Chapter 71 Ambush

The night passed peacefully, and the convoy set off on time at eight o'clock the next morning. The convoy had already used loudspeakers to announce in the city yesterday that any survivors could come here, but no one showed up by morning.

Either there's no one in the city, or they're unwilling to go to the base; in such cases, the convoy won't wait any longer.

The convoy continued south and arrived in another city around noon. The two cities were relatively close to each other.

Wang Shuo used the walkie-talkie to explain to everyone that they would rest here for the time being and continue their journey after lunch. He also instructed someone to take a car to broadcast a message to search for survivors.

As soon as the car stopped, more than a dozen people suddenly rushed out, and everyone immediately became alert.

"Are you here to rescue us?"

The people who came were all dressed in very worn-out clothes, and their bodies and heads were very dirty. The leader went up to ask them questions.

Wang Shuo saw that they must be survivors and told everyone to put down their weapons.

“We are from Base One, and we’ve come here to search for survivors. Have you been living here all this time? If you’d like, you can come back to base with us.”

"Really? That's great! We've been living here all this time. We're the only few of us around here. But could you give us something to eat first? We haven't eaten in a long time."

The man said excitedly to Wang Shuo.

"Okay, wait a moment."

Wang Shuo had someone bring some food down from the car. Some of the food in the car was reserved for the survivors. Their main task this time was to find survivors, so they didn't have time to find food on the road and prepared it in the car in advance.

Wang Shuo took the food and wanted to hand it to those people.

"Wang Shuo, watch out!"

Suddenly, Jiang Li shouted at Wang Shuo. Upon hearing Jiang Li's voice, Wang Shuo realized something was wrong and immediately backed away, but his hand was still cut by the knife the man had used earlier.

Fortunately, Jiang Li's reminder was timely, and the wound only cut the arm without injuring any vital organs, and the injury to the arm was not serious.

When Jiang Li realized something was wrong, she rushed to Wang Shuo's side.

When Jiang Li took action, Gu Jin immediately followed him to Wang Shuo's side to protect him.

At this point, the people in the convoy realized what was happening and pulled out their pistols to fight back.

Seeing that their initial assassination attempt had failed, the attacker took cover in the surrounding area and pulled out a pistol to retaliate.

If they hadn't been afraid of being discovered because they were carrying guns, they wouldn't have switched to knives. If they had used guns, Wang Shuo would probably be dead by now.

Gu Jin and Jiang Li pulled the injured Wang Shuo and hid behind the car. Gu Jin provided cover for Jiang Li and the others, while Fu Xiaxia and the others also arrived to fight the enemy together.

Jiang Li quickly took out a first-aid kit from her backpack and disinfected, stopped the bleeding, and bandaged Wang Shuo. Jiang Li had prepared this first-aid kit in advance in case such an accident occurred.

Fortunately, it's not extremely cold now; otherwise, this wound would probably have been frostbitten.

After bandaging up, Wang Shuo didn't rest. He fought alongside Jiang Li and the others. Wang Shuo's trusted confidants also came to his side at this time.

They weren't as quick as Jiang Li and his group at first, and they also had to dodge bullets, so they only arrived now. They surrounded Wang Shuo to protect him.

Seeing that someone was protecting Wang Shuo, Jiang Li and Gu Jin stepped aside, but they didn't go far, as no one knew if any of these people intended to harm Wang Shuo.

The people on the other side were clearly more familiar with the place than they were, and they had been lying in ambush in advance. Jiang Li's side was at a disadvantage, especially since they had to keep an eye on Wang Shuo's situation at all times.

However, the convoy had a large number of people, and with the fighting power of Fu Xiaxia and the others, they quickly dealt with the enemy, and Wang Shuo's side remained safe afterward.

Jiang Li and his group did not expect the other party to be so impatient, taking action the very next day, and with so many people around.

However, the other party probably also wanted to take them by surprise. Everyone thought the person who made the move would be inside the convoy, so they kept guarding against the people inside the convoy.

But unexpectedly, they turned out to be posing as survivors, catching Jiang Li and his group completely off guard.

After dealing with the enemy, everyone was finally able to stop and rest. Wang Shuo instructed the people in the car to find a place to bury the other bodies; they couldn't just leave them exposed there.

Although the enemy was defeated, the convoy also suffered heavy casualties, with many dead. Two of the other three mission teams, unarmed, took cover to avoid friendly fire.

However, one of the teams, Team Three, although they didn't have guns, didn't sit idle in that situation; instead, they helped take care of the wounded.

Wang Shuo thanked them before walking over to Jiang Li.

"Thank you for saving me. If you hadn't spoken up just now, I would definitely be dead by now."

Then he turned to Gu Jin and the others and said.

"Thank you for your help. Without you, we definitely wouldn't have been able to defeat them so quickly. Thank you for saving us."

After speaking, he bowed deeply to Jiang Li and the others.

"No need to thank us. Since we promised Captain Wang, we will definitely take responsibility for you."

Gu Jin stopped Wang Shuo from bowing, but Wang Shuo still insisted on bowing. He understood that although they had promised his uncle, they had already saved him and could refrain from further intervention. Not only him, but many others in the convoy had also been saved by them.

Moreover, even if they had noticed the situation but hadn't spoken up, no one would have thought there was a problem, and it wouldn't have been considered their fault.

They are truly responsible and are taking his protection very seriously. He should be grateful and also realize that his uncle was right to have chosen him.
