Chapter Seven: The Apocalypse

Jiang Li got up as usual that day. Even with the air conditioner on, it was noticeably hotter than usual. He took out his phone and checked the outside temperature, which was already 57 degrees Celsius. He remembered that in his previous life, the temperature was only in the early part of September, which was only around 50 degrees Celsius. How come it was already so hot at the end of July? It was a month earlier than in his previous life.

Realizing something was wrong, Jiang Li immediately turned up the air conditioner and looked at the road. Sure enough, he saw someone suffering from heatstroke and collapsing on the road, attracting people's attention. Some even had their shoes stuck to the road. Seeing that someone had heatstroke, someone called 120, and soon the sound of an ambulance blared.

In this situation, it's impossible to go out during the day; online...

The topic of high temperatures has become a trending topic. Schools have announced the suspension of classes, and some companies have chosen to work from home. Some company bosses are not letting people go out to work, so people are forced to continue working despite the hardship.

The government has issued a notice regarding the high temperatures, advising outdoor workers to adjust their working hours, stock up on food at home, and minimize going out during the day.

During the day, there are hardly any people on the streets; everyone is sleeping at home. Occasionally, a few cars drive by, but people are still used to sleeping at night, and only take a nap occasionally during the day. Jiang Li still maintains his habit of getting up and exercising in the morning. In the evening, everyone is off work and at home, and schools are on holiday. The square becomes lively again because it's not so hot at night, so everyone comes out for a stroll.

Water and electricity are still available, but prices have already started to rise. It's too hot for people to go out, so they buy more food to keep at home and reduce the number of times they go out.

Jiang Li also went to the supermarket that evening, just like everyone else. The supplies in the space over the past six months were enough for Jiang Li to use for decades. However, others didn't know this. In order to avoid unnecessary trouble, he still had to go out to buy supplies symbolically. He couldn't stay at home all the time. If he stayed there for too long, people would definitely find out that there was something fishy going on at his house.

The supermarket was crowded. Some people, like myself, came to buy food, while others came to enjoy the air conditioning. Prices for many items had already gone up, but the government was controlling prices, so the increases weren't significant.

Most people came to buy water, rice, noodles, and other grains. The grain section was packed with people, and there weren't many instant noodles left. Jiang Li took some as a token, and then went to the snack section to buy some snacks he liked. Because most people were stocking up on food, there weren't many people visiting the snack section, except for a few young people.

Several elderly people saw that I had only taken a little bit, and the rest was snacks, and they came over to persuade me to stop.

"Little girl, snacks won't fill you up. You should buy more rice to take home."

"It's alright, Auntie. I live alone, and this will last me a long time." She politely declined the old lady's offer and took the food to queue up to pay.

Several older women nearby shook their heads when they saw that the young girl wouldn't listen to advice. Sigh, many young people these days don't listen to reason.

There was a long queue at the cashier, and it took Jiang Li half an hour to get to the counter. After finally paying, he could drive home.

I parked my car in the basement and ran into the man I'd met in the elevator before. He was carrying something, probably just back from shopping. We nodded to each other and went into the elevator without saying a word.

Opening the door finally brought a refreshing coolness. I hadn't turned off the air conditioner when I left. After putting my things down, I immediately went to the bathroom to take a shower.

After taking a shower, Jiang Li first stored the ice cubes made in the ice maker into her spatial storage. Then, she took out a watermelon that she had chilled in advance from the refrigerator and sat on the sofa to watch TV. The watermelon was icy cold, and every bite was full of juice. It was so refreshing and thirst-quenching. Jiang Li really loved eating watermelon in the summer.
