Chapter Fifteen Warehouse

Jiang Li and Gu Jin drove out of the basement one after the other, planning to go to a large shopping mall a little further away. It would take about an hour to drive there, and the area around here should have been almost completely ransacked.

Jiang Li drove his own car, which Gu Jin had seen before and hadn't driven since. He was worried that suddenly changing to another car would attract attention. Fortunately, the trunk space of his previous sedan was quite large. Gu Jin was driving a black SUV, which Jiang Li had never seen before and was probably modified.

As I drove along, there were sometimes a few corpses by the roadside. Some of them had already decomposed because of the heat, and there were maggots wriggling on them, which was really disgusting to look at.

Cars were frequently parked in the middle of the road or other odds and ends blocked the way, so the journey, which normally takes an hour, took an hour and a half to complete. After parking the car, the two entered the mall through a side entrance.

Jiang Li had been to this mall before. It has five floors in total, plus two underground. The bottom floor is a parking lot. There's a food court and a fairly large supermarket on the basement level. The first floor sells cosmetics and jewelry, the second floor sells clothing, shoes, bags, and the like, and the third floor has children's items like clothes, shoes, and toys. The fourth floor has a large variety of restaurants, and the fifth floor is a movie theater. Of course, each floor has some restaurants, but not as many as the fourth floor and the basement.

Jiang Li and Gu Jin discussed the mall's layout, and they both decided to first check out the basement level before slowly making their way up.

There are many restaurants downstairs, but some of the food has rotted and smells bad, probably because of the hot weather. The two decided to split up and look for something usable. The mall has a backup power supply, which may have automatically switched to the backup power after the power outage. Some of the food in the refrigerator is still okay, but most of the food left outside has rotted and spoiled, probably because the power outage was recent.

Jiang Li found a lot of unopened canned milk tea and ingredients in a milk tea shop. After checking the dates and confirming they were all fresh and not spoiled, he put them all into his spatial storage, leaving one or two in his backpack. He could make milk tea himself from now on! Then, in the warehouse of a sushi shop, he found a bag of unopened rice, hidden by other things. If Jiang Li hadn't been so observant, he probably wouldn't have noticed it. There were also seasonings, which might have been left behind by someone else during a looting trip, or perhaps someone had deliberately hidden them there.

I found some useful items in other stores, but not many; they were probably all taken.

Upon arriving at the supermarket, Jiang Li found many items gone and the floor in disarray. Undeterred, she searched for the warehouse to see if it had been discovered. After circling around several times, she found a passageway behind a door. The passageway was dark due to the lack of electricity, but small windows provided a clear view. It appeared to be frequently used, as several delivery carts were nearby. Following the passageway further in, she reached a large, locked door – this must be the supermarket's warehouse.

Jiang Li was a little excited. Looking at the locked door, he knew that the warehouse hadn't been discovered yet. He unlocked it and found it was indeed a warehouse, about 200 square meters in size. The goods were all packed in cardboard boxes, and he didn't know what was inside. He put everything in the warehouse, including the shelves, into his spatial storage. By the time he finished, a long time had passed. He went back outside the supermarket and took some leftover daily necessities from the shelves into his backpack. He didn't look at the rest. He decided to leave them to someone else. Having taken over a warehouse, Jiang Li was in a pretty good mood.

Jiang Li didn't see Gu Jin when she returned to the first floor, guessing that he had gone somewhere else. She didn't rush to the second floor. There were many high-end skincare products on the first floor. In the post-apocalyptic world, most people didn't care about skincare products. When they went out to find supplies, they mainly focused on food. Who would carry skincare products? So the skincare products were basically intact. But Jiang Li had a space, so of course she wasn't worried. Later, she found a store selling electronic products and put the mobile phones, tablets, computers, etc. into her space.

As he walked, he packed his things, putting the hard-to-carry items into his spatial storage, and putting the things he usually needed into his backpack or tote bag. There were also a few gold shops and jewelry stores along the way, which Jiang Li also packed into his spatial storage. As the saying goes, antiques are popular in prosperous times, and gold is popular in chaotic times. Gold is still very popular in the apocalypse.
