Chapter Eighty-Six: Bats

People are slowly getting used to living in the dark, but their schedules are still somewhat chaotic. Sometimes they eat one or two meals a day, and sometimes they eat five or six meals a day.

Anyway, it's nighttime as soon as you open your eyes, and you eat when you're hungry. People's initial fear has subsided, and with one natural disaster after another, people seem to be able to accept things more and more quickly.

Although I still feel panicked every time I encounter a new disaster, I am forced to accept and grow from it.

A few days later, Captain Wang sent another message, saying that the animals in the mountains seemed to be a bit restless recently, and the base suspected that there might be a beast tide, so he told them to be prepared.

Although it's still dark, Jiang Li and the others will still follow their normal schedule.

One night, just a few days after Captain Wang and the others sent the message.

Jiang Li and Gu Jin were sleeping when Gu Jin suddenly opened her tightly closed eyes, her dark eyes shining like stars in the night sky.

"There's movement."

Jiang Li also opened her eyes warily.

What was that sound?

"It might be related to the beast tide that Captain Wang mentioned to us before. Some animals must have run from the back mountain to the base. The night is inherently dangerous."

Gu Jin and Jiang Li quickly dressed and got out of bed. They closed their eyes, felt around for a moment, and then spoke at the same time.

"In the sky."

"up in the air."

Both of them heard the sound of wings flapping outside.

When Jiang Li and Gu Jin got up, they didn't turn on the lights. Jiang Li pulled back a corner of the curtain and saw pairs of green eyes outside. By the light from the street lamp, she could clearly see the owner of the eyes—a group of bats.

From a distance, it looked like a black mist. This black mist flapped its wings and pressed down like dark clouds. Its shape was sharp and fanged, and its size was more than twice as big as before.

"It's a swarm of bats."

Jiang Li's expression changed. Luckily, they hadn't turned on the lights. After figuring out what it was, the two of them went to other rooms and knocked on the doors of the other people to wake them up.

The others woke up when they heard the noise, but fortunately they were all very safety-conscious and did not turn on the lights.

At this moment, Jiang Li began to hear screams. The day and night were reversed, and now no matter what time it was, there were always people with lights on in the base.

The lights attracted the bats' attention, turning them into easy targets. But the louder the noise, the more people turned on the lights, and the more chaotic the base became.

Jiang Li had been mentally prepared for this because of his "heart" condition, and he had thought that animals might mutate prematurely, but he did not expect it to happen so early this time.

These bats are mutated bats. Jiang Li had encountered them in her previous life, but she was powerless to fight back then and hid in the house until the base was defeated, thus escaping a calamity.

All she knew was that they roamed in packs and sucked blood; she had no idea how the base treated them.

Instead of returning to their room, the group went downstairs to the living room to prepare in case bats flew in.

It seemed like the neighbor had turned on their lights, and Jiang Li and the others heard continuous screams outside. Then the noise seemed to be coming towards them.

"Oh no, the people next door are running this way."

Before Shi Yuan could finish speaking, there was a knock on the door.

"Open the door quickly and save us! I know you're inside. The bats haven't attacked you. Do you have any way to deal with them?"

"Yes, please save us."

"ah!"

"Open the door quickly!"

"How can you be so heartless? We're neighbors, after all."

The family next door consists of three people: two elderly people and a middle-aged man. I don't know where their other family members are.

Several people shouted outside the gate of Gu Jin's courtyard, attracting more and more bats.

Jiang Li and the others remained unmoved inside. Who would rescue them at this point? They even tried to morally blackmail others.

The bats seemed to have noticed that there were people inside the house, and began to keep banging on the door to the living room where Jiang Li and the others were.

"idiot."

Even Shi Lin was stunned by the stupidity of these people's actions. If they had stayed in the house properly, they might not have attracted so many bats and might have survived. But now, they were destined to die.

Sure enough, the sound of several people outside soon disappeared, but the smell of blood had attracted many bats, which seemed tireless in their attempts to ram against the villa door.

The living room door wasn't as sturdy as the outside one, and the bats were mutated, their bodies seemingly much stronger; the door appeared to be shaking slightly.

"If we keep ramming it like this, the door will be breached soon. Once it's broken open, we'll really have nowhere to hide. We need to think of something."

Gu Jin can't hold out for much longer.

“Let’s go outside the base. The bats must have come from the mountains. There are people all over here, so we’re all sitting ducks. It should be better outside the base, but that’s just a guess.”

Jiang Li thought of a solution, but it was just a guess; perhaps there were even more bats outside.

"Then let's go outside. The door is about to be broken down. We have to get out before they come in, or this house will be ruined."

Gu Jin agreed with Jiang Li's opinion; this was the only option now.

Others also agreed to the plan.

Everyone put on bulletproof vests, which were from the small warehouse that Gu Jin and the others had previously stored. They also put on helmets, the kind of motorcycle helmets that Jiang Li had collected when he was at the car dealership; he had many of them in his storage space.
