Chapter 125 Tsunami

"We were right, it was a tsunami."

Jiang Li steadied himself and said.

The group looked heavily out of the car, and soon, without even using binoculars, they saw the giant waves growing higher and closer.

The others at the base also noticed, and an older man shouted incoherently in fright.

"A tsunami! It's a tsunami!"

Jiang Li took out his binoculars again and saw the giant waves rapidly attacking the cities and villages on the shore, instantly submerging them.

With an emergency stop, Jiang Li swayed, but Gu Jin immediately caught her. The car stopped, and everyone quickly got out.

Shi Lin parked his car on the base's city wall, on the other side from where the tsunami was coming from. The group had discussed beforehand where they would be safest to go if a tsunami really happened.

The city walls have surrounded the base. The top of the city walls is definitely the highest point. No one will come here because there are no stairs or anything like that to go up. At this time, everyone will definitely run to the rooftops, and no one will notice them.

When no one was looking, Jiang Li put the car into his spatial storage, then took out the wall-climbing tools that the others had made earlier and handed them to everyone.

After receiving the goods, the group quickly climbed up the city wall. From a distance, they looked like geckos climbing upwards.

If they don't hurry, it might be too late. The tsunami is bigger than they expected, and they don't know what the scene will be like when they get to the base.

Jiang Li and his group had already climbed some distance when someone at the base finally came to their senses.

"Quick, climb up!"

"Don't just stand there, climb up now!"

These shouts finally brought everyone back to reality. Those who hadn't reacted yet rushed into the building and scrambled to the rooftop.

"Run! Run, run!"

If you have family or friends, and they see that your family members haven't realized what's happening yet, they'll pull them up with them to climb up.

When danger struck, everyone was in complete chaos.

"Everyone, don't panic! Take care of the elderly and children, and run upstairs in an orderly manner. Don't hurt anyone!"

Zhang Qingshan discovered that many elderly people at the base planned not to leave, not wanting to burden their families.

"Men, two men together, support the elderly and children as you walk, don't leave anyone behind! Watch your step!"

Zhang Qingshan tried his best to calm himself down and shouted through a megaphone in the base.

"Some people don't care about heavy things; their lives are more important, so they'd rather climb higher!"

Zhang Qingshan turned his head and saw someone carrying heavy objects like large iron pots on their backs. He cursed them with exasperation.

"Oh God, this was left to me by my father, I can't lose it."

A man hugged a stone mortar and cried.

"Are you out of your mind?! Is it more important than your life?!"

Zhang Qingming shouted in exasperation.

The man continued to carry it upstairs without a care in the world, but he did so very slowly.

Seeing that the man was so stubborn, Zhang Qingming had no choice but to turn to Zhang Qingshan and say something.

"Brother, there's nothing we can do since he won't listen. Let's hurry up and leave. Dad is waiting for us. If we wait any longer, we won't be able to leave."

Zhang Qingshan looked at the people in the base and hesitated for a moment.

"Brother, what good will it do if you stay? Will you stop the tsunami?!"

Seeing his brother's state, Zhang Qingming hurriedly said something. In the end, Zhang Qingshan left. He really didn't have the ability. He was just thinking about what would happen to so many people at the base.

People were still scrambling to climb up when the tsunami was already upon them, and seawater instantly flooded the base, crashing against the buildings.

The man who was carrying the mortar accidentally dropped it. He was carrying something and was moving slowly, so he was at the back. When he saw the fallen mortar, he immediately tried to rush over to pick it up, but he was swept away by the waves in the next second.

Some people looked back and saw that the spot where they had just been standing was now submerged by seawater, and a chill ran down their spines.

"Ah! Help! Save my son!"

An elderly woman watched helplessly as the first wave of water swept away the man behind her.

Luckily, I managed to grab the stairs in time and avoid being pulled in.

When a woman heard the cries for help, she looked down and saw that the bottom of the stairs was already flooded, with the seawater rising to within a dozen meters of her.

There are still many people downstairs who haven't come up yet; they've probably all drowned by now.

The woman's name was Su Yiling. Although her legs were weak, she saw people behind her who needed help and pulled them up. Only after everyone behind her was out of danger did Su Yiling continue climbing.

The sea level kept rising, so everyone had to keep running upwards without stopping.

Fortunately, there was enough room for people inside the building to stand on the roof. Before the hailstorm, most people stayed in their rooms. Even if others ran into the building, some were swept away by the seawater. So there weren't too many people on the roof to stand on.

The people on the roof looked anxiously at the sea below, hoping it wouldn't submerge the roof. Fortunately, the sea level stopped rising when it was two or three stories from the roof. Exhausted, Su Yiling had no strength left.

Su Yiling sat on the ground and looked down. The base, which was still visible before, was now completely submerged by the sea, with only a pale blue expanse of water.

Some corpses, mostly people, but also some livestock, were still floating on the sea. Su Yiling frowned and suppressed her nausea as she looked away. The rooftop was deathly still, and every now and then she could hear people sobbing softly because their children had been swept away.

“Listen to me, everyone. We can’t avoid natural disasters and man-made calamities. Since we’ve all been lucky enough to survive, we should look forward. The dead are gone, and they would want us to live well, wouldn’t they?”

Su Yiling comforted him, her eyes red with tears.

"You make it sound so nice! Of course you don't think it's a big deal since no one in your family has died, but I've lost my son and my husband, how am I supposed to live now!"

A woman nearing forty years old spoke in a hoarse voice as she cried.

"Hey, what does your husband's death have to do with that young girl? Why are you saying such rude things!"

A kind-hearted woman, who was also close to forty, angrily retorted after hearing what was said.

“How can it be nothing! How can it be nothing! If she hadn’t refused to save my son first, my husband wouldn’t have been swept away by the waves while trying to save our child.”

The woman became increasingly aggrieved as she spoke, questioning why Su Yiling didn't save her own family members first.

"Chunhua, you're being unreasonable. People are just trying to help, and you're turning around and accusing them?"

The woman's mother-in-law, who was standing nearby, couldn't stand it anymore and spoke up for Su Yiling.

"Why don't you just die? Those are your grandson and son. You're the one who should die, not them."

Ding Chunhua turned around and cursed viciously at her mother-in-law beside her.

"Enough! If I were all-powerful, there wouldn't be so many corpses floating down there. But I'm a human being too. You blame me for not saving your husband and child first. Ask yourself honestly, was I obligated to save you?"

Su Yiling trembled with anger and choked out her words.
