The car was a mess. With so many people in one car, things were scattered everywhere, and it was a complete mess.
The back seats of the car had been removed, and some boxes were piled up, some of which had already been opened. There were instant noodles, sausages, mineral water, compressed biscuits, bread, rice, noodles, and even a few bottles of liquor. It seemed they had robbed quite a few passersby.
There were also some miscellaneous household items.
Jiang Li stored all these items into his spatial storage. As for the items that had already been dismantled, Jiang Li and his companions had plenty of food, so they could simply exchange them for points at the base later.
Jiang Li figured this must be their temporary stop; they must have another place to stay. It was too cold to stay in an abandoned bus.
There must have been plenty of food there, but unfortunately the people were already dead, and their base could no longer be found. However, Jiang Li did not regret killing them.
If you don't cut the weeds at the root, they'll grow back in the spring. We can't leave any trouble behind. Trouble is nothing compared to resources, since they have plenty of resources anyway.
The group returned to the car and threw the bodies into the woods.
Since we've already stopped, and the base is just ahead, we might as well pack up our stuff here.
The wild boars and wolves were secured to the roof of the vehicles with ropes. One wild boar was placed in each vehicle, and the rest were used to house the wolves.
If there wasn't enough space, they made a simple iron frame using iron bars and wires, placed the wolf on it and secured it, and then fixed the frame to the car so that they could be dragged forward together when driving.
The supplies found on the bus were piled up in the trunk or on the back seat.
Fortunately, the roofs of the vehicles were large enough and had strong load-bearing capacity.
Once the animals were strapped on, the speed slowed down considerably. The three vehicles, carrying a full load of animals, slowly drove back to the base.
Back at the base, they received shocked looks from everyone along the way. Three cars, all full of wolves, and most of them were wolves. How could such a convoy not attract attention?
The group drove directly to the service hall. Gu Jin got out of the car and went into the service hall to find the staff, while Jiang Li waited in the car. They happened to run into Captain Wang when they went in.
Gu Jin simply told Captain Wang that she had supplies she wanted to exchange, but the rest of them might not be able to move them in.
Upon hearing this, Captain Wang gathered a few staff members and went with Gu Jin to the car.
Upon exiting the service center, Captain Wang and several staff members gasped in shock when they saw the truck full of wild boars and wolves.
Gu Jin said there was a lot of stuff, and Captain Wang was already prepared, but he didn't expect it to be this much.
"Did you guys go and raid a wolf's den?!"
Captain Wang couldn't believe it. Who would bring back so many wolves for no reason? Most people would probably have perished if they encountered that many wolves.
Captain Wang realized what was happening and called a few more people to help unload the goods.
He wanted to win over Gu Jin and the others even more, but he knew they wouldn't join the base. If they wanted to join, they would have joined when they were invited before, and they wouldn't have waited until now. So Captain Wang could only think about it in his heart and didn't say it out loud.
Captain Wang's men quickly unloaded the wild boars and wolves from the vehicle, and also unloaded the supplies to be exchanged.
Wolves are still quite valuable; their meat is edible, though it may not taste very good. But in the apocalypse, it's good enough to fill your stomach, and nobody cares about the taste.
Wolf fur has many uses, especially in winter, where it can be used to make clothes, hats, and so on.
Jiang Li didn't know exactly how many points he could exchange for. After giving the base card to Gu Jin, he didn't care anymore. It was better for him to have less contact with the people at the base.
Jiang Li had given Gu Jin a small bag of the red berries they had found earlier, which he had originally intended to give to Captain Wang. Since they had come across them here, it saved him the trouble of making another trip.
Gu Jin took the bag containing the fruit, handed it to Captain Wang, explained the situation to him, and told him the exact location. After that, it was no longer their concern.
Captain Wang excitedly took the bag full of red berries, opened it to see that it was indeed a variety he had never seen before, and said he would send it to the research lab. If it turned out to be edible, the base would give them a reward.
As she turned around, she caught a glimpse of Jiang Li sitting in the car. After exchanging a greeting from afar, she hurriedly headed to the lab. If these things were really edible, it would solve a huge problem.
After exchanging their points, the group drove home, agreeing to go to the villa the next day to process the wild boar meat.
Jiang Li returned downstairs and had just parked his car when he saw He Shan coming out with her son.
"Sister He Shan, are you going out?"
"Xiao Jiang, I found a job washing dishes in the cafeteria kitchen, and I was just planning to take An An there."
"Really? That's great." Jiang Li likes people who can support themselves.
"Yes, it's the same few people every day there, so there's less trouble. The main thing is that An'an can stay there too, and I feel more at ease watching over him."
"Is it okay for An'an to stay there indefinitely?"
“An’an is very well-behaved. We only go to the cafeteria after meals when we need to wash dishes. The rest of the time is our own. I’ll bring him back when I’m done.”
"That's great, An'an is such a good girl."
Jiang Li really likes An An. She's so young and has gone through all this, yet she's still so well-behaved. How can it not break one's heart?
Jiang Li took a lollipop out of his bag and gave it to An An.
"Thank you, Sister Jiang." An'an obediently accepted the gift; he already recognized this beautiful older sister.
"Xiao Jiang, you don't need to give it to him. Keep it for yourself." Food is so precious these days, yet Xiao Jiang always gives An An candy.
