Chapter 23: First Encounter with Zombies

Because Duan Wei saw through Wei Zizhou's encirclement on Laotianqiao Street, Xu Xuening decided to go alone for Xiaohai's safety.

He refused everyone's offer to follow him, and at Wei Zizhou's strong request, he only wore a positioning signal tracker on his body.

Xu Xuening stepped on the accelerator and drove directly onto the Third Ring Road at high speed. Soon, she arrived at the place designated by Duan Wei.

There were still more than two hours before the agreed time, and Xu Xuening looked up at the Wangzuo International Building.

Therefore, due to various reasons of the developer, the construction of the International Building was stopped when the overall frame of the building was almost completed.

"You beast!" Xu Xuening yelled at Duan Wei, "Xiao Hai shouldn't have a father like you."

The building was drafty on all sides, with no roof or windows. It looked like a post-earthquake disaster site, a place even beggars wouldn't bother visiting. Besides, beggars these days earned more than regular workers, had good food and drink, and got off work on time. They wouldn't mind staying in a drafty, run-down building like this.

Xu Xuening looked around. The densely packed buildings here were like an urban forest, with tall and low apartment houses surrounding this leaky, unfinished building.

The mixed population of urban dwellers and migrant workers lived in residential areas built with paper-thin walls, the thickness of which seemed to be a coin. A slight cough could be clearly heard by the neighbor next door. Open a window and you could reach out to the window next door.

"You beast!" Xu Xuening yelled at Duan Wei, "Xiao Hai shouldn't have a father like you."

In order to greet the rising sun tomorrow and gather their energy for the next day's work, the city men, women, young and old who live in these small cubicles have already fallen asleep.

At eleven o'clock in the evening, the lights began to gradually go out, and a few scattered lights were still on, reflecting the struggle in endless homework.

Three hours passed slowly.

Almost all the lights went out, leaving only a few street lamps and advertising lights that were always on.

Wei Zizhou leaned forward slightly. He knew that the person who called Lao Chen was Lao Chen's boss. It was said that the other party's family had deep roots here.

Xu Xuening looked around, tore off the white seal, pushed open the door, and stepped into the territory of the unfinished building.

The light from the billboard outside the building next door illuminated the steps under her feet.

Climbing up the rough concrete steps step by step, the house without even a guardrail looks as empty as a parking lot.

Fourteenth floor

It sounds like an unlucky number.

In order to greet the rising sun tomorrow and gather their energy for the next day's work, the city men, women, young and old who live in these small cubicles have already fallen asleep.

Xu Xuening walked up and looked at a black figure standing in the middle of the empty building.

Xie Yan took a look and said, "Okay, come with me, we'll sneak in quietly and rescue Miss Xu."

Duan Wei stood there quietly looking at her.

"You're here on time." Duan Wei looked behind Xu Xuening.

"Where's Xiaohai?" Xu Xuening looked around Duan Wei, but did not see the child, and did not even hear any crying. She felt inexplicably nervous.

"Why are you in such a hurry? Where are your people?" Duan Wei continued to ask. He wanted to make sure that he could get 5 million this time.

"I'm asking you, where is Xiaohai?" Xu Xuening couldn't see Xiaohai, and her tone revealed anxiety unnaturally.

"I said, if those people follow you, you will never see Xiao Hai again in your life." Duan Wei said confidently.

Carrying a thick metal box, Xu Xuening walked to a place five meters away from Duan Wei. She squatted down and opened the box, and piles of hundred-yuan bills appeared in front of Duan Wei.

Those banknotes lay quietly in the box, but at this moment they were like balls of golden light flashing before his eyes.

When Duan Wei saw the box, his eyes immediately widened, even wider than those of a wild cat looking for food at night.

5 million, if he were to rely on his current actions, how long would it take him to achieve it?

If you are an ordinary person, you may choose to settle down in this city honestly, work from dawn to dusk, save money bit by bit, and after twenty years, you can always make one or two million.

Xie Yan looked at Wei Zizhou and asked, "Who are you?"

But he doesn't.

When Duan Wei married Xu Xuening, he wanted to save himself 30 years of hard work. Now that things have come to this, it is even more so.

Looking at the 5 million face, he simply opened a large black luggage bag next to him. Xiao Hai, who was nestled in the bag, was snoring quietly.

Xie Yan looked at Wei Zizhou and asked, "Who are you?"

"Xiao Hai!"

Xu Xuening immediately let out a low cry.

Without thinking twice, he ran towards Xiaohai.

Xu Xuening immediately let out a low cry.

Seeing that the child couldn't wake up no matter how much he shook him, Xu Xuening yelled at Duan Wei.

"What did you do to Xiao Hai?"

Duan Wei touched the money in the box, looked at it excitedly, and answered her casually, "I just fed him some sleeping pills. Don't worry, he won't die."

"You beast!" Xu Xuening yelled at Duan Wei, "Xiao Hai shouldn't have a father like you."

Hearing Xu Xuening's ridicule, Duan Wei was not angry at all. With a strange smile on his face, he nodded and continued, "That's right, I don't have a son like that little bastard. Xu Xuening, I've been cuckolded for two years. For the sake of these 5 million, I have to tell you that when you were pregnant with that little bastard, I didn't touch you at all."
