Chapter 143 Soil

She had experienced a similar situation before, where she was almost cooked because of her escape and hunger.

Now, that feeling is back again.

She suddenly stood up and looked around vigilantly. The wind seemed to have stopped. None of the surrounding plants, tall trees, low bushes, weeds lurking on the ground, and tender green buds were moving.

There was no wind and no movement.

Xu Xuening stood in the middle with a vigilant look, slowly turning around and looking 360 degrees in all directions.

Han Xiaoxiao was taking a big bite of a chicken leg when she saw Sister Xue Ning's familiar gaze.

He immediately put down the chicken leg and looked around. After such a long period of cooperation, he was already familiar with what Sister Xue Ning's expression meant.

"Xiao Han, what's wrong?" Professor Yang saw that Han Xiaoxiao suddenly stopped eating and stopped talking and working with them, so the old professor immediately asked with concern.

"There's movement, something's wrong." Han Xiaoxiao explained briefly before holding his breath. He strained to sense movement around him, scanning the surrounding area, eager to quickly locate the object that had made them feel dangerous. Before he stabbed, he'd sensed something moving towards them. It wasn't the black object; that had vanished before them. But it didn't give Han Xiaoxiao that familiar feeling either.

He originally thought that he was being too suspicious, but when he saw Sister Xue Ning had the same reaction, he realized that it was not that he was being too suspicious, but that something really existed.

Click

A faint sound was heard, so inconspicuous among the other sounds, but it was caught by two people.

One is the person with evolved hearing, and the other is Xu Xuening.

She lowered her head slightly and looked at the sand beneath her feet.

"Sister Xue Ning?" Han Xiaoxiao saw Xu Xue Ning suddenly lower her head to look at her feet. He couldn't figure out what was going on.

However, watching her movements made him feel a sense of panic for no apparent reason. It was as if Xu Xuening would disappear from his sight at any moment, as if she was about to say goodbye to him by lowering her head.

"No!"

Han Xiaoxiao rushed out without thinking, and when he pounced on her, it was too late.

Xu Xuening stood in front of them and looked back at them. Suddenly, thick smoke rose around her. The black smoke came out of the ground, as if the soil around her was all on fire, and something was burning under the sand. The billowing smoke surrounded Xu Xuening in the middle.

Xu Xuening looked at Han Xiaoxiao in surprise. She wanted to reach out, but she felt the ground shaking beneath her feet.

"sister!!!"

Han Xiaoxiao watched Xu Xuening being carried down to the ground by the thick smoke and sand.

Surrounded by smoke, he wanted to rush into the billowing smoke, but was pulled back by Professor Yang next to him, "What are you doing?"

"Let me go, I want to save my sister." Han Xiaoxiao wanted to rush in excitedly.

"If you go in at this time, you will be seeking death. It's very dangerous, you can't go in." Professor Yang grabbed Han Xiaoxiao tightly.

Han Xiaoxiao could no longer hear any sound. He only knew that Xu Xuening had completely disappeared before his eyes. She was the person who had treated him best after his mother's death. He couldn't just abandon her like that.

"Let me go." Han Xiaoxiao was like a mad dog, his eyes red. His hands and feet were held by someone, and his neck was swollen with blood vessels from struggling to break free.

"Bang!" The tall captain walked over and knocked Han Xiaoxiao unconscious.

Professor Yang breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Han Xiaoxiao who had passed out in a coma, and wiped the sweat from his head with his sleeve.

"You guys keep an eye on this kid, don't let him jump."

After Professor Yang finished his analysis, he stood up, brushed off the sand on his body, and moved closer to where Xu Xuening disappeared.

The moment Xu Xuening disappeared, a huge, invincible pit appeared there. But within two minutes, the huge pit that had suddenly appeared seemed to have been filled in, leaving only yellow sand and nothing else.

If the big rock next to Xu Xuening also disappeared, they might all doubt whether there was anyone here.

"Xiao Duo,"

"Call Xiaoduo over, I want to ask him something." Professor Yang said.

"Professor, you called me?" Duomu stood in front of the professor.

"Here," the professor pointed to the desert where Xu Xuening disappeared, "what did you have here before?"

Duomu looked around and shook his head. "There's nothing here. There haven't been any plants in this area for a long time. It was either after the apocalypse or when I was a kid that the mountain became bare. Although there are no plants, there certainly isn't anything new either. Professor, what do you want to ask?"

Duomu looked at Professor Yang curiously.

"Are you sure there is nothing here?" Professor Yang asked again. He asked Duomu again and again, trying to dig out some useful things from Duomu's memory.

Duomu shook his head.

"Reservoir, basement, anything is fine!" Professor Yang reminded him.

Duomu shook his head firmly, "I'm sure there's nothing here, Professor. Where would the reservoir come from? There's a small stream not far away. People in our village don't need a reservoir at all. Even the well at home is enough." Duomu laughed when he heard Professor Yang's guess. As soon as he laughed, he thought of the disappeared Miss Xu, and immediately covered his mouth to suppress the curve of his lips.
