As the car drove down, Jiang Li and his group got a clear look at the underground city: rows of buildings, very close together, and much smaller spaces. There were many lights on the roads, but no flowers, trees, or anything else; every available space had been utilized.
The houses were also unremarkable, consisting of small buildings and villas, all of which were unfinished and had not even been painted white. The overall appearance was gray and gloomy, giving people a very depressing feeling.
Some houses were clearly built with more refined details from the beginning, becoming rougher and rougher as they went on. It's not that the quality was bad, but the walls that Jiang Li and his group passed through at the beginning were at least very smooth, while the walls that came later were noticeably rougher.
Fortunately, the place Jiang Li and his group chose, while not the best, was still pretty good. The rooms inside were much smaller than the ones above, but the layout was the same.
Although the villas in the underground city have yards, they are only about the size of one room. Cars are not allowed to drive in, probably because there is no place to park. Only a few electric scooters can be parked in the yard.
"I don't like it here."
Fu Xiaxia wasn't a sentimental person. Even though they were in the apocalypse, the sight of the entire dungeon looking so gloomy made her feel bad.
"Let's stay for a while and see."
Gu Jin led the group into the villa; that was all they could do now.
Jiang Li and the others tidied up the room briefly, and Jiang Li put their beds in order before returning to his own room.
The others at the base moved in a hurry, and since they couldn't drive their vehicles, they had to sleep on the floor; they didn't even have beds.
People have been moving in continuously these past few days, making the dungeon quite lively. Once the crowds have mostly arrived, the base will issue a notice that, in order to conserve energy, the dungeon will have its power cut off every night at 9 PM.
Jiang Li and the others haven't left the house since they moved in. Everyone's attention is focused on the underground city, so they won't notice whether they've gone out or not.
"They moved in so fast, they probably didn't stop at all along the way."
Jiang Li and Gu Jin sat at the table in the living room and talked.
"Yes, especially since yesterday, the speed has increased even more."
Gu Jin spoke up.
“Yesterday I saw several staff members guiding people by the second-floor window. They would take people there and then quickly go back without stopping.”
Shi Yuan told the others what he had seen yesterday.
"Then it seems to be in the next day or two. By the way, where are Fang Qingxun and Fu Xiaxia? I haven't seen them."
Jiang Li asked aloud.
"They both went out."
Lin was speaking.
As expected, those two can't stay idle.
The incident occurred on the very night they finished their conversation. That night, Captain Wang at the entrance of the underground city suddenly told everyone to speed up, but it was too late. The underground city suddenly felt a violent earthquake, as if it had returned to the time of the previous earthquake.
Jiang Li and the others went out to check. Judging from the sounds, they didn't know what had happened upstairs. All the residents of the underground city had run out of their houses in terror.
Jiang Li and his group rushed towards the entrance. On the way, they could hear screams coming from there. They quickened their pace and soon saw a large group of people running in panic at the entrance, followed by some injured people. Everyone had a look of fear on their face.
When they arrived, the entrance was already closed, and they couldn't see what was happening outside.
Gu Jin caught someone running down the slope.
What happened up there?
"Up... there are so many wild beasts up there, it's terrifying."
After saying that, the man shook off Gu Jin's hand and immediately ran to the back.
Gu Jin returned to the group of people.
"It is indeed a beast tide."
"This looks like it's on a pretty big scale."
Shi Lin listened to the commotion above without stopping.
"Look, isn't that Captain Wang?"
Fu Xiaxia looked up and saw Captain Wang at the very back of the group. He must be in charge of covering the rear.
"It's Captain Wang."
Jiang Li also saw Captain Wang standing at the back of the group. Jiang Li admired Captain Wang very much. He always stood in front of the team whenever something happened, working hard without complaint. Jiang Li thought he could never do such a thing.
"It seems like every time I see Captain Wang leading the way, the other leaders of the base never show up."
Fang Qingxun also remarked with emotion.
"Indeed, he seems to be working quite hard. I wouldn't want to do such a thankless job. No one remembers the good things, but they come knocking on your door as soon as there's a problem. I don't know what Captain Wang is up to."
Fu Xiaxia also felt that Captain Wang's actions were simply thankless and exhausting, but that didn't stop her from admiring him.
Captain Wang was also used as a shield by the base. He was the one who appeared most often, and everyone in the base would turn to him whenever they had a problem. All the benefits went to the people behind him. Since Captain Wang was right under everyone's noses, if he were to get any benefits, he would probably be accused of abusing his power for personal gain.
A short while later, Captain Wang came down with the others, and no one followed them; they must have closed the entrance.
Jiang Li and the others also noticed that Captain Wang had sustained many injuries. When Captain Wang and his group reached Gu Jin and the others, they stopped. Captain Wang told the others to go first, while he stayed behind to talk to them.
"You're all here."
"Well, what's going on now?"
Gu Jin asked.
"The beast tide I mentioned to you before is even more severe than the base predicted. Fortunately, you and Shi Lin upgraded beforehand and managed to hold it off for a while, otherwise, I'm afraid even more people would have died."
