Chapter 140 Red Stone

The next morning, Gu Jin and Shi Yuan set off to find out information from Captain Chen, but they didn't return until noon, and both of them looked rather unwell.

"What's wrong? You two don't look too well?"

Jiang Li stepped forward and asked.

"Captain Chen said they didn't know either, but the feeling I got from them and the captain was that it wasn't that simple."

Shi Yuan said, sitting on a stool to the side.

"Captain Chen and the others are probably hiding something. What they're hiding might be the factor that attracts the mutant dogs. We need to find out what's going on."

Gu Jin spoke seriously.

"If Captain Chen and the others won't talk about it, how are we supposed to find out?"

Jiang Li raised his question: Since Captain Chen and the others were unwilling to say, it meant they were very special and must be well protected. How did they manage to get in touch with them?

"The captain and I just discussed it, and we've decided to explore the base these next few nights. What do you guys think?"

Shi Yuan explained the results of the discussion between the two to everyone.

"I agree."

Fang Qingxun was the first to vote.

"good."

Jiang Li agreed. She also wanted to know what could attract the mutated dog. Why didn't it exist in her previous life, or perhaps it did exist but she just didn't discover it?

The others agreed with the suggestion, so they stayed in the base for the rest of the time. They rested during the day and explored different parts of the base in shifts at night.

After several people's efforts, they finally discovered the clues a few days later on the night of the last night.

An irregular red stone was found in an experimental building. The stone was well protected, with a defense system and many people patrolling around it. Even when the group was lying on the ventilation shaft, they could only peek down at it.

The stone was so well protected that the group guessed it was what attracted the mutated dog. However, after looking at it for a long time, they couldn't see any difference between it and an ordinary stone except for its red color.

"What do you think would happen if I put it into my spatial storage?"

When Jiang Li saw the stone, this idea suddenly came to him.

"I disagree. We don't even know what this thing is like yet. It would be inappropriate to take it in rashly."

Gu Jin immediately spoke up to stop Jiang Li's idea.

Jiang Li thought about it for a moment, and realized that there must be a reason why it could attract mutated dogs even when placed here. She couldn't just put it into her space rashly, but she was just saying it casually.

Just as the two were talking, Captain Chen opened the door and came in. The group immediately shut up and lay motionless inside the ventilation duct.

Captain Chen, who had just entered the room, directed the others to move the stone to the adjacent laboratory. After Captain Chen and the others left, the group slowly began to move it.

They moved to the ventilation opening on the ceiling of the laboratory, where Captain Chen and several researchers were standing.

"So, have you figured anything out?"

Captain Chen asked one of the researchers.

"We discovered a new element on it, which does not exist on Earth for the time being."

Furthermore, the stone emits radiation, but so far this radiation has not been found to cause any problems for the human body; no other radiation has been found so far.

The speaker was a man, who looked to be in his fifties or sixties.

"Can we be certain that the mutated dogs attacked the base because of it?"

The man shook his head, then said.

"I'm sorry, we can't be sure about that yet; we still need to conduct experiments."

"Then you need to speed things up; the higher-ups are constantly urging you."

Captain Chen frowned and said, and the man simply nodded before immersing himself in his research. Captain Chen then closed the door and left.

Jiang Li and his group waited for a while, and only after confirming that Captain Wang and the others had left did they slowly begin to retreat.

In the small courtyard.

Gu Jin: "It seems that this rock is what attracted the mutated dog here."

Fu Xiaxia: "I wonder where this stone came from?"

Fang Qingxun: "Could it be a meteorite or something? But I've never seen a meteorite fall before."

Jiang Li: "Putting aside the origin of this stone, I have a feeling that this stone might attract other animals."

Shi Yuan: "I also think that's possible. If it really attracts other wild animals, I think we can't stay in this base any longer."

Shi Lin: "I just don't know if other bases have this stone."

Jiang Li: "Whether there are other bases or not, we can't live here anymore."

The others agreed, saying that with this rock around, the base would be attacked from time to time, causing constant trouble, and it was no longer suitable for them to live there.

Gu Jin: "Okay, let's discuss when to leave."

Shi Lin: "How was your day?"

Jiang Li: "I think it's a good idea. Anyway, it's still early, and we've all had a rest during the day. What about you guys?"

"Can."

The others agreed, so the group packed their things, drove out of the base, and their concerns were not unfounded.

Not long after they left the base, they heard commotion as they passed through a village. More than a week had passed since the previous mutated dogs left, and new beasts had returned.

“Dumb—! Dumb—! Dumb—!…”

In the quiet of the night, a hoarse cry could be heard.

"Wait a minute, I think I heard something."

Jiang Li told Gu Jin to stop the car, then rolled down the window and listened to the commotion outside. Everyone else listened quietly as well.
