"I... let me out, I didn't mean to hurt you."
Through the narrow cracks inside the cold storage, a chilling sound came again.
This time, Xu Xing was extremely cautious, and once again, he slowly approached, knife in hand.
If it weren't for the cold storage steel barrier, he really wouldn't have dared to turn back. He probably would have run away the moment he sensed danger.
Perhaps because the cold storage door was closed again, the surrounding cold air gradually dissipated, leaving only some residual ice crystals.
"Are you conscious now?" Xu Xing asked softly.
His eyes were fixed on the cold storage door, fearing the slightest mistake.
"Great, brother. So you weren't gone. Of course I'm conscious." The half-human, half-corpse monster inside seemed to have regained consciousness.
The voice now has gradually become more vibrant compared to when it was hoarse and awkward, as if it has become familiar with the language again.
As the monster spoke, it pried open the cold storage door with its hands. Its long, sharp fingernails made an extremely piercing and unpleasant noise when they touched the metal, giving off a chilling feeling.
Because the power had been cut off long ago, the interior of the cold storage room was completely dark in the enclosed environment without any lighting.
Perhaps it was the darkness that instilled fear in it, or perhaps it was the anxiety that filled its heart; the monster, neither human nor corpse, grew even stronger.
Gradually, the monster went from scratching with its fingernails to repeatedly ramming the door with its fists and body.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The continuous sounds reached Xu Xing's ears, and feeling the immense power, even he felt a little uneasy.
"Damn, what kind of monster is this? Its power is probably comparable to that of a level four mutated beast."
"Die! Die! Die!! Everyone must die! I'm so hungry, is there any fresh meat to be delivered to my door, this damned door!"
The creature inside began to ramble incoherently, its tone filled with anxiety, anger, and a kind of hysterical madness.
Xu Xing felt a chill run down his spine. The abnormal behavior of the monster before him clearly indicated that another zombie personality had taken over.
He waited there for a while, about two or three minutes.
Perhaps the monster was tired, and its zombie personality began to fade away. After a long while, a normal human voice rang out again.
"Brother, are you still there? It's so dark here, I'm so scared."
After saying that, he knocked on the door twice.
Instantly, tiny ice crystals began to seep out from the crack in the door.
"You...don't you remember what you just did?" Xu Xing said slowly, his eyes full of curiosity and questions.
"Just now? What happened just now? Oh right, I heard you coming just now." Its voice was a mix of confusion and excitement.
It was puzzled because it didn't know why Xu Xing had asked those questions.
The exciting thing is that Xu Xing is still here, not left alone in the darkness.
It seems that, at least for now, the memories of these two personalities of the monster are not interconnected, and there is no distinction between them in terms of superiority or inferiority.
The form it had previously observed resembled an intermediate state between the two, which it might not be able to control given its current strength.
Having understood these things, Xu Xing didn't harbor much hostility towards its human side, and instead asked:
"May I have your name?"
"My name is Liu Changqing. I just graduated from university this year. Brother, are you going to rescue me?"
Xu Xing dared not release Liu Changqing now; if Liu Changqing's mortal nature were to erupt, it would be difficult for him to escape.
Xu Xing said, "Liu Changqing, you may not understand the current situation. Try to feel your physical condition first."
Upon hearing this, Liu Changqing had some questions, but still twisted his body from side to side and jumped around a bit in the darkness.
This attempt proved disastrous; during the jump, his head hit the ceiling directly with a loud thud.
"Is this...is this still me? How did I become so powerful?" Liu Changqing's voice began to tremble.
"This is you. This world is completely different from the one you once knew. Your experience can be called lucky, or it can be called unlucky..."
Xu Xing earnestly recounted the common knowledge he had accumulated since the apocalypse, as well as his understanding of the effects and causes of Liu Changqing's special physique.
After a long silence, Liu Changqing said, "So, I'm no longer human?"
“No, you’re still half human,” Xu Xing continued. “Don’t give up on yourself. You already have the foundation to surpass 99% of living beings. Your only weakness is that you can’t control your body.”
These points formed the basis for Xu Xing's decision to communicate with it.
These conversations weren't all nonsense; the key was to build a sufficient friendship with Liu Changqing, showing his human side.
"Alright, since it has already happened, I can only accept it. I have a feeling that I cannot control the other demon inside my body."
Whether he comes out or not depends on my mental state. If I get a little anxious or angry, I might unleash that demon. "Liu Changqing said dejectedly.
"Actually, based on what you just said, I did discover something in common with you people with superpowers. I also have superpowers, and it seems that I can control the temperature around me at will."
But right now, all I can do is cool it down; that's all.
Xu Xing smiled to himself, thinking, "No wonder Liu Changqing was able to control the surrounding ice so quickly back then; he had such a special ability."
"Can you let me out now? I'm really afraid of the dark." Liu Changqing sat on the ground, helplessly playing with his fingernails.
