Chapter 40: Contempt
Jiang Xin's head was buzzing with excitement from what they said.
She has always liked quietness and doesn't like overly noisy environments.
So, even if she wanted to come here to shop for clothes today, she just wanted to shop alone in peace and quiet.
When you see clothes you like, you can buy them directly.
The service of the sales clerks in the department store was indeed very enthusiastic, but for someone like her who liked quietness, it was simply a torture.
These sales clerks were talking to each other, exposing each other's shortcomings.
The purpose is to attract Jiang Xin, who may be a potential big customer, to his own hands.
They even quarreled over Jiang Xin.
Jiang Xin stood among a group of sales clerks, feeling extremely overwhelmed.
After all, this was the first time she had seen such a scene. Not only was she not used to it, she even felt a little annoyed.
Jiang Xin held her forehead helplessly, wondering, in this day and age, are all salespeople so enthusiastic?
This was her first time here, and she didn't know what the situation was like here.
Maybe if someone else was treated like this, they would feel that they were being warmly entertained and would feel very happy?
Jiang Xin didn't move, just thought silently.
Of course, she had no idea why these salespeople were so eager to get her.
From the way she dresses, you can tell that her family conditions seem to be pretty good.
Because even in the town, there are very few residents who dress as fashionably as Jiang Xin.
Generally speaking, people wear plain and old-fashioned clothes.
Not to mention the style, there isn't even a pattern. Usually, people buy cloth at home, find a tailor, or make it themselves.
Not only is the fabric rough, the color is generally very simple, with little embroidery and mostly blue.
People like Jiang Xin, who was wearing shiny new clothes, not only did the fabric look very exquisite and the colors were bright, but even those of them who had been selling clothes in department stores all year round had never seen such beautiful clothes.
The residents of this town usually only come here to buy clothes on special occasions, such as engagements or weddings.
Normally, few people would be willing to spend such a large sum of money. After all, the prices of things sold in their department store are really not cheap.
A dress can easily cost twenty or thirty dollars, which is almost as much as half a month's salary for an average person. How could anyone be willing to spend that much?
People who work in the sales industry are generally shrewd and know how to judge people and how to serve them.
Seeing that Jiang Xin was the kind of person who had no shortage of money, he naturally had to seize the opportunity and let her improve his performance.
Of course, Jiang Xin didn’t understand any of this.
Her original purpose of coming to the department store was just to buy two pairs of trousers.
The shop assistants started arguing with each other.
Jiang Xin felt annoyed and had a headache when she saw this.
She looked up and around, and saw that there were still many customers hanging around.
So, she really didn't understand why these salespeople were chasing after her.
Could it be that it’s because I look richer?
Jiang Xin thought about it and thought that these salespeople were probably the type who would treat people differently based on their appearance. She said expressionlessly:
"I'm sorry, my clothes got dirty when I went out today, so I'm wearing my colleague's clothes."
"I have to come to your mall to buy some clothes to change out of this one. After all, my colleagues told me that this dress is quite expensive. I'm afraid if it gets damaged or dirty, I won't be able to pay it back."
"Since you are all so enthusiastic, can you recommend me the cheapest clothes in your store?"
"I don't have much money in my pocket, only ten or eight yuan. I can afford anything more expensive!"
After Jiang Xin finished speaking, she looked up at the salespeople who were arguing fiercely for her.
Sure enough, everything was just as Jiang Xin had imagined.
After hearing what she said, the faces of those sales clerks who had been very attentive to her suddenly changed faster than turning pages of a book, from enthusiasm at the beginning to contempt now.
There were even a few sales clerks who raised their heads haughtily, looked down on her, and sneered at her.
Jiang Xin raised her eyebrows. In just a few seconds, the expressions of these sales clerks were more realistic than those of professional actors.
There was also a salesperson who looked incredulous. He looked at Jiang Xin from head to toe and felt that she should not be without money.
They were all shocked by what Jiang Xin said.
No one answered Jiang Xin's question or introduced her to the cheapest clothes.
Jiang Xin simply opened her mouth again and asked the salespersons:
"What's wrong? Why aren't you talking? Weren't you so enthusiastic just now?"
"I only have a dozen dollars in my pocket right now. Can anyone recommend me some cheap clothes? Let me take a look?"
This time, as soon as Jiang Xin finished speaking, the sales clerks who were still in a daze just now came back to their senses.
Several of the more experienced and older sales clerks immediately regained their dazed expressions.
After hearing Jiang Xin's words, she curled her lips and said to Jiang Xin with a look of contempt:
"She was dressed like a decent lady, and I thought she was a rich lady, but she turned out to be a bumpkin."
"What a waste of my time. I thought I could do something big, but this is all I get?"
That salesperson was the one who had behaved most enthusiastically when greeting Jiang Xin just now.
As a result, after hearing Jiang Xin say that she had no money, they fell out the fastest.
The tone of her voice was extremely unfriendly. After she finished speaking, she turned around and left without even entertaining Jiang Xin.
Jiang Xin had a blank expression on her face and didn't care at all.
She wished that no one would come to entertain her so that she could go around by herself.
After one of the salespeople turned around and left, the salespeople who had originally surrounded Jiang Xin also left one by one.
In the end, the only person standing next to Jiang Xin, waiting to greet her, was a young girl who looked to be in her twenties, and who looked very honest.
He was not very old, and like the other salesmen, he was wearing work clothes. It looked like he was new and had only been working there for a short time.
