After the tent was set up, they replanned their next steps.
Xu Xuening looked at the schedule in her hand. Everyone had a form with all kinds of incomprehensible names written on it.
"I'll send you another set of species maps later. It will have detailed descriptions of the plants and animals. These plants and animals are what we need to pick this time. It's a lot of information, so please pay attention."
Soon, copies of species illustrations as thick as dictionaries were distributed to everyone, and many soldiers who never liked to have anything to do with words turned pale.
"Even reciting the code of discipline every day is better than this!"
Someone took the thick species dictionary and hit his head with it, trying to knock himself out and get away with it.
"Don't smash it! Take care of this thing quickly, or you'll just pull up weeds." The botany professor looked at the ignorant children in front of him. He knew that he should strongly request that he be given students. He didn't know if it was too late to teach these children now.
He took a deep breath and started the field investigation with several other experimental assistants.
In the open space, Xu Xuening and several other people set up a big pot, took out bags of simple food, mixed them with wild vegetables picked today, and threw them into the pot.
Soon, a pot of fragrant soup wafted out, cheering everyone up.
"Xiao Xu, what are you cooking? It smells so good!" The old professor, squatting in the field nearby, carefully extracting a mutant plant with scissors, caught a whiff of something he had never smelled before. It had the delicate fragrance of herbs, but also a rich aroma like mutton cooking in a broth. These two aromas made even those who had been busy all day feel hungry.
The old professor simply put down the work in his hands and walked over to see Xu Xuening stirring the soup in the iron pot with a large spoon.
Seeing the old professor staring at the soup pot without blinking, Xu Xuening smiled and added more fire under the pot.
"Professor, this isn't meat. It's the non-toxic mushroom you just mentioned. It doesn't look very big, but when you put it in the pot and slowly add heat, it grows a lot bigger. Professor, is this also caused by mutation?"
Professor Yang blinked and said, "That's the mushroom we eat!"
He watched the mushroom floating in the soup pot, and the strange smell became stronger.
"It seems we've found a solution to the food crisis. When I gave it to you, I thought it wasn't combined with the virus. It wouldn't harm the human body. However, I didn't expect it to grow so large. It seems like it's not just the virus that's affecting us."
Professor Yang, who is in charge of botanical research, instructed Xu Xuening to pick out a piece of mushroom for him. Looking at the piece of mushroom in the palm of his hand, he carefully tore it open with tweezers and looked at the structure inside.
Because some of the heat from the soup pot was still hidden in the mushrooms, when Professor Yang tore open the mushrooms, he saw the cells inside the mushrooms growing rapidly in a circle.
"This one has grown a little bigger. Xiao Xu, stop for a moment." Professor Yang looked at the mushroom that was constantly growing and felt as if he had discovered something strange.
"chestnut"
"Hey, professor, you're looking for me." The experimenter following the professor rushed over, holding a glass bottle filled with green liquid in his hand.
"Go, step on another mushroom and bring it over." Professor Yang walked to the tent where the experimental equipment was installed with the mushroom in his hand.
Ten minutes later, the experimenter who went to pick mushrooms also rushed into the tent like a gust of wind.
Half an hour later, the water in the pot outside had been added twice, but there was still no movement from the people in the tent.
"This...can we still eat?" Han Xiaoxiao moved closer to Xu Xuening, took a deep breath, and sniffed the fragrant aroma wafting from the pot.
"Don't worry, the results should be out soon." The soldier with good hearing had already heard the professor's discussion in the tent. That mushroom was not a special case. After the other mushrooms were picked, they were proven to have the ability to grow by heat.
If this were the case during the hot summer, a lot would be produced without any effort. This was good news for them who were in urgent need of food.
Soon, the professor came in happily holding the mushrooms and looked at everyone gathered around the big iron pot. "Everyone, this may be the most important thing we found on this trip."
"Xiaohan, come here and roast it with the fire."
The professor placed the mushroom on a stone, and everyone stared at the mushroom on the stone.
Han Xiaoxiao looked helplessly at the pot of cooked soup next to her, muttering in her heart, "Can't I finish my meal first before working? I haven't even had a sip of water all day, and I'm just waiting for this meal."
Although he was helpless, he still walked to the stone, started a fire, and planned to burn the mushroom into ashes so that everyone could eat in peace.
"Don't burn the mushrooms, burn them to the side and use the heat to bake them." The professor reminded Han Xiaoxiao as if he had telepathy.
"I know!" Han Xiaoxiao shouted in a long voice.
The fire burned slowly on the rocks, and mushrooms that continuously absorbed the heat began to grow before everyone's eyes.
Soon, a complete mushroom appeared in front of everyone again.
"Treasure Mushroom." Someone exclaimed in amazement as he watched the mushroom grow from nothing to something.
"No, it's like cloning mushrooms."
"I don't care if it's a cloned mushroom or a cornucopia. I just want to know, can we eat?"
"Professor, can we eat now?"
