yeah, not only are there few, but there aren't even any animals or birds. I can't even catch one," Chen Lili lamented. "When can we go home?" She really wanted to go back. At least in those mountains, she was sure she'd find enough to eat. Leaving Country J like this seemed like a shame for the kind money she'd received for her tuition. But she was starving. She was starving. She was starving. She was starving.
"Don't dwell on such sad things. If I find a chance to return home, I'll definitely take you with me. But thinking about it now won't help." Ouyang nearly burst into tears as she thought of her motherland and her home. She took a deep breath, forced back the tears, and patted Chen Lili on the back. "Let's go out and find some food while there's still some light."
